L54 Old-Timey Member Posted May 3, 2016 Posted May 3, 2016 Man I can't believe nobody is taking into consideration Barney has a Gold Glove and Goins does not.

intrigid Verified Member Posted May 3, 2016 Posted May 3, 2016 Is it possible to put Barney on retractable waivers? If so then that might be plan A, optioning Goins to AAA would be plan B.
RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted May 3, 2016 Posted May 3, 2016 Aren't retractable waivers only post grade deadline Barney would never make it through actual waivers

KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted May 3, 2016 Posted May 3, 2016 There's just no reason to even contemplate the implications of putting Barney on waivers when you know you can simply demote Goins.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted May 3, 2016 Posted May 3, 2016 Goins can go to AAA and battle it out with Alexi Casilla for playing time.
Atothe Old-Timey Member Posted May 3, 2016 Posted May 3, 2016 Goins is only useful in that he has options, can play the middle infield and makes no money

Wasn't sure about the trade deadline thing. Maybe they would rather preserve goins' option. I dunno, I'm just trying to think like gibbons.

I dunno, I'm just trying to think like gibbons. I think it's one thing for Gibbons to lobby to keep a player that's out of options but for him to advocate for a player who has them against a similar (if not superior) player who doesn't wouldn't wash with the front office. No need to overthink this.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted May 3, 2016 Posted May 3, 2016 Goins on the bench today. Barney starting.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted May 3, 2016 Posted May 3, 2016 Goins on the bench today. Barney starting. Martin Perez, makes sense.
gruber92 Old-Timey Member Posted May 3, 2016 Posted May 3, 2016 He was not. And he's been worth -0.8 fWAR in games that didn't happen in 2015. Why would you exclude the fact that he was a 1.5 WAR player last year? He's obviously struggling so far this year, but to take away and exclude a 1.5 WAR year from his resume is f***ing ridiculous. Go back to the Rays board dipshit.
AdamGreenwood Old-Timey Member Posted May 3, 2016 Author Posted May 3, 2016 Also, Bryce Harper needs to get sent down until he learns how to play the game right. Jose Bautista too.
gruber92 Old-Timey Member Posted May 3, 2016 Posted May 3, 2016 Hey everyone.. GOINS IS STRUGGLING!! If Goins doesn't rebound by the time Travis is back, then I totally agree with sending him down to Buffalo since he has options and Barney does not. Barney is a nice utility infielder and it would be a shame to lose him over something like this. Goins is a 90 minute drive away in case someone gets injured regardless and the demotion may actually help his career in the long run. If he does rebound nicely in the next month, you know he's going to be the one who stays.

No need to overthink this. You guys are right. I just kind of secretly want Goins around to see Gruber win and continue to win against the "hive". It's compelling to see the underdog win, even if the underdog is in the form of someone who reminds me of a raging Scott Steiner (a super easy to piss off and barely coherent muscle-bound roid head for non-wrestling fans). Also I'm pretty sure Spanky is biased because I recall he has a Goings-fail bet going on. Though at this pace it's looking pretty good no matter which level of baseball Goins plays for the remainder of 2016.
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted May 3, 2016 Posted May 3, 2016 Martin Perez, makes sense. It didn't seem to make sense last week - and the "old school" maroons were spouting off about how Goins is the everyday guy and you have to ride your everyday players. Hopefully Gibby has given into the reality that these 2 should be in a strict platoon.
gruber92 Old-Timey Member Posted May 3, 2016 Posted May 3, 2016 Thank you for gracing us with your opinion. At least I have one that isn't accompanied or attached with advanced stats. Your just a f***ing typical casual without access and the understanding of metrics. Just another advanced stat squirrel who pretends to know the game. Try showing up in a GDT sometimes and contribute some insight, instead of lurking through it looking and waiting to make some smart sarcastic remark on somebody's opinion or comments.

Hopefully Gibby has given into the reality that these 2 should be in a strict platoon. What's with that old school s***...Bobby Cox was a master of the platoons (Buck/Whitt, Mulliniks/Iorg) in the 80's which qualifies as old school to me. So if those maroons are spouting off, their nonsense isn't even historically accurate. I should hope Buck isn't one of them. It's thanks to platooning that allowed him to get more playing time than he deserved over a clearly superior player.

Spanky should be hoping he stays up with the team.. Lol

Eh, I honestly think Spanky would rather lose the money if it means Goins has a good year for his favourite team. It's like he wins with either outcome.
