Totally agree!!!!

Managers are so fuvking quick to ask for a review it has the umpires on edge along with NY office. The rule is defined as not a reviewable play and the umps should have intervened and said NO.

I think that is what Gibby was arguing pointing at the umps saying you should not have reviewed it.

I interpret it as not reviewable.

Interference for the Purpose of Breaking Up a Double Play. An Umpire's determination under Official Baseball Rule 6.01(j).

NOTE: Other than for purposes of determining whether the runner interfered with a fielder within the meaning of Rule 6.01(j), whether a base runner willfully or deliberately interfered with a fielder with the intent to break up a double play, within the meaning of Rule 6.01(a)(6) or (7), shall not be reviewable.

Example 1. While running to second base, a runner intentionally collides with the second baseman, who is attempting to field a ground ball between the bases. Because whether the runner engaged in a bona fide slide is not at issue, whether the umpire determines there was interference is not reviewable

That should be enough to protest game, no?

Seriously, this sets such a horrible precedent too.

Mark my words, we will see middle infielders diving and flopping like soccer players to draw cheap interference calls on that rule.

no, that's what we have replays for, flopping can be punished in real time. If a team feels like the infielder faked the contact they can simply ask for a replay. They don't have that in Soccer and flopping is only enforced after the game in Basketball, not in realtime.

Nah. The slide was perfect. Where Bautista went wrong was making contact after the slide by reaching back and grabbing his leg.

no true, i can remember a couple of double plays that went in our favor because of interference calls before the Utley/Tejada play. Baseball has teightened up the contact rules on slides for a couple of years now. and they've been enforced fairly strictly.

If you notice Bautista didn't protest in any way when teh call was made, he knew he f***ed up.

You have any examples in mind? Not saying your wrong, but I don't remember any similar plays being turned over last season.

I would love for the league just say "you have one hour to say whatever you want Jose, no fines no suspensions" his rant would be so entertaining.

While I get annoyed at his constant attitude towards the umpires possibly costing the team, I would really love at some point for this to happen and for him to just go off on them, because we all know how full of ******** they can be sometimes.

Can't think of any specific but i'm really sure it happened, where a double play was assumed due to interference.

So....u can review one play( illegal slide)...and if u see something else (interference)during that review then it's also can be changed??

Like protesting will do anything.

4.19 PROTESTING GAMES. Each league shall adopt rules governing procedure for protesting a game, when a manager claims that an umpire's decision is in violation of these rules. No protest shall ever be permitted on judgment decisions by the umpire. In all protested games, the decision of the League President shall be final. Even if it is held that the protested decision violated the rules, no replay of the game will be ordered unless in the opinion of the League President the violation adversely affected the protesting team's chances of winning the game. Whenever a manager protests a game because of alleged misapplication of the rules the protest will not be recognized unless the umpires are notified at the time the play under protest occurs and before the next pitch is made or a runner is retired. A protest arising on a game ending play may be filed until 12 noon the following day with the League Office.

It would never be overturned but nothing to lose anyways.

This might be worthwhile to do, we might actually get something out of this, although I doubt it. Does anyone know where we can see the official ruling on an overturned play? Maybe they called him out on something else

The issue is though that that minor interference was assumed to be legal under the new rule

Grabbing the leg of the second baseman after sliding through the base while Bautista is behind the 2nd baseman is illegal.

Its not reviewable by the managers but the umpires can do it if flopping did become more of an issue, that's what happened today right? And there will probably be a rule change anyways giving managers that right too if there was a real trend towards flopping.

NON f***ING REVIEWABLE ughhhhhhh

Twenty seconds to overturn I've never seen quicker

That's the funny thing

Someone should post this on bluejays.com on the message board so the players can see it as well and bring it to Gibby's attention.

Again just not a reviewable call!!!
