RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted October 18, 2016 Posted October 18, 2016 Gibbons is the manager of this team as long as the team doesn't collapse
BlueJays Verified Member Posted October 18, 2016 Posted October 18, 2016 Be prepared on seeing him next season. He's going to be this team scapegoat if this team s*** the bed next year
FrozenRopes Verified Member Posted October 18, 2016 Posted October 18, 2016 You might want to skip next years ball season.
GodDonaldson Verified Member Posted October 18, 2016 Author Posted October 18, 2016 Gibbons is the manager of this team as long as the team doesn't collapse So you mean he is going to manage this team until he goes into his coffin?
FireAlexAnthopoulos Verified Member Posted October 18, 2016 Posted October 18, 2016 Gibbons is yet another example of how AA screwed this franchise. Again, even with the talent we have, we are very fortunate to have made the ALCS two years in a row. Thanks to the horrible decisions he made, this core still never had a prayer of going to the World Series.

Oh I see So the good things that happened were not due to AA but all the bad things were Nice cognitive biases

RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted October 18, 2016 Posted October 18, 2016 I believe you have a video of John Gibbons getting naked I am just saying that it's hard to make the league championship let alone make it two years in a row Give some credit
FireAlexAnthopoulos Verified Member Posted October 18, 2016 Posted October 18, 2016 Oh I see So the good things that happened were not due to AA but all the bad things were Nice cognitive biases Nice revisionist history. I've repeatedly given AA credit for the Wells trade, for fleecing Billy Beane on the Donaldson trade, and for bringing in Tulo. But the Napoli trade, the Mets trade, the Marlins trade, the Price trade and the Gibbons hire were all disasters, and his approach to free agency was incoherent. One minute, a hat was literally being passed around the locker room so the players could help pay for Ervin Santana, because any contract above 1 year/$0 was "bad value" to AA. (Somehow, paying in prospects for washed-up old players was "good value," though.) The next minute, AA was blowing $82 million on Russell Martin's choking ass. And let's also not forget about how he let Encarnacion walk to Oakland, only to luckily be able to bring him back. Overall, he did more bad than good for this franchise, and we're still dealing with the consequences.
fatcowxlive Old-Timey Member Posted October 18, 2016 Posted October 18, 2016 I love Gibby but this could be his worst managing decision game ever. It looked promising with a good lineup I guess (btw this game shows you day to day lineups really don't matter that much) but: Leaving Stroman out there cost is the game easily. Guy did his best, for a #4 giving up 4 ER in 5+ against this Indian team but that homer to Kipnis was avoidable (then the walk to Crisp who scores) Also I don't get the idea of keeping the last man (Pompey) on the bench when you need speed vs. Miller down 2 in the 9th. That's managing for innings that are unlikely to occur. Stupid baseball right there Regardless offence should have scored more against Manship and McAllister but damn Francona runs a tight ship. Also credit to Shapiro for building s team that good
BTS Community Moderator Posted October 18, 2016 Posted October 18, 2016 I don't really care either way, but man letting Stro see the top of Cleveland's order for the third time tonight with a rested pen was just awful.

I still think it can get much, much worse than Gibby. Someone like Francona would be amazing though.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted October 18, 2016 Posted October 18, 2016 You can't let Stroman face the lineup for the 3rd time in a must win game.

RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted October 18, 2016 Posted October 18, 2016 This will be the most interesting offseason in Jays history Wouldn't surprise me to just sew Gibbons quit. Two straight ALCS appearances and go out on top. He can probably swing another managers position if he does rather than if he gets fired
Daniel Labude Jays Centre Contributor Posted October 18, 2016 Posted October 18, 2016 Gibby is gone unless we bring everyone back (Bautista and Edwin) which probably won't happen. He is the worst manager in baseball and he should be on his way out.

Slade Old-Timey Member Posted October 18, 2016 Posted October 18, 2016 Shipiro did an interview a couple weeks ago saying he's looking forward to working with Gibby for a long time. Maybe this series changes that but I doubt it, he's certainly not the reason they've scored 3 runs in 27IP.
Zaun of the Dead Verified Member Posted October 18, 2016 Posted October 18, 2016 yeah this is definitely john gibbons' fault have any you watched the last 3 games? I am not a fan of gibby at all but this isn't on him whatsoever.
FireAlexAnthopoulos Verified Member Posted October 18, 2016 Posted October 18, 2016 Shipiro did an interview a couple weeks ago saying he's looking forward to working with Gibby for a long time. We can only hope he was just saying that to be respectful to Gibbons. Otherwise, we just replaced AA with an AA clone.

Maybe this series changes that but I doubt it, he's certainly not the reason they've scored 3 runs in 27IP. We were fighting for the playoffs...he wasn't going to say "unless Gibby learns to manage better he is fired at the end of the season" That would just cause an unneeded distraction to a team that doesn't know what a run is lol
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted October 18, 2016 Posted October 18, 2016 Great point by Zaun, saying Gibby was dumb for complaining to the umps to try and get Bauer out of the game right after he just walked 2 guys.
L54 Old-Timey Member Posted October 18, 2016 Posted October 18, 2016 Can we stop referring to Stroman as a number four? Holy f***. This series is falling squarely on the shoulders of the offense. 3 runs in 3 games is just not good enough at the end of the day.
Stevecool Verified Member Posted October 18, 2016 Posted October 18, 2016 I think a team managed by someone like john Maddon has this team more mentally prepared for this series than did gibbons
FireAlexAnthopoulos Verified Member Posted October 18, 2016 Posted October 18, 2016 List of AL managers that Gibbons is definitely better than: Showalter Bannister Farrell Ausmus Scioscia Molitor Yost Ventura (whacked) I mean, are people watching other teams this year? Some of these guys are unfathomably bad. They do unspeakable things like let Aybar hit 2nd all year or Escobar leadoff. Or they choose Jimenez over Britton. Scioscia is literally what people think Gibbons is. I don't give a f*** what anyone here says, none of you would swap Gibbons for any of those guys. No way. Gibbons is on the same level as them, at best. We can do a lot better than him. Some fans are just scared of making a change because it's a risk.
