Laika Community Moderator Posted April 12, 2016 Author Posted April 12, 2016 His change is a work in progress. But the good thing is that apparently him and STRO are good friends and he's been helping sanchez out as much as he can. The thing for me is that Sanchez throw strikes consistently with his fastball and that he mixes in his curve and change quite a bit more. I've seen him hit hard a few times simply because he's throwing that fastball way too often. But I've chirped it over and over again that when Aaron keeps his walk rate down, his stuff is more than good enough to keep his team I games and throw quality starts. But what I'm aching to see is the confidence and hopefully that comes with consistency with his secondary pitches. I'm one of the few here who thinks he has the ceiling to be an ace and a full year experience with STRO by his side can go a long way to giving him the foundation he needs to start down that road. He's 23 and if he develops the way I think he's going to, the combo of him STRO and Estrada can be pretty f***ing devastating, especially come playoff time. Just call him Stroman you dink

Laika Community Moderator Posted April 12, 2016 Author Posted April 12, 2016 Sanchez is WILD tonight. Not the same dude! Looking forward to seeing his updated Steamer projection after he walks 8
Laika Community Moderator Posted April 12, 2016 Author Posted April 12, 2016 He can't even throw it in the general vicinity of his shortstop, lol. There's the 10th bounced curveball.

Laika Community Moderator Posted April 12, 2016 Author Posted April 12, 2016 I don't understand why he's going back to the 12-6. I doubt it's a conscious decision. He probably just doesn't have a consistent release point, or something like that.
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted April 12, 2016 Posted April 12, 2016 I doubt it's a conscious decision. He probably just doesn't have a consistent release point, or something like that. I don't buy that. You need to do more than have a consistent release point or whatever it is that you're selling.

How many truly unique and good looking curveballs did we really see against Tampa, aside from the strikeout pitch to Longoria? Maybe it was more fluke than anything. Need to wait and see. It's possible that he's tried to segregate the thing into two pitches - 12-6 against lefties and slurve against righties? They'll whip out the CH now I think.
Laika Community Moderator Posted April 13, 2016 Author Posted April 13, 2016 Still haven't learned much this start. So far it's a step back if it's anything. No noticeable CH yet; CB looks like the old useless rainbow most of the time; command of the FB has been come and go.

Doesn't have his best stuff, still getting the job done. Whether he becomes an ace or not is all left to be learned.

How did you get off my ignore list, anyway? Message board elves f***ing around again?

There's still a lot of question marks, neither the curveball nor the changeup is a consistent swing and a miss pitch nor does he have the command to throw them for called strikes.

Laika Community Moderator Posted April 13, 2016 Author Posted April 13, 2016 Only 7 whiffs tonight. Not good enough. He was basically old Sanchie + some BABIP luck.

That's not entirely fair when the ump had a strike zone you couldn't s*** through if you forced your butt against it for the first half of the game. you can't exactly pitch to the edge when the ump is an imbecile.

Cyborg Verified Member Posted April 13, 2016 Posted April 13, 2016 I actually thought this start was very encouraging considering it was against 7 LHBs and a lineup that was very good against RHP last year. Rays lineup was mostly LHB as well.
BTS Community Moderator Posted April 13, 2016 Posted April 13, 2016 Rays lineup was mostly LHB as well. The Rays LHH suck a big bag of dicks though.
Cyborg Verified Member Posted April 13, 2016 Posted April 13, 2016 Sanchie greatly under-utilized the change today. Only threw 7 of them and got 2 whiffs. Swing rate on curves was pretty bad too. No idea why he was using it over the change.
