jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted June 13, 2016 Posted June 13, 2016 You're right. Let's have Osuna pitch tonight. Floyd too. Grilli too. Chavez too. Loup too. Venditte too. I wonder if these wimps know about the stats and realize they shouldn't be gassed. Maybe we can finger paint some eyeballs onto their shoulders so their arms can have a look at the IP numbers and make the muscle fatigue and dead arm vanish. Try looking at how many pitches they've thrown--IP isn't completely reliable, as it doesn't show how many pitches thrown. Looking at the pen: Grilli unlikely to be available tonight (back-to-back days, threw 28 pitches yesterday) Chavez out (22 pitches) Venditte unavailable after throwing 33 yesterday and likely to be the corresponding move to AAA for Diamond. Osuna has not pitched Saturday and Sunday (likely rest) Based on this, the pen is down to Osuna, Biagini, Loup, Storen, Floyd tonight.. hence why the Jays are bringing up Diamond to be insurance in case Dickey or Stroman struggle.
Governator Community Moderator Posted June 13, 2016 Posted June 13, 2016 Let's just hope we're up 16-0 against the Phillies and Gibbons can pitch instead. Or Thole.

I already brought up pitches thrown. And yeah, this makes sense. I have no idea what BBBB thinks he's proving against the insurance of Diamond's potential mid-relief innings. If Dickey or Stro come out early over the next two days, then we're looking at about 6 innings of pen in a game. Really not worth burning through already tired arms when another Baltimore series is coming up this weekend.

How many with which arm though? I've always wondered if he's gotten to the point where one arm is unavailable - but the other is still fresh....

Could you use him for two straight days as a LH and then bring him back for a third only as a RH? Obviously there's more to pitching than the arms, but the ability to throw effectively with both has got to make recovery extra quirky for Venditte. Anyone have any insights?

Yea it's a good question but I think his advantage is not being a loogy or a roogy, I don't think he's good enough to be either. However, if a team has L/R/L order to negate specialists (like a John Farrel line up) I think he's a good option to have available.

Stop the B.s If our Starters have pitch the most innings and most innings per start in the majors, How can the Whole Bullpen be Overused and Taxed!!! And if Loup is only good for one out then send him down to the minors and get Leblanc who can go more innings up as well !!! Win now!!!

Diamond isn't your thing but I still don't see how you're not appreciating that the pen is taxed because other pens have thrown more IP. Those pens could be equally taxed or have used way more bodies to get those innings. Or maybe the Jays' arms are used at a more frequent rate. O's got a few innings out of Worley and McFarland this weekend. So -- yeah, more innings but maybe fewer bodies used. I'm just not seeing how you can use a few stats to suggest that current BP arms being taxed is absurd. If IP is the main factor, how could any sort of mismanagement over-tax them? Just to end this, which I should have done before: Last seven games: Biagini: 1.1+ IP, 42 pitches, 14 batters Loup: .2+IP, 13 pitches, 3 batters Floyd: 2.2 IP, 50 pitches, 14 batters Grilli: 4 IP, 91 pitches, 19 batters Osuna: 4.2 IP, 65 pitches, 17 batters Chavez: 3 IP, 54 pitches, 10 batters Storen: 3 IP, 40 pitches, 14 batters Venditte: 2 IP, 53 pitches, 8 batters Grilli pitched in 3 games against the O's, Osuna has been stated to need time, Floyd is clearly not 100%. That's over two full games and more than 400 pitches by the pen this week dating back to the Tigers blowout. The last four series might have been ~32 IP, but just the last seven games make up over 21 of those innings (including s*** outings where a guy throws a bunch of pitches but records no outs). Stop talking about the season as a whole with regards to innings pitched on the BP. The BP is lucky it hasn't had to be used as much as others, yes. In fact without our starters we'd be in the basement in the standings but it doesn't mean you don't make moves to keep fresh arms at the back end of your bullpen... that's common sense for all ball clubs. When we say it's gassed, it means a move has to be made to provide added depth. That's all.

Gov I am not arguing making moves but mismanagement has had a bigger effect on the pen, and has multiplied the problem!!! Not really Gibby's fault I lay more blame on the Rookie GM!!! AA would have had a Shuttle bus running back and forth from Buffalo by now!! Lack of moves is compounding things and lack of more then one batter and one inning arms is! Why would inning pitched to date not be more effect.... But SSS is in this case! Wow really!
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted June 13, 2016 Posted June 13, 2016 why are people engaging with BBBB??? shakes head.

A taxed BP arm can be as little as 2 innings of work or back to back games, but whatever I'm over it.

Did you just run two miles? Well that's only 15% of your exercise for the week. No you don't get a breather. No you don't get water. SSS.
jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted June 13, 2016 Posted June 13, 2016 Just to let you know, I use Roster Resource to find out about bullpen usage in recent days.. that's how I got the numbers.
Horses Fart Old-Timey Member Posted June 13, 2016 Posted June 13, 2016 Thought Franklin was only suppose to be out a couple weeks.
IBTrini Verified Member Posted June 13, 2016 Posted June 13, 2016 I may be wrong here but the stats for innings pitched etc does not included pitches thrown in the BP. With close games being played recently, especially after losing the lead, no one tracks how many pitches the BP is throwing to get them ready in case they are going to called upon. They could be throwing then sitting and then getting back up again without ever coming on the field.
RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted June 14, 2016 Posted June 14, 2016 Time to go back to the minors
