ComeTogether Verified Member Posted October 8, 2016 Posted October 8, 2016 As long Sanchez can give them 6-7 innings, they will have enough to win. Biagini, grilli, cecil, osuna. No Travis may be a blessing. Less DP. Carrera gets on base more, gets big hits, faster runner. Barney is just as good defensively.

Governator Community Moderator Posted October 8, 2016 Posted October 8, 2016 Barney an upgrade over Travis lol... that's called a knee jerk reaction.

The difference at the plate between Travis and those other guys trumps any argument you could possibly come up with.
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted October 8, 2016 Posted October 8, 2016 Even if you wanted to take out Travis from the field, he's a much better DH option than Saunders. Not necessarily. He hasn't really swung the bat well that may be related to the injury.
Bobthe4th Old-Timey Member Posted October 8, 2016 Posted October 8, 2016 Not necessarily. He hasn't really swung the bat well that may be related to the injury. Sure if he's injured. But when he's cleared to play there's no way you don't want him in the lineup - so referring to him missing as "a blessing" is going too far.

RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted October 8, 2016 Posted October 8, 2016 It's a pretty big risk not bringing Goins in. We could end up with Martin playing 2nd or EE at 3rd

How soon some forget his last Sunday HR @ Fenway, or his single in the WC game where he was on for Edwin's blast. He has struggled for a couple games, but he is a much superior option to anything else we have. I hope the shot kicks in, and he suprises us all and is in the line up Sunday aft.

We could end up with Martin playing 2nd or EE at 3rd It's a small risk, not a "pretty big" one. ALCS runs from Friday Oct 14th thru Sat Oct 22nd. I'd much rather take my chances and hope to avoid the extraordinarily unlikely Barney fluke injury early in Game 3 than make a shortsighted decision that will render Travis ineligible right through the ALCS. EE's played nearly 700 games at 3B, and Bautista nearly 400. I obv wouldn't feel great about either scenario, but we'd live. If Travis is truly day to day, as we're being told, it would be dumb to make him ineligible for the next 10 games just to have a defensive insurance policy in Goins.

He obviously looks terrible because he's grounded into like 3 DPs in 3 games, but he's still a great hitter and could win easily win us a game with his bat.

It's a small probablity but a big risk if it happens. Not only do we have Martin at 2nd but Navarro at catcher

Hell you could probably even put Stroman in at 2nd base. Played it at college and he always takes groundballs in the infield during batting practice. Might actually be an upgrade at the plate over Goins too lol.
