Governator Community Moderator Posted August 5, 2016 Posted August 5, 2016 Hasn't he pitched 165 innings in a year and threw all year last year during rehab? He didn't have an arm injury.
Deadpool Old-Timey Member Posted August 5, 2016 Posted August 5, 2016 If they are so worried about young arms being stretched out, are they doing it to stro and all their pitchers in the minors? Don't believe he's capped at all. He's been built up to throw 200+
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted August 5, 2016 Posted August 5, 2016 If they are so worried about young arms being stretched out, are they doing it to stro and all their pitchers in the minors? Our pitchers aren't being babied anymore in the minors. Atleast the way they use to be. As for Stroman they are monitoring his innings. Just to a lesser extent because he was built up more than Sanchez ever was. It would be more of a story if he wasn't having a disappointing season compared to what was expected.
fatcowxlive Old-Timey Member Posted August 5, 2016 Posted August 5, 2016 If they are so worried about young arms being stretched out, are they doing it to stro and all their pitchers in the minors? Because he was babied in the minors and was piggybacking with Syndergaard/Nicolino

WONDERBAT Verified Member Posted August 8, 2016 Posted August 8, 2016 His awfulness will have him below 200IP no need to worry.
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted August 8, 2016 Posted August 8, 2016 I'll never understand that stupidity. Dr. Gruber - I'd love to hear your evidence on the proper way to develop a pitcher.

glory Old-Timey Member Posted August 8, 2016 Posted August 8, 2016 Stroman threw 166 innings in 2014 and it was almost entirely as a starter (that relief stint was really necessary for two weeks). Sanchez was covered in bubble wrap for years by AA and so he's never had a full season as a starter. I think 100 IP is the most he's pitched out of the rotation, and he's on the verge of doubling that, which is why it's such a huge deal for the front office. Those of you expecting Osuna to start will get the same rude awakening.
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted August 8, 2016 Posted August 8, 2016 Those of you expecting Osuna to start will get the same rude awakening. I think that ship has officially sailed. Osuna is providing good value where he is and the 2017 rotation is pretty much set.

Not sure Rehab pitching was or is the same as pitching in a Game though either. Mental or Physically also doubt he was max effort for most of that time while rehabbing. More like a side session warm up Deal?

Shanchez 2014 pitched 133.1 innings and in 2015 he pitched 102 innings, giving him 235.1 innings. Is Stromans practice time Rehabbing more, then the mutiple times of sides sessions or warming up to come into actual games really greater then what Shanchez did last year in comparison ? 3 year totals have them right now at Stroman at 347.2, Shanchez at 380.2 them are the facts! Also and I stand to be corrected but Shanchez may have had more innings pitched in his 2014-15 totals as well but was he not shut down by a Lat strain or something as well ???

Atothe Old-Timey Member Posted August 8, 2016 Posted August 8, 2016 Ship has sailed on a 21 year old who has been a starter before last year. Interesting
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted August 8, 2016 Posted August 8, 2016 Ship has sailed on a 21 year old who has been a starter before last year. Interesting He wants to close Gibby luvs him as the closer He's been awesome in that role Hard to see them changing it up
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted August 8, 2016 Posted August 8, 2016 For the record I've wanted him to have a shot at starting Grilli would be fine as closer
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted August 8, 2016 Posted August 8, 2016 Ship has sailed on a 21 year old who has been a starter before last year. Interesting Why should the possibility (and it's only a possibility) that Osuna could be a good starter trump the reality that he's a good closer? I was never a fan of moving him to the bullpen but now that it's happened and it's turned out better than anyone could have realistically expected, you can't just ignore that reality and go back to a plan A which was never a sure thing in the first place.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted August 8, 2016 Posted August 8, 2016 Ship has sailed on a 21 year old who has been a starter before last year. Interesting If they are having this much internal struggle with Sanchez's innings this year, magnify that by a million for Osuna. It's not happening. Plus, Shapiro looks at WPA based on his interview with Bobcat and Osuna is 4th in all of baseball for pitchers. He might be happy with Osuna in the pen.
o2cui2i Community Moderator Posted August 8, 2016 Posted August 8, 2016 I'll never understand that stupidity. at least the new front office has removed that insanity from our farm system

It's not a horrible idea to take a look a stretching him out and see how it turns out. He can always go back to the pen.
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted August 8, 2016 Posted August 8, 2016 and what if he could be a 7 innings/start shut down starter? They're not going to make a decision on a "what if". The probability isn't strong enough to justify the move.

I'm not talking about this year. I'd like to see them try next year. Tell him he needs to prepare to start next spring and see how it goes during ST. This year they need him where is and trying to change mid season would make no sense
The Cats Ass Old-Timey Member Posted August 8, 2016 Posted August 8, 2016 I'll never understand that stupidity. at least the new front office has removed that insanity from our farm system Piggybacking makes sense in the low minors. Allows you to develop more starting pitchers at once. Instead of being limited to 5 starters being developed in A- or A, you can have up to 10 starters on each team.

Fine for first season max two for high school kids it's ok, but after low A he's a hindrance to the development of starters.

Tell him he needs to prepare to start next spring and see how it goes during ST. This year they need him where is and trying to change mid season would make no sense I don't think there's enough there to justify the move. It's not like we're talking a guy who was dominating the high minors and knocking on the door. We're talking 109 innings in the low minors. Yes he was very good but that doesn't mean he was necessarily destined for greatness. As good as he was, the odds are still stacked against it. That's just the reality of baseball and pitching. Knowing how much a reliever like him would cost in the open market or through a trade, it's just not worth sacrificing what he can do as a closer right now. I was in favor of transitioning him coming into this season but now that he has a second season as an excellent closer, now that we know that the bullpen isn't really a strength for this team and can't be fixed cheaply, now that there's already a full rotation in place for next year, it just seems really obvious that the die is cast.
Arjun Nimmala Vancouver Canadians - A+ SS It's been slow going at the start of the season for Nimmala, but on Sunday, he was 3-for-5 with his 3rd home run and 3 RBI. Explore Arjun Nimmala News >
