Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted July 2, 2016 Posted July 2, 2016 A glimpse of the lineup without EE and Bautista Jesus christ, why do people keep saying this? If they don't sign Edwin/Jose, they will be signing/trading for guys to replace them. It's not like Thole, Junior Lake, and Barney will be everyday players next year.

I'm also not sure who you think they can trade for to replace that production or with what pieces. I'm not saying I think they should re-sign one or both of them, but if they don't there's not a lot of options to bolster the 2017 lineup and it could be a rough year.

Who are they going to sign that hits anywhere close to that level?

You might not replace ALL of their offense, but we shouldn't need to. Picking up a decent DH shouldn't be too hard. Maybe Moss, who can split time at 1B or OF in a pinch. Someone like Eithier could be a trade target (who'd only have 1 year plus option left on his contract), and probably wouldn't cost a lot in trade capital.

Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted July 2, 2016 Posted July 2, 2016 I don't think there is anything on earth quite like being a fan of this goddamn franchise. The Leafs say hi.

Those are exactly the types of moves I'm talking about. First off, Jose and Edwin won't be elite for much longer. Second, the team can be improved in the bullpen/rotation/defense to offset the loss of offense. Having solid defenders at the RF/LF corners would go a long way in offsetting the loss of Edwin/Jose.

puphood Verified Member Posted July 2, 2016 Posted July 2, 2016 Is Hutch coming in tonight? Or they going to settle on Gones?
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted July 2, 2016 Posted July 2, 2016 Tellez should be good to go for 1B/DH vs RHP duties by June. Might be a little soon. I think you plan on 2018 and are happy if it's sooner. Pairing him with someone like Napoli could be interesting though I suppose. No idea how Tellez is on defense.
jiminy Verified Member Posted July 2, 2016 Posted July 2, 2016 Today the Jays demonstrated why they are not serious about winning this year. Instead of fighting tooth and nail to end Cleveland streak they handed the win to them. They could have skipped Estrada and moved up Sanchez like Cleveland did with their tomorrows starter. Absolutely disgusting display today

He's already crushing AA. June 2017 is a perfectly reasonable ETA assuming he mashes in AAA. His defense isn't great but his bat is obviously the calling card..

Absolutely disgusting display today Estrada has a bad back (he's already had to leave a few games early). They didn't want to risk losing him for an extended period by doing it, and imo it's the right call. The only real mistake may have been having Sanchez throw his BP session before the game rather than after, which basically made him unavailable.
HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted July 2, 2016 Posted July 2, 2016 Jays have had so many heartbreaking losses this year that the pain is numb now
King Old-Timey Member Posted July 2, 2016 Posted July 2, 2016 Gregor Chisholm @gregorMLB 26s26 seconds ago Hale said #BlueJays didn't want to press Estrada into action on short notice and a day early because of sore back, which has been an issue.

jiminy Verified Member Posted July 2, 2016 Posted July 2, 2016 It was a pitching duel jays responded with goins and barney. Bringing a knife to a gunfight. Team is a joke

Sanchez had already pitched a side session earlier in the day. Estrada had a sore back. Dickey just pitched the day before. I guess Happ could have gone in but they "decided against it" for whatever reason.
TheGrandslamMan Verified Member Posted July 2, 2016 Posted July 2, 2016 Ahh, it was a tough circumstance. These players are all largely paid assets, you can't really mess around by breaking free of the scheduled routine with a minutes notice. It's a shame and all, but I don't hold it against the coaching staff.
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted July 2, 2016 Posted July 2, 2016 Has anyone posted record of how many pitches the ump missed today? I was at the game with a side view - so it was difficult to tell (although the fair weather fans around me - who were calling him a ref - yelled and complained all day long). I mean it became obvious he was awful, but are there any numbers out on just how bad he was yet?

Captain Adama Old-Timey Member Posted July 2, 2016 Posted July 2, 2016 Even though they lost, I thought this game was f***ing entertaining, I've never had so much fun watching a regular season game sober.
jiminy Verified Member Posted July 2, 2016 Posted July 2, 2016 The jays constantly whining about the strikezone just reflects how weak this club is in other areas. UMPS are probably just as bad in they're missed calls to other teams. There is no umps vs Toronto conspiracy theory.

Right yet ECJF made a point in this thread to tell us this game was like watching paint dry. Inning 15? Nothing worse than a boring baseball game. This is like watching paint dry.

First six or seven innings were dull, except for the ump show. Super tense after that because of the semi-sudden death nature of extras. I still can't believe I watched it all tbh. Luckily I'm not doing long weekend stuff until tomorrow, otherwise I'd have been the guy checking Twitter for six f***in hours.
