Governator Community Moderator Posted September 1, 2016 Posted September 1, 2016 .363 BAPIP against him with an 18% HR/FB His avg FB and CB V is down 0.3 MPH. Barely discernible. the issue has been FB command and the sharpness of the CB break. Keep putting him out there in lower leverage and hope he gets some luck and some confidence back, because we could really use him. It's almost too late to gain trust tbh. If he can't up his game to expectations while playing for a top contending team then we might not have room for him. Low leverage this month sure but if he doesn't find it by mid September I'd leave him off the roster. If he can't get righties out, Loup is a better Loogy at this point.
RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted September 1, 2016 Posted September 1, 2016 Since joining the blue jays, Benoit has played in 15 games with an ERA of ZERO and WHIP of 1.186. How is he below Feldman and the corpse of Brett Cecil? Bc he doesn't get them sexy strikeouts

Cecil and Feldman actually lead the team in bullpen xFIP for august, and are the only pitchers along with Stroman to have a sub 3 xFIP in August

I don't trust him right now but I'm keeping the faith in Cecil. I want to see him get work and get it going. He hasn't been as bad as some think, and I don't see anything wrong with his stuff. Last night was another disappointment agreed. Can you imagine the impact of a 2015 Cecil coming out of the pen right now? He mowed down LHH and RHH. Would be a massive boost.

Unless his apparent weight gain is the source of the troubles.

My thought is if he couldn't figure things out during his 6 week DL stint I can't imagine him fixing it now during our biggest games.
THANOS Old-Timey Member Posted September 1, 2016 Posted September 1, 2016 Can Barnes make the post season roster? Is he eligible?
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted September 1, 2016 Author Posted September 1, 2016 Can Barnes make the post season roster? Is he eligible? Yes. He's been with the org all year. Jist have to be in the org before Sept.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted September 2, 2016 Posted September 2, 2016 So based upon a 1-10 scale where 10 is trusting that reliever to babysit my yet to be conceived (as far as I know anyway) first born child and 1 is I wouldn't trust them as far as I could throw them here is what I'm thinking. That's pretty damn subjective but if Cecil came in to a tight late inning playoff game I'd probably be s***ing my pants the whole time he's out there. I like this. Osuna - 10 Grilli - 9 Biagini - 9 Barnes - 6 Cecil - 4 Benoit - 3.5 Loup- 3.5 Feldman - 3 Tepera - (-6) Dermody - let's find out!!!!

How is he below Feldman and the corpse of Brett Cecil? WHIP is a somewhat dumb stat, especially when we're talking 14-15 innings.
AttaBoy Verified Member Posted September 2, 2016 Posted September 2, 2016 Because his walk and strikeout rates are s***? But they're not though? Last 3 years averaging 10/2.5'ish... guess you prefer the 15 IP SS over the 190 IP SS?

Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted September 2, 2016 Posted September 2, 2016 Osuna - 9 Grilli - 8 Biagini - 7.5 Benoit - 5 Feldman - 4.5 Cecil - 4 Loup - 1 Barnes - Not enough information Dermody - Not enough information Tepera - 0 Will be interesting to see where Lirano fits in.
mellowgold Verified Member Posted September 2, 2016 Posted September 2, 2016 Pretty silly that people are rating Barnes so high when he's only pitched, what, three games in the show? I agree that he COULD be that guy, at least by looking at his numbers this year, but come on, let's get a look at the guy first.

Well his numbers are THAT good in the minors and for me at least, he passes the eye test.

If he doesn't, the Jays can petition to have a pitcher who was in their organisation but not on their 40 man roster before September 1 to be added to their playoff roster (a.k.a. Dermody).
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted September 2, 2016 Posted September 2, 2016 If Gavin Floyd was going to come back this season I think we would have heard something.

Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted September 2, 2016 Posted September 2, 2016 Ben Nicholson-Smith Ben Nicholson-Smith – Verified account @bnicholsonsmith #BlueJays haven't ruled out possibility that Gavin Floyd (lat) returns per Pete Walker. Doesn't sound like Floyd's close, though. 5:45 pm - 31 Aug 2016
Dick_Pole Old-Timey Member Posted September 2, 2016 Posted September 2, 2016 I think there's much ado about nothing here. Osuna, Grilli, Biagini and a lefty (hopefully Liriano) will pick up 90% of the relief innings in the playoffs with Benoit another 8%. The rest of the dumpster fire will get 2 innings the whole playoffs if they're lucky unless one of the starters goes 3 innings and in that scenario that game is probably a lost cause anyways. I think people are forgetting that the team will be going from 6.5 games a week to 3.5 games a week. The top guys will be sufficiently rested. Just because Ryan Tepera is physically on the roster won't mean he will be anything more than an overpaid cheerleader. Talking about Gavin Floyd is just pure overkill.
THANOS Old-Timey Member Posted September 2, 2016 Posted September 2, 2016 Yes. He's been with the org all year. Jist have to be in the org before Sept. s***, that's great then. I hope he makes the PS, he looked fantastic despite that one bad BABIP outing.
SAAviour Verified Member Posted September 2, 2016 Posted September 2, 2016 Let's make the playoffs first. No jinxing!
puphood Verified Member Posted September 2, 2016 Posted September 2, 2016 Get by Boston and come Oct the pen Osuna Grilli Biagini Benoit Feldman Cecil for one then sit him down possibly Liriano see how Sept goes Sept is the second try outs so who knows about Barns The rest can sit down including Loup
