Just under 12 hours until first pitch and I'm very excited for the home opener. Anyone else a little disappointed David Price won't be pitching? It looks like he's going to be pushed buck until Monday vs. Baltimore because Boston/Cleveland got rained out again yesterday.

If the team had just steamrolled TB, I'd feel pretty good about facing Price but given that the team is only at .500 right now, I'm pretty o.k. with getting an easier matchup. All the games have been tight so far and I think both the team and the fanbase would really enjoy an offensive beat down.

John Farrell is a moron, so we shouldn't be surprised. What process would lead you to not start Price against arguably the next best team in the division and instead save him for the destined bottom feeders? Guy's a f***ing idiot. Good for us, though.

It's April and it's a long season. I don't like Farrell more than the next guy but I don't really see what's so egregious about this.

Wins are important. Toronto is good. Baltimore sucks. Red Sox are likely to beat Baltimore at any given time. Closer to a coin flip with the Jays. David Price is good at throwing baseballs. David Price would increase odds of beating team you're directly competing against.

Yeah I get that but that doesn't mean there isn't a benefit to keeping the pitchers on their regular turn. It's a less tangible benefit but that doesn't mean you can just blanketly assume it's not there.

Why would anyone ever be disappointed about missing Price's start?

I do sort of hope he gets a start in Toronto and hopefully fans will give him a nice ovation

(I think only a few clueless idiots will boo him)

Monday is the home opener in Fenway. I know it "shouldn't" matter - but having your big FA ace start that game is probably viewed as a massive positive for the Red Sox.

Thank god Price wasn't starting tonight as there will probably be 45,000 clueless, drunk idiots there.

Actually great point yes LOL

David Price has destroyed us in the past, and he already manhandled our line-up in his only start with Detroit against us last year. Relieved.

Quit arguing with well thought out counter points. Just say "thank you John".

I have a feeling David Price doesn't own us as much this year. It will be a benefit to our hitters having played with him. Though he is likely good enough, that you can know what's coming, and still not hit it.

Hope we discover a way to effectively pitch to Mookie Betts this series. Have we tried high fastballs?

Mookie Betts can hit pretty much any pitch. He has the batspeed to catch up to high heat with ease.

This doesn't make any sense at all. There is no extra value to be had by Price facing Toronto instead of Baltimore, it all evens out. Not to mention the Jays are only theoritically marginally better than the Orioles

When the back end of your rotation consists of Joe Kelly and Steven Wright, any opportunity to skip them is the right way to go.

I believe the pre-season projections had the Jays and Orioles separated by about 4 games, what other word would you use than marginally?

edit: turns out it was 6 games, 77.5 vs 83.5, point still stands perfectly because it's not like we're talking about the difference between a 70 win team and a 90 win team. With them off to a 3-0 start, the projected finish has the Jays and Orioles finishing only 4 games apart.

I just realized that every Boston series this year is a weekend series. Not a single tues, wed, or thurs game and only one Monday game. Six games apiece on fri, sat, sun.

Well that's cool but my point isn't so much that you're wrong but rather that this isn't really the big indictment of Farrell that you're making it out to be.

He kind of shut us down last time we faced him, but let's hope it was just an aberration and he didn't "figure something out".

I expect good things out of Porcello this year. September he made more changes, like going back to his sinker more often and the results showed.

No clue what to expect out of Kelly, though.

There's another good point right there

Why wouldn't you want to skip one of your s*** starters and let Price/f***holtz/Porcello go on regular rest anyway??

When there's that massive of a gap in SP quality...
