6 man rotation or just give him a hard cap on pitch count or innings per start. Have it fluctuate depending on stress of innings. Theoretically you could piggy back him with someone just having him finish the game throwing 3 or 4 innings or something.

Starter: 5 innings

Sanchez: 3 innings

Osuna: 1 inning (if winning)

I just hope they find a way to make Sanchez available to start playoff games. There has to be a creative way to get this done.

Piggy back with Liriano?? I wonder how effective Liriano would be going 3 innings every 5th day, and loogie as needed 1-2 of the other days.

That's not how piggybacking works, if a guy goes short, I'd assume you could use his side session into the fold, other wise, nada.

Even if he is piggybacked, a deeper playoff run could push him over 200 innings if he starts. They probably would have needed to do it several starts ago if they wanted to go that route. It kinda sounded to me (reading between the lines) like the plan is to use him judiciously in bringing him in for multiple innings when protecting an important lead.

The best news in all of this is that Sanchez has been so f'n good that he's made this agonizing necessary.

Is there hard evidence that you need to shut down a pitcher who is like 25 even though they have never pitched this long?

Its not like he had TJS

Im no medical expert Im just curious if this is even a debate, then there must be little evidence in the pro-shutting down camp that pitching this year out will hurt his arm. If this was a sure thing he is in the bullpen tm.

I don't think they'd let backlash sway their decision (and there's been tons of backlash by practically everyone), but who knows.

Hey how come this franchise doesn't care about Stromans innings

Stro threw 166 innings in 2014 (at least). Teams don't seem to be as concerned with it in instances where they miss one year if they've already built up to it in the recent past (who knows if they're right or not).

Good point about the Strowshow

Shapiro was on the radio the other day saying 2 high leverage innings from Sanchez is more valuable than a start.

Also that 5 of the most valuable 10 pitchers in the league were relievers

And Shanchez threw 134 !!!

Plus he Threw more innings last year, Real ones!!!

Also the wimpy kid added 25 lbs of muscle!!!

So there is that!

I know I posted before but in terms of Real innings pitch in games over the last 3 years Shanchez holds the edge on Stroman too!

So do we need to move him to the pen also???

FWIW, I think the backlash from the US has stepped up. All the major sports shows have been discussing it. Maybe that influences Shatkins more....?

I hope they aren't that thin skinned.

While he's still pitching lights out they should shove The Dick into the pen as a mop up guy where he would do the least damage. move Dick back to the rotation if Sanchez starts to wear down

In that interview with Gibby. I just saw it. Litterally nothing to read into this at all. Nothing we didn't know. They didn't make a decision as to when they will take him out of the rotation yet.

If they plan to keep Sanchez in the rotation, I think you let him skip a turn and give Liriano 2 starts. If he doesn't step up, he goes to the 'pen.

On what planet do the Jays have the balls to do that? They'll give veteran Dickey the ball every 5th day until he dies.

It would really help if Liriano can be valuable as a starter. that would be such a bonus.

Paying for Liriano was a cheap price for what they could have going forward.

The pitcher's age has a lot to do with it also. At under 25, men are still growing and strengthening naturally. During this time the risk of injury is a little higher due to tendons still maturing. Years ago, young pitchers were rarely called up before they hit 25 as they were gradually building their innings in the minors. When they eventually got called up, they were good to go for the full season and were usually the team's fourth or fifth starter, which helped negate some of the innings.

Sanchez just turned 24, so he's kind of on the cusp. I think his off season regiment advanced him enough where i think he could handle staying in the rotation, mainly because his delivery isn't that violent and doesn't throw a high percentage of curve balls.

The "just because that is how we do it mentality in regards to young arms" with no actual evidence that it is physically beneficial for his longevity as a pitcher by limiting his innings. Since there is no compelling evidence that he has a elbow/shoulder issue? Why. While we are at it take Estrada out because of his obvious back problems as they may want to save him for next year to, or the other half a dozen banged up players. Bunch of pussies that don't want to make the tough choices to win.........
