FOR THE JAYS:

J.A. Happ, LHP

Happ has surrendered three earned runs or fewer in each of his past six starts. He has faced Boston twice this season, and is a perfect 2-0 with a 2.08 ERA over those 13 innings.

FOR THE RED SOX:

Eduardo Rodriguez, LHP

Don’t let his record fool you. Rodriguez has pitched well in the second half of the season, notching a 3.10 ERA in 13 starts since his recall from Pawtucket. In his ninth Fenway Park start of the season, Rodriguez is seeking his first win.

I'm a long time lurker, just registered to post. The jays are done. Doesn't mean I'll stop being a fan, I'm just a realistic fan. You can blame gibbons and the bullpen so much. The main reason this team has failed is the Toronto batters are unable to hit a baseball ATM. That's not gibbons fault, and as putrid as the bullpen has been, still giving up 5 runs or less a game is still good enough for this potential offence to win you some games. The hitters are down right awful. Amazing starting pitchers with a s*** for brains offence, who knew!

I've been a Jays fan through the two decades of down years, but this just feels worse than any of those years. Probably because the expectation was there. I know it's not over yet, but they're playing like it is. Team is flawed.

My first post as well.

This feels like 1987 all over again.

If the Jays and Tigers finish with the same record, is there a 1 game playoff to get into the wild card game or do they use another metric to decide (head to head etc)?

What happens if the Ms tie it up and Baltimore as well?

they will play game 163 to break a tie for the second wildcard, but head to head record is used to decide a tie for the first wildcard

If Everytime manages to win out we will tie for the second wild card with Detroit

Detroit will play game 162 against Cleveland on Monday to tie us

We will play Detroit the tie breaker game on Tuesday

Then play the Wild Card game on Wednesday

Hopefully the Jekyll and Hyde offence shows up today and tomorrow. It makes it a little less frustrating if they at least go down with a fight

The Blue Jays have to at least win 1 of the next 2 to ensure some kind of a wildcard game. Today would be that day with the least intimidating pitcher on the mound ON PAPER for Boston. You don't want to get beat again today for the 4th game in a row and have it be against a sub .500 pitcher, and then have to get up for the game tomorrow knowing it's David Price in basically a win or go home scenario.

Last night was horrible

After this year I seriously want to look into my Jays addiction. Wtf why suffer I am sick of it. If anyone knows any good books on the topic please let me know

The offense can't get any worse. We can't even play the small ball/manufacture-a-run game because our guys are so brutal with cashing runners in with runners on 3rd and less than 2 outs. All we can do is pray for a 3 run home run and hope that our starter can go into the 8th.

Is that a realistic option for the Dogg?

I've learned over time to not get too emotionally invested in things you can't control like sports outcomes or the weather. Having a balanced life puts things in perspective like a spouse, children, full-time job, errands, and social life with friends and family. With many other things investing your time throughout your day, the pitch by pitch results of a bunch of overpaid athletes becomes of little importance.

Unless you're getting paid by the team to sit there and sweat through every game, every scenario, and analyze every stat about every player, it's nonsense to get that emotionally attached to something that's going to happen whether you're sitting there staring at every pitch or if you missed the game entirely because you were doing something else that day.

It seems like people that are considered "casual" fans are criticized for not having every sabermetric stat memorized, and don't have their life completely revolve around a professional sports organization that is going to conduct itself the way it wants to whether you're investing your precious time following them or not.

"Casual" fans are people that have their priorities in life in order. They go to work, raise their family, and do other necessary grown-up things, and if they happen to have any free time, will enjoy a 3 hour ballgame as you would a movie on television for pure entertainment.

People that consider themselves die-hard fans shouldn't be patting themselves on the back. Being a casual sports fan is normal behaviour where your focus and energy are on things that you can control like your job and your family and things that should be more important to you.

I'm definitely a casual fan, and I don't consider that an insult, I consider that a part of growing up and putting your priorities in order. Life will go on if your sports team loses, just like you learn at a young age that a breakup with someone is not the end of the world.

The older you get.. the better you get with coping with the horrible results of this organization. I used to have massive bi-polar blow ups on the old board on a daily basis and now I just don't have the time/energy to care as much. Toronto sports teams are supposed to rip our hearts out every year. That's how it works.
