He is hitting the ball a lot better, he's actually over >100 wRC+ for the month of May so he certainly might build up some trade value still by the deadline.

Doesn't he have a no trade clause in place after being moved to us?

He has a NTC, but I'm sure he'd be amenable to being moved to certain approved teams.

The road to him having actual value is a long one, but it would be nice if he could bring the numbers to a place where his entire contract could be moved for a fringe minor leaguer or something.

Very meh on this. I don't think getting him to waive his no trade should be treated like it's a mere formality. Dude was pissed when the Rockies traded him and since there's no shortstop in place and his value is pretty low, it just seems pointless to even discuss it with him. Might as well ride the bounce back, keep eating salary and revisit this down the line. The less money left on the deal, the more movable he is anyways and if you combine that with an uptick in performance he becomes a positive asset.

I don't think we can expect a bounce back big enough to give him actual trade value though. 2.7 fWAR over 719 PA since the surgery, and the K-rate is up 3% this year after going up 6% last year. If, say, the team is a few games under 0.500 at the deadline and the Mets or Yankees indicate that they're willing to take on the contract, I think you have to try to make it happen. If he continues at a ~2-win pace, there's no way we'd want the team to give him 4/80 as a free agent going into 2017, so I don't see why we wouldn't want them to shed the deal if they're not a WS contender.

Trade Bautista, Edwin, Dickey, Storen, Cecil, Chavez, Saunders, Smoak for prospects at the trade deadline, sign Brandon Moss and Josh Reddick in the offseason. Hope Tulo and Martin bounce back.

It's funny that people think this cast is going to bring in anything of value in a deadline trade outside of JB and maybe EE...anything better than Tirado. Particularly in a scenario where the Jays are out of contention, these guys will have to underperform.

I wonder what Saunders and Smoak would want to re-sign? They could also be QO candidates if they keep it up.

Signing one or both midseason might not be a bad idea.

I feel like you could get Smoak right now on a 2/10 guarantee, and I'd probably do it.

Same. I wonder if Saunders could be had at a discount as well. Would he do a 2 for 20 extension?

His net cost is $30mm over Reyes plus the prospects we gave up. I still think he has a chance to be worth more than the incremental cost.

Worth riding this out vs what we would get back, if he waived his NTC, which nobody really knows the answer to.

Would Saunders and Smoak perform at the same level without the protection of Edwin and Jose in the lineup? The answer here is no.

It's clearly something those pushing for them to be re-signed didn't think of. QO for Smoak/Saunders? Uhm...no.

So you'd give Saunders and Smoak a QO. I think that qualifies you as the hands down worst poster of the year. Congrats mango!

Saunders is a legit QO candidate if he keeps it up.
