David price may be the difference maker again this year. He only lost one game in august. He's heating up when it matters most. The jays look to be doing the opposite

Sure but he is no Happ

Price hasn't lost a game since Aug 7. Hes a big money pitcher peaking at the right time

I think the jays winning the division won't happen. Boston is just too strong . They have a wild card chance

You're probably right. I think the Jays fare super well in a 1 game playoff situation though. For the sake of foresight, if we assume the Jays would face either the O's or the Tigers in the wildcard game they'd pretty much be money if they could align Sanchez to start. Sanchez matches up ridiculously well against either team and aside from Michael Fulmer, the starters on the other sides don't really worry me too much.

A big part of me wants to see the jays miss out on the playoffs. It'll be easier for Shatkins to justify cleaning house in the off-season. Its what needs to be done. Its not like this team can compete with likes of Texas or Chicago anyway in the post season.

Boston is not assured to make the postseason--they've been mediocre vs. Toronto and Baltimore. Plus, the Yankees won a series earlier in the summer.. and the race is far from over.

However, for teams like the Astros, the end could come this weekend (big series vs. the Cubs then the Rangers, who the Astros are frequently dominated by.)

This is garbage. Didn't people think the Jays would have a great chance at rolling over Kansas City last year? Anything can happen in the playoffs.

To wish for them to miss the playoffs when they have a team that is easily capable shows you aren't a true fan.

This boston series could be huge. If the jays fall three games back of Boston after the series they won't be able to make that up imo

Come on man? Seriously?

I gotta agree, Texas looks like a completely different team this year. Darvish back... And what a massive boost Lucroy provides to the club. He's one of the best offensive catcher in the game right now as far as I'm concerned.

But look, once you reach the playoffs anything can happen. It's all about getting hot at the right time. It looks bleak right now, but if things start clicking for the guys a week before the playoffs than the sky's the limit. It's pretty stupid to actually want the Jays to miss the playoffs

It's a race and you just keep winning.

This thread is dumb, call it whatever you want if the team doesn't make playoffs but right now it's just a skid. Time to start peaking over the next few weeks.

Great to have you back Jay!

Its clear Shapiro is going to do whats best for the franchise moving forward regardless of team performance. To wish the team does bad so its easier to justify it to fans is just dumb.

If the Jays win the world series its not like Shapiro is going to hire every employee back anyways. He's smart and will do what he thinks is best.

But how will Price pitch in the playoffs? Obviously if the Blue Jays play a one-game wildcard, you would hope for it to be at home since the team can use the adrenaline from the crowd as an advantage. The atmosphere would basically be like the game 5 against Texas, win or go home!

Its all good.

Were winning the division.

If we don't win the division were winning the wild card. Either or were making the playoffs.

After that were winning Round 1, Round 2 then going for that World Series booty

Or you could have just not made a thread.

Division is now 33%... 1/3 ALDS 58%

No need to make a thread about the implosion... nothing to see here!

For better or worse Implosion week is the most important thing that has happened in the season so far.

It isn't trivial. There has been a significant shift in the probabilities. Let people mourn if they want to...

Monday morning the impolosion could be complete... some people need to make preparations for the end just in case. R.I.P. Bautista era Blue Jays...

Monday morning the impolosion could be complete... some people need to make preparations for the end just in case. R.I.P. Bautista era Blue Jays...

They wrote (and accidently published) the obituary for Steve Jobs long before he died... so I would like to write one for Bautista era Blue Jays, in case it is needed Sunday afternoon.

Bautista era Blue Jays - The Bautista era Toronto Blue Jays tragically perished Sunday, Sept 11th, 2016 after a brief and courageous battle with implosion. The implosion began suddenly in Tampa Bay on September 2nd, and despite the valiant efforts of the coaching staff, front office, and Blue Jays Message Board, the implosion could not be stopped. Red Sox slugger David Ortiz, had nothing but kind words for the Bautista era Blue Jays. "Bautista and also Edwin Encarnacion are class acts, as is Josh Donaldson, they thrilled the fans while they could... it's always sad to see a team implode, the entire Red Sox organization sends their condolences." When asked how he felt about taking a 4 game lead in the A.L. East Ortiz was respectful, "I wish it happened under different circumstances, I hate to pad my numbers against an imploding team." Asked why he thought the Blue Jays imploded, Ortiz was insightful. "To be honest, I don't think they had enough young players. Our front office has done a great job drafting young players, like Mookie Betts, Jackie Bradley, and Bogartz, they bring energy, diversity and anti-fragility to the team. Honestly, the red sox may have imploded if they sent 7 of me out there every night... I can hardly move to be honest."

The Blue Jays front office and players had no comment, other than they would like their privacy respected for now. Fans around baseball, including Red Sox and second place Oriole fans are encouraged to leave messages of condolence on Blue Jays Message Board (http://www.bluejaysmessageboard.com).

I'm really curious what this team will look like headin into 2017. Shatkins has/have had a year now basically to see this team and figure out what they like, and don't like.

As for this collapse? Meh...I'm a Toronto boy...I expect this sort of thing...it's coded in my DNA.

1-5 in September. Red Sox could take over first place tonight. Orioles a game back and the Yankees right in the mix as well. Finishing 4th in the Division is a very real possibility.

Jonn how old are you??

Not a lot of people likely remember implosion 1987 or the lesser known implosion 1990. Take a look at the last week of those seasons.

Positive: As implosions go this is rather humane. Get it done first week of September instead of last... the team will fall 5 games out and in 2036 no one will even know an implosion happened.

It will be over quick. Monday morning it is done

Spanky (Monday morning) - 4 games back of the division, but only 2 back of the wild card, all is not lost -- KEEP IN MIND LADS -- Os and Sox play each other 7 times in the next 11 days. One of them has to lose.. no?? We just take care of our business and we'll be close to either the wild card or division lead in a week. Then there's those 3 in Boston last weekend. They will mean something. We gain 2 games in the next two weeks... then take care of business in Boston. That's all it takes.

I like Spanky. I'm not making fun of him. I hope he posts something like this just to get you guys going....

That 1987 one was bad. I was 13 and I couldn't believe what was happening. A lot of people still believe that was the best Blue Jays team ever (collapse notwithstanding).

Injuries to Whitt and Fernandez played a role in that collapse. That's part of the reason you could argue that the team deserved better (especially considering that Fernandez was injured by an opposing Tigers player).

1985 playoff implosion too. But yes 1987's losing their last 7 (after a 7 game winning streak), including 4 one run games against the only team that could catch you...that was a bad one. In my mind that Kirk Gibson HR in the 9th off of Henke in the game with 7 left was almost as big as 1 legged Kirk Gibson. Forgotten now but any loss at that point would have changed the outcome of the season.
