fatcowxlive Old-Timey Member Posted July 22, 2016 Posted July 22, 2016 Saunders - Pillar - Bautista. Where does Revere go? speed off the bench -- he's doing s*** this year but has a great track record, I bet he bounces back if he comes here. And if he goes on a hot streak bump Smoak, DH Bautista and throw Revere in left. That way when the post season comes we have 3 speedsters potentially off the bench, that's great for late innings
fatcowxlive Old-Timey Member Posted July 22, 2016 Posted July 22, 2016 Guys this is a serious question from me, although it probably doesn't make any sense but hear me out: if A-Rod gets cut from the Yankees and released, would you take a shot at him as a lefty platoon at 1st with Smoak? Like I know he's doing s*** this season, but I think playing out of the media spotlight of NY and on a winning team w/ situational hitting only do you think it's fair to take a look at him? With a bench of Lake and Burns it's not like we're cutting someone big and the return might be decent if he hits like he did last year against lefties Obviously this is the kid who saw him tear s*** up when I first started watching baseball in me talking, but it's still an interesting look

That's why I said 3 speedsters off the bench. But there's obviously a bigger track record with Revere of being a good hitter and we saw how good he is up here last year. If we give up next to nothing to get him given his good performance last year and his low cost this year and he finds his groove again we're going to profit heavy

I didn't realize you were advocating for a bench with both Pompey and Revere.
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted July 22, 2016 Posted July 22, 2016 Kind of seems like overkill to me. You're very unlikely to field a lineup that has both Pompey and Zeke in it so one or the other should always be available to you as a runner if you add Pompey to the active roster.

Just give him first base. I would be pumped if he came here. He was my favourite player growing up lol

Yeah but if he already got prepped for a baseball season, there's 2 months left, it's not too far away from home and a chance to win a ring it might just be enough. Hitters ball park and protection in the lineup might allow him to rise higher on the homer list

Someone will sign him, he's going for 700 HR and that will draw people to the park. Easy way to sell tickets.

Easy way to sell tickets. I don't know the details of his contract but if he's DFA'd and released he's a free agent. He doesn't have to sign with anyone and NY would be on the hook for any guaranteed money of the contract and if he signs with another team that's just deducted what's owed to him, so he's not making extra $ or anything. Hence why I figured he'd just retire and collect.

He looks cooked and even if he's not his projections aren't great moving forward anyway. Not sure if he'd bring excitement or be a distraction to the team either and if it would even matter so I won't bother factoring that in.

L54 Old-Timey Member Posted July 22, 2016 Posted July 22, 2016 His xFIP- is only one point worse than his debut. Abreu has like a 94 wRC+ suxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Abreu's bat projects to be 16% better than league average. Stroman's xFIP- has been 15% better than league average. Hitters>pitchers. It would not be absurd of the White Sox to ask for Stroman.
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted July 22, 2016 Posted July 22, 2016 Jose Abreu suxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Abreu, much like Puig has fallen off considerable after taken the league by storm when they first entered the league (I feel like there are other examples of this too, but they aren't coming to mind). Is this a coincidence, or is it becoming a trend for Cuban hitters?
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted July 22, 2016 Posted July 22, 2016 Eaton could be a great target if he's available. Gives us some insurance for the OF next year and beyond. Can adequately cover CF if anything happens to Pillar. Having a bit of a down-year, but he could easily bounce back. Eaton is 21st in baseball in terms of WAR for positional players. He's been a stud. I can't imagine he's available.
