Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted April 20, 2016 Posted April 20, 2016 Stroman isn't as good as I thought he would be. If this continues then he's looking like a 3rd/4th starter SSS, he's young, missed most of last season, etc too many glass half empty guys here
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted April 20, 2016 Posted April 20, 2016 Chicks dig the strikeout, not the ground ball.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted April 20, 2016 Posted April 20, 2016 Stroman isn't as good as I thought he would be. If this continues then he's looking like a 3rd/4th starter His 4 starts at the end of last season and his postseason performance definitely gave many people the perception that Stroman was an ace in the making, while in reality his ceiling is more of a No. 2 starter.

Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted April 21, 2016 Posted April 21, 2016 What part of "self-admitted philosophy change" do you not get? What part of the below do you not get? "Isn't as good as I thought he would be" based on 4 starts...... come on. Stroman isn't as good as I thought he would be. If this continues then he's looking like a 3rd/4th starter
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted April 21, 2016 Posted April 21, 2016 What part of the below do you not get? "Isn't as good as I thought he would be" based on 4 starts...... come on. The part where you extrapolated his individual statement in order to comment on everyone else?
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted May 18, 2016 Posted May 18, 2016 His curve/slurve he threw in 2014 was nasty. I don't see that anymore. I also don't see any cutter in 2014 and I'm wondering if he should look to decrease the number of pitches he throws (less is more)....simplify. 4 seamer, 2 seamer, slider, curve and the odd change.
baloojayz Verified Member Posted May 18, 2016 Posted May 18, 2016 I think Stro is really cracking under the pressure. His pregame/before inning ritual is getting a little ridiculous
Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted May 18, 2016 Posted May 18, 2016 Isn't Happ pitching more to contact over the past year or so? I read that he's gone way more to his 2-seamer (makes sense based on the parks in Pit and Tor). Seems to be working out really well for him (last start notwithstanding). I think this is a case by case thing. You don't like handicapping someone with electric stuff who can get guys to swing and miss regularly...but on the other hand, what do the results say?

Happ was striking out over 9+ per 9 in Pittsburgh last year. Something is different this year - and it's a bad difference.
BigCecil Old-Timey Member Posted May 18, 2016 Posted May 18, 2016 Results say pitch to strikeout. 13 hits over 5 with 2k's aren't the results I'm looking for. Stro has come out of a couple starts with bases loaded and against LAD after giving up 3 straight hard hit liners. His approach almost always eventually starts to get hit hard or is subject to BABIP issues as GB's find their way through. Unfortunately our D hasn't been as good as I thought it would be yet and balls in play don't always bring us good results.

Maahfaace Verified Member Posted May 18, 2016 Posted May 18, 2016 wasnt he pitching to a lot more lefties in the NL last year? Plus you can pretty much add 1.5 k's per start from facing the opposing teams pitcher usually at least twice (Thor excluded)
Cyborg Verified Member Posted May 18, 2016 Posted May 18, 2016 Plus you can pretty much add 1.5 k's per start from facing the opposing teams pitcher usually at least twice (Thor excluded) They dont strike out that much and Thor actually strikes out a ton for a pitcher.
