THANOS Old-Timey Member Posted June 1, 2016 Posted June 1, 2016 (edited) If we got one for Ryan Goins LOL, we sure as hell deserve one for our resident Big Purple Dinosaur. SSS with a .321/.352/.452 slash line and a whopping .373 BABIP in 88 PA says no, but he sure has been fun to watch, and, tonight, at least, he looked very legit at Short. Thoughts? jays4life19 Old-Timey Member Posted June 1, 2016 Posted June 1, 2016 He can stick on the bench for sure.
Lil Looper Verified Member Posted June 1, 2016 Posted June 1, 2016 Barney > Goins He had a 5 WAR season a couple years back hes a great bench piece and because tulo/travis will likely never see the field together he can fill in and provide most likely 1-2WAR

Lil Looper Verified Member Posted June 1, 2016 Posted June 1, 2016 Pardon? 2012 he had 4.6 WAR http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/b/barneda01.shtml
THANOS Old-Timey Member Posted June 1, 2016 Author Posted June 1, 2016 Pardon? 2.4 WAR is his highest lol. I was wondering where he pulled that from? Maybe he fangraphed Tulo instead?
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted June 1, 2016 Posted June 1, 2016 2.4 WAR is his highest lol. I was wondering where he pulled that from? Maybe he fangraphed Tulo instead? He's going by bWAR not fWAR.

Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted June 1, 2016 Posted June 1, 2016 Barney is an ideal bench player. Why did this thread need to happen. Can we not just enjoy s*** while it lasts. Nobody thinks Barney is going to hit like this all year. He plays defense and has good at-bats. This all anyone can ask from him.
BigBulgeBlueBird Verified Member Posted June 1, 2016 Posted June 1, 2016 Barwins played good for us. But that BABIP will fall off eventually and Goins will go back to that .220 hitter we all know and love.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted June 1, 2016 Posted June 1, 2016 Good utility IF. Let's not get carried away. The Jays should find a taker for Tulo any chance they get, but Barney is not the answer at short or 2B. As a bench player? Ideal.
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted June 1, 2016 Posted June 1, 2016 bWAR is frowned upon these neck of the internet message boards. Yeah WAR is basically assumed to be fWAR. If you want to quote bWAR, you can't just say WAR without confusing people. In any case, I agree with his basic point. Barney is essentially the player Goins is trying to become. Might as well go with established Barney over proto Barney.
Deadpool Old-Timey Member Posted June 1, 2016 Posted June 1, 2016 I just found out that he has two middle names, and one of them is Kunane. I really hope he sticks for that reason alone.

bones10 Old-Timey Member Posted June 1, 2016 Posted June 1, 2016 he can stick his ass to the bench when tulo gets back. hes ight tho, will prob finish the year better than that scrub tulo
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted June 1, 2016 Posted June 1, 2016 How much control, if any, do we have on Barney?
Deadpool Old-Timey Member Posted June 1, 2016 Posted June 1, 2016 How much control, if any, do we have on Barney? According to Rotoworld, he's a free agent at the end of this season.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted June 1, 2016 Posted June 1, 2016 According to Rotoworld, he's a free agent at the end of this season. According to Cot's he had 4.085 years of service time entering this year. If he gets a full year this year that would mean he's got one more year of arbitration I believe.

Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted June 1, 2016 Posted June 1, 2016 Why does bWAR suck a bag of dicks?
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted June 1, 2016 Posted June 1, 2016 Why does bWAR suck a bag of dicks? They use a similar calculation method, but use different stats in their calcs. http://www.fangraphs.com/library/war/differences-fwar-rwar/ But theyre not so radically different that it's apples to oranges. bwar uses RA9 for pitchers rather than FIP and different defense and baserunning for hitters.
Cyborg Verified Member Posted June 1, 2016 Posted June 1, 2016 Why does bWAR suck a bag of dicks? DRS vs. UZR and OPS+ vs. wRC+.
