Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted August 29, 2016 Posted August 29, 2016 I will laugh if Boston does a troll claim just for fun.
RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted August 29, 2016 Posted August 29, 2016 I will laugh if Boston does a troll claim just for fun. why would Boston want to take away Dickey starts. Dickey is the worst of our 6 starting pitchers.
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted August 29, 2016 Posted August 29, 2016 why would Boston want to take away Dickey starts. Dickey is the worst of our 6 starting pitchers. Dickey is going to be starting regardless if Thole is here or not. It just means Kratz. Or Martin if he agrees to do it.

Slade Old-Timey Member Posted August 29, 2016 Posted August 29, 2016 No other team is wasting a roster spot on Thole, he'll be back in September to catch Dickey. Although this is probably a clear sign Dickey is out of the playoff roster.

I think there is zero chance Martin catches Dickey. They'll either use Kratz or force Navarro to do it
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted August 29, 2016 Posted August 29, 2016 You don't need to waste a spot, claim him and DFA him a day later. Something I just thought of. Not sure if Thole can do this. But remember when we claimed Steve Pearce but declined the claim and returned to the Orioles? Not sure if the circumstances allow him to do that. But that would be interesting.
Slade Old-Timey Member Posted August 29, 2016 Posted August 29, 2016 You don't need to waste a spot, claim him and DFA him a day later. We're talking about Josh Thole, there is no strategic value in that. You're probably helping us from keeping that s*** bat out of the line up. Thole not here to catch Dickey then Kratz/Jimenez gets the call.

Pretty much anyone in the division should want to play spoiler, they know what we know, as long as it doesn't cost them anything, why not play spoiler? It's clearly a possibility, otherwise Thole wouldn't clear his locker.
STLJaysFan Verified Member Posted August 29, 2016 Posted August 29, 2016 Is Navarro someone the Blue Jays would bring back for next year to be a backup? In that case, this would be a sign that Thole (as well as Dickey) are probably done in a Jays uniform after this season.
AttaBoy Verified Member Posted August 29, 2016 Posted August 29, 2016 I don't think people realize how bad Kratz has become, he's worse than Thole.
RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted August 29, 2016 Posted August 29, 2016 Honestly there is no need for Dickey to start either, we have 3 offdays in September, can easily skip Sanchez and still have no Dickey. Just look at his last game.

For all the good feelings he inspires, Navarro is a bottom of the barrell catcher both offensively and defensively at this point in his career and he's 32 so there's probably not much of a bounceback left. That being said his comfort with the pitching staff would give him an edge for that job. I suppose be used as a bridge until McGuire is ready to join the big club.
CBlake Verified Member Posted August 29, 2016 Posted August 29, 2016 What exactly is irrevocable waivers compared to being DFA'd? Remember last year they sent him to Bluefield and he came back up in September when the roster expanded. I wonder if this is just another way of doing that?

They were probably hinting around that's the league Thole should be playing in!!

It's exactly what they're doing, Bluefield's season ends on Thursday.
CBlake Verified Member Posted August 29, 2016 Posted August 29, 2016 Well if I am reading this right, For him to be irrevocable waivers Josh must have been placed on waivers earlier this month and someone actually made a claim. Wonder who would have done that? ( :
STLJaysFan Verified Member Posted August 29, 2016 Posted August 29, 2016 The Mets should take him back, they took back Reyes.

Wonder who would have done that? ( : I dont think it works like that. It just means that if Thole Clears irrevocable waivers, then he can either be released than resigned, or sent to minors etc. If Boston does claim Thole, they have to give him a 25 man spot for the next few days, and keep him on the 40 man in September. I doubt they care enough, If I am Boston I want him catching Dickey for the Jays.

intentional wok Old-Timey Member Posted August 29, 2016 Posted August 29, 2016 Dickey is a SP who can be successful. He'll be starting games in the playoffs if there's an injury, in case anyone thinks September is absolutely the Dickey finale.

GD Old-Timey Member Posted September 1, 2016 Posted September 1, 2016 "My hope, of course, is that Josh comes back. We have a lot of history together and he’s actually starting to play really well, even offensively he’s contributed in the games I’ve been a part of." lol
