Maahfaace Verified Member Posted July 26, 2016 Posted July 26, 2016 Jays dont need him, at this point in he career he isnt much of an improvement over what Zeke has provided.
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2016 Posted July 26, 2016 Potential deal hinges on how much salary the Padres are willing to pay, as per Rosenthal
dineke Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2016 Posted July 26, 2016 Jays dont need him, at this point in he career he isnt much of an improvement over what Zeke has provided. They'll need him next year when our OF consists of Zeke, Pillar, and Pompey.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted July 26, 2016 Author Posted July 26, 2016 What role would he have here? I'm.thinking maybe it's more about next year? Not sure how they'd use him now.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2016 Posted July 26, 2016 Upton in OF > Smoak at 1B. Depends on the cost and how much SD eats up. Better not be a real prospect. Maybe they are keeping Barnes in the minors for a reason.
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2016 Posted July 26, 2016 What role would he have here? Great insurance for next year. This year, he would probably play RF with Bautista playing DH/1B
Maahfaace Verified Member Posted July 26, 2016 Posted July 26, 2016 They'll need him next year when our OF consists of Zeke, Pillar, and Pompey. Naw, there will be FA options to be had in the off-season
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2016 Posted July 26, 2016 $16.4M in 2017 If Padres eat some of his salary for next year, then having Upton here on a one year contract at a reasonable rate isn't that bad considering the FA market for outfielders is weak.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2016 Posted July 26, 2016 Naw, there will be FA options to be had in the off-season The FA market for hitters this offseason is pretty weak.
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2016 Posted July 26, 2016 What role would he have here? I assume they'd roll people through the DH, with Smoak losing some playing time and the other guys getting some rest as DH down the stretch. Having another "true" CF wouldn't be a bad thing either in case Pillar goes down.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted July 26, 2016 Author Posted July 26, 2016 Of course he would fit the team's PR better if his name was still "B.J."
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2016 Posted July 26, 2016 Jays dont need him, at this point in he career he isnt much of an improvement over what Zeke has provided. Are you f***ing drunk?
Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2016 Posted July 26, 2016 I want to know what it'll cost from a prospect standpoint.

My thoughts exactly. Upton can play everyday in RF and rotate Bautista, Saunders, and Edwin at DH. It's a pretty good option.
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2016 Posted July 26, 2016 I want to know what it'll cost from a prospect standpoint. Probably very little to nothing if we're willing to eat next year's salary for him.
Laika Community Moderator Posted July 26, 2016 Posted July 26, 2016 I want to know what it'll cost from a prospect standpoint. Depends on how much salary they eat. If they eat nothing, then he should cost nothing. If they eat a big chunk, then maybe some B- prospect like Connor Greene.
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2016 Posted July 26, 2016 I want to know what it'll cost from a prospect standpoint. Nothing. Maybe a C prospect.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted July 26, 2016 Author Posted July 26, 2016 Cause Saunders doesn't deserve to lose any playing time that's for sure Bautista could DH and Edwin 1B but then was does Smoak do? (I wouldn't care if it weren't for his new contract extension)
Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2016 Posted July 26, 2016 What role would he have here? I think you would see him start against lefties and help to keep Saunders and Bautista fresh, with his at-bats coming at the expense of Smoak and Carrera. He would also be utilized quite frequently off of the bench I think.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted July 26, 2016 Author Posted July 26, 2016 BTW, Why isn't he BJ anymore? He just decided to change his name a couple years ago. I don't remember why.
BTS Community Moderator Posted July 26, 2016 Posted July 26, 2016 Upton + millions of dollars for a low-level prospect would be very nice. He's good depth this year, pretty good insurance to have around in 2017 with Saunders and Bautista hitting free agency.
THANOS Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2016 Posted July 26, 2016 I don't get it. Why? Is Upton really much of an upgrade over Carrera, and now JB is back. What would he even cost anyhow? I wouldn't give up any of SRF, Tellez, Alford, Harris, Perdomo, Bichette, Vlad Jr, or even Greene for him.

Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2016 Posted July 26, 2016 He just decided to change his name a couple years ago. I don't remember why. Melvin Upton Jr. is his real name. B.J. Stood for Bossman Jr. Bossman being his Dad's nickname.
gbill2004 Verified Member Posted July 26, 2016 Posted July 26, 2016 This is a move for next year to replace Bautista.
Maahfaace Verified Member Posted July 26, 2016 Posted July 26, 2016 Are you f***ing drunk? BJ is pretty much warm garbage, strikes out a ton, doesn't walk, has almost zero pop in his bat the last 3 years before running into a few this year. He plays passable defense, but he is prone to some serious slumps at the plate where he looks absolutely lost at the plate ala justin smoak. Hes not BJ from 2011 and prior. Dont need him, much rather the jays go after some help for the pen.
