Cyborg Verified Member Posted April 7, 2016 Posted April 7, 2016 Asked my GF about his comments. She thinks it was pretty bad, but she already has a prejudice against Gibby and hates him.
Gen.Disarray Old-Timey Member Posted April 7, 2016 Posted April 7, 2016 I think the reactions to Gibby's dress comments have been way overboard. His comments weren't really sexist. He thought the call that ended the game was ridiculous and so he came up with some other ridiculous s*** on the spot to mock the situation. Specifically, wearing a dress to a baseball game, which would be objectively ridiculous for numerous reasons like scraped up legs and what not. I mean women play baseball and they don't do it in dresses because again, objectively ridiculous. Like wearing tap shoes in a construction site or whatever. Gibby never mentioned gender. His comments aren't any worse than him saying "Maybe tomorrow we'll come out wearing rollerblades!". It's not right for people to just assume because he said the word "dress" that he's talking about women. Quite frankly that's insentitive and discriminatory to men who wear dresses. The only people being sexist here are the ones accusing Gibby of sexism. Anyone offended by this needs to get off their high horse and take a look in the mirror at their closed minded, sexist, freakin face. The ironing is delicious. We don't know what's going on inside his head (Pillar at lead off?), but he's being painted as bad guy and it kinda sucks. Can't argue with him when he says people need to lighten up. Now if he had said "Maybe tomorrow we'll come out wearing dresses like a bunch of girls.", then whatever, string him up I guess. We should all be offended by legit discrimination but I don't think that's what this was. The outrage here comes from people being unable, or unwilling to think critically for a second. It's like people are going out of their way to be upset about this. It isn't as bad as the Yunel eye black thing or KC playing "American Woman" during Synder's warm up. Though I guess the warm up song thing could have been a coincidence.

Everyone who is offended so easily needs to watch this: What Gibbons said was stupid, not because it was offensive, but because SJWs will create unnecessary drama, which is exactly what is happening.

glory Old-Timey Member Posted April 7, 2016 Posted April 7, 2016 The Gibbons hate here is bringing a tear down my cheek. I love it. This is the team's last chance at the playoffs with this particular group (Donaldson/Bats/EE/Tulo/etc), and they are going out with Gibbons. It's crazy. I guess if Yost and Farrell can win championships, then the Jays can win with Wobbles, but man I cannot wait until the Jays have a forward thinking manager. A saber front office with this clown who goes by his own hunches and bias rather than realizing who his best players are some times is getting tired.
closetjaysfan Verified Member Posted April 7, 2016 Posted April 7, 2016 Im starting to wonder how helpful it is to have 3 pitchers (Storen, Cecil and Osuna) that are only going to be used for an inning at a time. I get the importance of set-up men but this has the makings of disaster if we are going to see game 4 of the Rays series get repeated consistently. Furthermore, Loup coming back is just going to add another situational pitcher. Is it not possible to give these guys 2 innings of work if we need it? **- note that this comment doesnt directly address the problem of game 4 in that Floyd should have stayed in.

dineke Old-Timey Member Posted April 8, 2016 Posted April 8, 2016 Managers make barely any difference so I'm not worked up over Gibby. Shapiro obviously agrees since he kept gibby on and hired Eric Wedge back in 2002. If they do fire gibby they'll probably hire another s*** tactical manager which make up 99% of the manager pool.

Dineke speaks the truth. No matter how terrible Gibby's decisions are (and I do think they're terrible), he should not be fired unless or until he loses the clubhouse.

Andrew Stoeten and Drew Fairservice were getting all up on their SJW soap boxes today to condem Gibby. Then someone pointed out they (maybe just Stoeten) used to call Steven Drew, Nancy Drew.... You know, as to say, you are a f***ing woman!! It was pretty funny. All Stoeten could do was deny a little and try and insult himself out of the situation.

JFD Old-Timey Member Posted April 8, 2016 Posted April 8, 2016 Its the 4th game of the season and people are already talking about hiring a new manager after this season. I see no problem with Gibby and i don't see him getting fired. After bringing in Leon everyone has their pitchforks out. If Gibby gets fired their is a very good chance Wedge is manager, he was manager with the Indians when Shapiro was there. f*** Wedge would be a nightmare. This goes back to last year. remember the playoffs?
500LevelSTH Verified Member Posted April 8, 2016 Posted April 8, 2016 If we fire Gibby you know that we will hire Wedge right? He was hired as a advisor in the organization. He is 100000x worse than Gibby, and Gibby isn't even that bad. Everyone can relax because Leon is gone to Buffalo when Estrada comes back. Gibby > Wedge Wedge will never manage the jays, bud black is odds on fav just waiting for the call in LA. Wedge has personal issues.
