TheHurl Site Manager Posted July 31, 2016 Posted July 31, 2016 I know people are leery about making new threads and others hate the huge Around Baseball thread. So we'll throw everything in here. If you feel a trade is thread worthy, go ahead and make it. A mod might throw it in here or keep it. Don't fear making threads at this point in the season. If you start making a thread cause a thought popped in your head, you might get a warning email. Anyway Indians have added Lucroy and Miller in exchange for Frazier, Sheffield, Mejia, Allen and Chang. What I like about it: Indians added two talents players both of whom are under control for this year and next (Miller and the rest of the core for 2 seasons). They had the deepest system in baseball. They still have some pieces on the farm. This was not a full AA type all-in as the entire core is under control. What I don't like about it: They were 86% to win the division, 95% to make the playoffs...they could have traded the same prospects in the off season and did even better (or kept them). The playoffs are still a crapshoot and while this improved their team it's not like it writes them a ticket to the finals.
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted July 31, 2016 Posted July 31, 2016 Yankees are so shady. Miller takes less to sign with them. And than they skull f*** Cleveland when hes at his highest value and got an incredible haul. The Lucroy trade isn't official yet. One of the prospects rumoured in that trade went to the Yankees. So will see what happens with that. If I was the Brewers I would hold out for more. Considering what the Yankees just got.
jays4life19 Old-Timey Member Posted July 31, 2016 Posted July 31, 2016 So it looks like it's Andrew Miller for Clint Frazier, Justus Sheffied, Ben Heller and J.P. Feyereisen. That's quite the haul.
fatcowxlive Old-Timey Member Posted July 31, 2016 Posted July 31, 2016 Well I didn't think Miller was going anywhere and if anything Betances was going to be dealt, I guess he's their new closer I wonder if the Jays FO will make a move or if they are really handcuffed? They've shown that if they believe in something they can take criticism so if they end up not able to make favourable moves they won't make any just to please the fanbase and overpay.

I don't think he wants to go to Cleveland, maybe he doesn't want to go anywhere lol
ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted July 31, 2016 Posted July 31, 2016 Did the Blue Jays give up nearly as much? Not sure, but who cares. Hopefully, Indians fans show up to support their team like Jays' fans have done since the Jays went for it.
intentional wok Old-Timey Member Posted July 31, 2016 Posted July 31, 2016 I find it a bit surreal how much teams will pay for a great relief pitcher. I guess, with that rotation and a Miller + Allen duo at the back, it makes the Indians incredibly hard to beat.

RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted July 31, 2016 Posted July 31, 2016 In the playoffs anything can happen. It's a crap shoot I think that in a division or championship series we can definitely beat the Indians

If we can't get a mid rotation SP his arm can add wins to any good team. He is one guy who is under control and worth the $ he is getting paid. Yanks have used that deal and Chapman to load up. And they still have Betances. Shrewd moves.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted July 31, 2016 Author Posted July 31, 2016 Yanks are certainly interesting. Do they have a nothing off-season and get under the luxury tax? Then spend huge 2018 with the best farm in baseball behind them?

I don't think he wants to go to Cleveland, maybe he doesn't want to go anywhere lol He wants to go somewhere just not Cleveland. If I was him getting Miller should have sealed the deal. Assuming its him whose hesitant. He will have a 2 year window to win in Cleveland. And than hes a free agent in position to sign the richest contract for a catcher in history.

I saw he might be looking for financial compensation if he goes to the Indians
ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted July 31, 2016 Posted July 31, 2016 I think Jays should consider trading Osuna during the off season. This was suggested by BB to be fair.

Then spend huge 2018 with the best farm in baseball behind them? That sounds like the plan. Whatever they can't sell this year they will sell next year. Sign one year contracts on guys looking to rebuild value and be sellers again. Than the eventual billion dollar off-season in 2018.
jaysguy44 Old-Timey Member Posted July 31, 2016 Posted July 31, 2016 I think Jays should consider trading Osuna during the off season. This was suggested by BB to be fair. Hahaha what.... why....
ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted July 31, 2016 Posted July 31, 2016 Hahaha what.... why.... Because of the package they could get back.
jaysguy44 Old-Timey Member Posted July 31, 2016 Posted July 31, 2016 Because of the package they could get back. And who would close? Our bullpen is already the shits as it is, losing Osuna would be terrible unless we were getting back a Miller type of reliever
GreekFatAss Verified Member Posted July 31, 2016 Posted July 31, 2016 And who would close? Our bullpen is already the shits as it is, losing Osuna would be terrible unless we were getting back a Miller type of reliever With the prices that are being paid for top relievers, you could probably get back 2 Osuna's to put in the pen right away. (Although you would want them starting)
glory Old-Timey Member Posted July 31, 2016 Posted July 31, 2016 Yankees are getting Tyler Clippard, according to Heyman.

jays4life19 Old-Timey Member Posted July 31, 2016 Posted July 31, 2016 The Yankees have reached a deal to acquire right-hander Tyler Clippard from the D-backs, reports FanRag’s Jon Heyman (Twitter link). The Clippard acquisition signals that in spite of this morning’s stunning trade of Andrew Miller to Cleveland, the Yankees aren’t waving a white flag on the 2016 season just yet. Joel Sherman of the New York Post was first to report that the Yankees were looking for veteran bullpen help even after moving Miller (Twitter link). - Mlbtraderumors.
jaysguy44 Old-Timey Member Posted July 31, 2016 Posted July 31, 2016 I don't understand the from the Yankees point of view
jaysguy44 Old-Timey Member Posted July 31, 2016 Posted July 31, 2016 Alright, I'd want a package of young players in return. That makes zero sense
RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted July 31, 2016 Posted July 31, 2016 I'd rather have two elite top 5 relievers than a top 5 ace pitcher. I'd rather have Chapman and Miller giving me 7-8 innings a week than Sale going every 5 days I know conventional wisdom would say the ace is better.
fatcowxlive Old-Timey Member Posted July 31, 2016 Posted July 31, 2016 Yankees get Tyler Clippard Cardinals get Zack Duke for Charlie Tilson
RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted July 31, 2016 Posted July 31, 2016 I don't understand the from the Yankees point of view They are diversifying the risk. If their hitting does get on a hot streak they want to have a decent bullpen and try and get a wild card. They know they can't compete with the Jays for the division
intentional wok Old-Timey Member Posted July 31, 2016 Posted July 31, 2016 That makes zero sense They're not throwing in the towel, but also couldn't resist Cleveland's offer for Miller. With Clippard they may still be respectably "in it" from their own perspective.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted July 31, 2016 Author Posted July 31, 2016 I don't understand the from the Yankees point of view Depends on the price. Gives them a replacement bullpen piece in case they end up going on a nice run. If not they can probably get a return for him before August 30th
