What about Chris Carter if he is non tendered by the Brewers.

That should help getting those strike outs down.

He's not getting non-tendered. He's already their starting 1B

You know that before he worked on the fan, Dean always bragged about how little of a s*** he gave about sports. Don't expect anything from him in that area.

There isn't much else on the morning drive to work. The TSN Crew is covering hockey and football non stop.

Try some music maybe? just a thought.

Chris Carter honestly feels like another Trumbo

Well he strikeout the same as Smoak but unlike Smoak he actually has some power.

If we have him Smoak and Upton on the same team we can really chase some strikeout records

One idea that has grown on for me for a possible DH replacement is trading for V-Mart. The Tigers are in a sort of retool mode, and are listening on all players. Cabrera would stay healthier if he played exclusively DH, making V-Mart expendable. VMart still hits very well, is a switch hitter, and it (presumably) wouldn't take much to get him. Just an idea.

Is it ever really worth it to pay 30 mil for a pitcher or any player? Well for the blue jays I guess, 20% of payroll. Other than kershaw who else will do what you can't almost as easily get done for 10-15m?

Mike Trout.

Victor Martinez sounds like the kind of DH I think most people here would be up for. He has 2/36 left and not much in the tank left,

For me it would be worth it if they take Smoak back and eat some of that already horrible money.

Only way Liriano nets something of value is at the trade deadline if he's pitched like his 2013-2015 form during the first half of the season and the Blue Jays are out of it.

I think Liriano has some value. The 50 innings he pitched with the Jays were much much better than what he did with the Pirates and helped prove that he's still got something left in the tank. At the time we traded for him we risked trading for a guy that was perhaps pitching to his new talent level rather than going through a bad first half of the season. The 50 innings with the Jays help prove that it was more of the latter. Also, his one year deal isn't bad, the main problem with it being that you'd only get him for one season. But if you take a look at the FA market he'd be one of the top SP's available. We wouldn't get a big return for him but I think we could do better than what the Pirates did.

You could argue that giving Donaldson 4/120 or 5/150 would be a good deal.

Yeah, that would be a steal. I think he gets closer to 8/240.

I'd rather sign Carter at a much cheaper rate over what Trumbo will demand. Brewers likely tender Carter a contract though.

It's not a bad idea. I mean think about it, the big FA class is coming in 2ish years. The FO guys know how to draft and rebuild. Best-case scenario is we get 2 picks right? Well we have lots of aging players on the roster too that can net us stuff. Martin can bring something back and so can Tulo (IF we can trade him, he might have a no trade) since we can probably eat lots of money. It would be like a quick 2 year rebuild. Estrada and Happ can net us a lot, especially since their contracts are looking like bargains. I feel like there's a lot to do, and the biggest asset we have is money during a crappy FA class. I'd rather us not trade our young arms for 30+ year old bats.

If Atkins, Shapiro and Cherrington believe they can draft well in the 2 upcoming years, setting up for that huge FA class.... it wouldn't be that bad of an idea. The biggest issue here is the fanbase of course, good luck telling everyone to wait it out a couple of years. We can still field a WC-competitive team in the meantime though.

You have to realize this isn't MLB the show where you can turn on force trades. I'm interested in hearing who you think we can get for these guys.

if any sort of deal was to materialize to move Tull or Martin I would jump all over it. Clearing that kind of $$$ wold be huge for the future of this team

Atkins Summary

- Bautista and EE will receive qualifying offers. Saunders they are still reviewing, said it's not quite as clear.

- Assistant hitting coach Eric Owens let go, said his skill set was redundant, they are looking for an "all encompassing offense coach" to replace him as a staff member, but not necessarily his position.

- Thinks they have a strong core of players up the middle returning, and that they are focusing on trying to win next year. Thinks they have built a very strong front office and that they have a chance to compete against the best teams.

- Offseason priorities will be filling the holes left by free agents leaving.

- Grilli's option is a not brainer and will be picked up.

- They want to add "more balance, more platoon advantage and potentially more speed"

- They will take advantage of the short negotiating window to re-sign Bautista and EE after the World Series.

- Atkins see's a very good amount of players available that fit the mold of a 1B/OF type.

- Pillar had a thumb injury, Martin knee injury, Donaldson hip injury. Surgery possible for all, but not a guarantee.

- Osuna will remain a reliever.

- Biagini could be stretched out as a SP in spring training if he is open to it.

- Contract extension has been exlored with John Gibbons and talks went well.

- " Looking for back-up catcher who can handle our pitching staff, be a leader, give a productive at-bat"

- Atkins feels that Pompey, A.J. Jimenez, "AAA relievers" could be ready to contribute in 2017.

- They will look to significantly add to the bullpen in the offseason, rule 5 draft, internal options, or free agents. Would be willing to sign a FA reliever to a 3+ year deal if it was right.

- "Bautista could be an effective defensive outfielder for a significant period of time"

- Doesn't think the minor league system has enough trade chips to make big trades.

- Would be open to trading MLB pitching if it brought back MLB ready talent and depth pieces. (like the Hutch trade)

- Unsure right now about innings restrictions for Sanchez next year, and that they will try to do a better job of managing his innings at the beginning of the season rather than the middle to end.

Really happy about four of the things he said:

- hasn't decided on QO for Saunders (hopefully this is a polite way of saying Saunders)

- Osuna is a permanent reliever (I think this is for the best)

- wants a good backup catcher who can have productive ABs (no more Thole, and they probably won't start the season with a Jimenez or McGuire)

- referenced the strong market for OF/1B in free agency (intends to make use of the free agent market)

No red flags at all in that interview. Except saying Bautista is a competent OF. Really hoping he doesn't return.

Happ seems like the Sell high type guy. I don't know what kind of return you can get from him but i am not expecting him back if they can trade for a + OF/1B bat

I do think they will do whatever they can to bring EE back but i can't see Jose coming back unless its a team friendly or the Qualifying offer.

Depends on how he was asked the Bautista question.

If he was straight up asked about Bautista's defensive ability, it would be harder to sidestep

I know he's a Ginger and Spanky hates them!!!

But, I do have a question and this might be out of the box.

Could Justin Turner be had? How much do you see him worth?

Platoon him getting most starts at first base and to give JD breaks at 3rd.

Would he be a person of interest here?

See he only was paid 5 mill last year and is a free agent.
