Unfortunately it wasn't good enough for Dunedin to win. 2) Yonardo Herdenez: Herdenez went 6 strong innings giving up only 1 hit with 7 strikeouts. 3) Andrew Guillotte: Guillotte went 3/5 with a double. Kings Platinum Arencibia 1) Jeremy Gabryszwski: Gabryszwski was terrible, not making it out of the 1st inning going 0.1IP 2H 34ER 3BB 0K. Edited July 22, 2016 by King

THANOS Old-Timey Member Posted July 22, 2016 Posted July 22, 2016 Another day, another inning and 2 K's for Danny Barnes. ERA is now 0.66 and I can only imagine how great his FIP is.

THANOS Old-Timey Member Posted July 22, 2016 Posted July 22, 2016 1.01. #fangraphsishard Is that up to date? The MiLB fangraphs is usually a week behind.
King Old-Timey Member Posted July 22, 2016 Author Posted July 22, 2016 Is that up to date? The MiLB fangraphs is usually a week behind. Minor leagues update the next day. Game logs in the morning and main page in the afternoon. I believe cyborg said
King Old-Timey Member Posted July 22, 2016 Author Posted July 22, 2016 Barnes deserves the shot. Silly numbers.
Thaddeus Malice Verified Member Posted July 22, 2016 Posted July 22, 2016 So Vladdy Jr with 15 BB to only 17k in 119 PA. Solid rate and flashing power while 17? Good early signs.
Rusty_Savage Verified Member Posted July 22, 2016 Posted July 22, 2016 How come Bo was pulled from the game?

Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted July 22, 2016 Posted July 22, 2016 From BP: Vladimir Guerrero, 3B, Toronto Blue Jays (Short-Season Bluefield): 1-2, 3 BB, 2 SB, K. Adam McInturff put his eyes on Guerrero recently, and will have more in-depth notes forthcoming. But given the ultra-aggressive approach, Appy League pitchers are clearly terrified of this guy, as he’s now ended almost as many plate appearances with a walk as he has with a whiff. There’s titillating raw power potential here, along with a to-be-continued decision on whether to deploy his howitzer of an arm at the hot corner or in right field.

How is he "ultra-aggressive" if he is walking as much as he's striking out? That just seems like he's patient AND dangerous, considering the power is there. If he were ultra-aggressive he would be chasing...
Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted July 22, 2016 Posted July 22, 2016 I thought we weren't allowed to get excited about prospects until they hit AA.

I take it to mean that the pitchers are already so scared of his aggression and power that they're not throwing pitches anywhere near the strike zone. Nice to know he will actually lay off the shitballs, tho.

Do you know if pitchers are just pitching around him or is he going to be a "free swinger" like his father?

Vlad is going to be a patient, plodding 3B with massive power. Like a Troy Glaus!

His swing rate was high, but he wasn't averse to taking walks.

Laika Community Moderator Posted July 22, 2016 Posted July 22, 2016 Vlad actually had a pretty decent walk rate for his career. His swing rate was high, but he wasn't averse to taking walks. Vlad's BB rate was very low compared to other hitters in his era with comparable power (.200+ ISO). 26th lowest out of 145. His K% was EXTREMELY low compared to those guys. 5th lowest out of 145. He wasn't unique though. Nomar actually walked less and struck out less, while hitting for power. Mouses Alou and Carlos Lee had similar offensive profiles. Luis Gonzalez too. Albert Belle and Tino Martinez had only slightly higher K rates. Albert Pujols sticks out as truly a generational talent, having struck out less often than Vlad, lauded for his preternatural contact skills, while hitting for significantly more power. Kind of a shame to see Pujols languish as a below average player these days.

He has 8 steals in 9 attempts.

I don't really feel that bad for Pujols because (1) he's a slam dunk HOFer anyway (2) he's exceptionally rich (3) he's won his WS and MVPs and batting titles and (4) I'm still pretty sure he was lying about his age this whole time and is actually 40. My 66 year old dad literally runs much faster than him.
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted July 22, 2016 Posted July 22, 2016 I thought we weren't allowed to get excited about prospects until they hit AA. Well considering hes the most high profile IFA we have ever signed or atleast in the last 20 years he may be a special exception.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted July 22, 2016 Posted July 22, 2016 Pujols has also really turned his season around the last month. At least he's still an above average *hitter*, which wasn't certain in May. Hilariously bad contract though, the worst in baseball.
Atothe Old-Timey Member Posted July 22, 2016 Posted July 22, 2016 Well considering hes the most high profile IFA we have ever signed or atleast in the last 20 years he may be a special exception. He's probably one of the most hyped IFA ever. Michael Ynoa territory

Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted July 22, 2016 Posted July 22, 2016 How plodding? He does have 8 SB's already he can't be that slow can he? SB in the low minors are basically meaningless. Defense is so bad that pretty much anybody can steal.

Are you assuming hes slow based on being chubby? Hes so young it wouldn't be difficult getting into great shape over the next 3 years. He could be a tremendous base runner with great instincts.
