burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted May 20, 2016 Posted May 20, 2016 Jimmy Paredes' doesn't get paid to field. He gets paid for the extra base hits. Can we please stop lol. Not funny anymore.
metafour Verified Member Posted May 20, 2016 Posted May 20, 2016 I see where you're coming from, but the potential risk in giving Mauer a free base to pitch to Sano is huge. Sano may have looked bad today, but he could have just as easily had a mammoth homerun and no one would be surprised. We both know who out of those two guys we would prefer making good contact, and that's not Mauer. I think you're giving Sano too much credit. He's a very exciting young power hitter, but he's got holes in his swing and a savvy pitcher (like Estrada) can work him. Obviously you risk giving up a home run, but a pitcher pitching at Estrada's level right now should not be afraid of that outcome going against a hitter who came into today's game batting .232 with a 34% strikeout rate. Sano is making contact on just 66.7% of his attempts this season, with a z-contact rate of 75.5%. Mauer? Not only is he considerably harder to strike out, but his ability to make contact is through the roof: 87.3% overall, and 90.6% z-contact. In that situation, I fear Mauer hitting a single much more than I fear Sano hitting a HR. Mauer's entire approach is basically revolved around taking what the pitcher gives him and dumping singles all over the field; I feel that this works much better against Estrada's pitching style than a wild-swinger like Sano who can be abused. Estrada's tricks work against a lot of hitters, a guy like Mauer to me is simply too robotic at the plate to fool.
nextyear Verified Member Posted May 20, 2016 Posted May 20, 2016 lol Tulo seems so pissed off when he does these interviews. I wonder if Tulowitzki is becoming disinterested with baseball. At this point he might just be doing it for the big contract and is having a tough time getting motivated day after day.

He still looks like he loves playing baseball, I think he's one of the most dedicated players in the league and money really doesn't have much effect on him. He just looks like he really hates doing media interviews haha.

He's just a big introvert and he's not really high energy or anything. The guy barely ever talks. But I agree with you I think he takes baseball really seriously. He's really competitive.

Interesting insight. I sometimes wonder about players and how they can play a 162 game season and have a private family life also. In Tulowitzki's case it must also be tough staying physically fit and coming back from injuries.

That's sick man, where did you bump into him in Vegas? And was it during the offseason?
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted May 20, 2016 Posted May 20, 2016 That's sick man, where did you bump into him in Vegas? And was it during the offseason? Yeah it was the offseason at the shops at Caesar's Palace. He was walking around wearing a white Adidas (or maybe Puma?) tracksuit with a white hat and shoes. lol I didn't say anything to him then. I did talk to him at a bar in Denver once though. He was super lowkey and had a big group of friends. None of them said much of ANYTHING the whole time they were there.
Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted May 20, 2016 Posted May 20, 2016 "Blue Jays leave the boyses loaded." Have another f***ing drink, Buck.
Deadpool Old-Timey Member Posted May 20, 2016 Posted May 20, 2016 You missed quite the performance from Joe West. Oh, I don't doubt it. Happy that we won, but also happy that I was out at a bar with friends for most of it
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted May 20, 2016 Posted May 20, 2016 Oh, I don't doubt it. Happy that we won, but also happy that I was out at a bar with friends for most of it Yeah that was not an enjoyable game to watch/listen to.

nextyear Verified Member Posted May 20, 2016 Posted May 20, 2016 Woah woah woah, Parades is faster than EE lol but I see your point This is a serious question. I barely remember Paredes on the Orioles, but checking his stats on fangraphs - http://www.fangraphs.com/statss.aspx?playerid=5481&position=3B/DH/OF ; I see that he has 19 stolen bases in 251 games in the MLB over 5 years, and in 2012 with the Houston Astro's AAA team he had 37 stolen bases in 124 games. Question: does Paredes have a bit of speed on the bases?

Question: does Paredes have a bit of speed on the bases? Yes he isn't a bad baserunner. Not a good base stealer but there is a reason Hale didn't pinch run for him with Goins. He was above average last year. Fangraphs had him at 2.2 BsR in limited playing time which would have put him in the Top 50 if he had qualified and that was despite going only 4 for 8 on steals.
nextyear Verified Member Posted May 20, 2016 Posted May 20, 2016 Paredes runs as fast as a cheeto I have never seen a Cheeto run, they taste good though.

Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted May 20, 2016 Posted May 20, 2016 Terminator would tell you Paredes tastes good as well. I wouldn't go that far but when we do the Hottest Jays again he'll definitely be a threat to crack the Top 5.
