Zeke is serviceable and the others had options.

Zeke is serviceable in the sense that he's healthy and can do a better job than, say, you or I could if a team is in dire need of OF help with nobody in house who has s chance to be even replacement level. He's not a player you keep on an MLB roster though. You can find a Carrera on the scrap heap at will. I suspect he'll soon be discarded to said scrap heap, never to be heard from again.

hopefully Saunders seizes the opportunity and puts the leadoff issue to rest ...

(except against tough lefties ... and until at least Travis is ready to roll.)

Jay Bruce is actually off to a pretty nice start

i'm not anti-Shapiro but you would've traded Saunders plus something for Bruce? ... done the Hendriks' deal? ... given Smoak $4M?

At the time I thought the Hendriks and Revere trades were pretty curious, and I wasn't getting worked up about a trade that didn't happen. I think there was a version of a Bruce/Saunders trade that made sense all things considered.

Apparently, the Reds were picking up $8m in the Bruce deal. So depending on who the prospect the Jays were sending was, then it's possible the deal would have benefitted the Jays. Depends on how healthy Saunders stays all season.

Hendriks trade definitely looks worse now that Chavez is a one inning reliever. Smoak at $4m as back-up 1b looks laughable. They should have traded Cola if they were going to invest that much in Smoak.

wut?

You're evaluating results, SSS results.

Chavez is better and more serviceable pitcher than Hendriks by wide margin IMO. The season just started; we will see Chavez starting 12-16 games for sure.

How long till this front office makes you go back to the rays? Ballpark time line. :P

I'm positive I made a prediction that it would only be a few weeks before Gibby's dumb ST ideas wore off. I wish I could find it so I could puff up my ego a bit more.

I'm surprised he only took this long! I was expecting at least until next month

Saunders make sense today. I think he's gone under the radar. IMO, hitting behind Tulo has left a bit of a shadow. Hard to get excited for a Saunders AB when a superstar struggles immediately in front of him.

f*** Zeke's options. If he gets picked up who cares. We are trying to win THIS season. We really don't have time to f*** around and so far he has started 25% of our games.

Wont get any easier next season without 8+ WAR from Jose and Edwin.

Did you see that throw last night? My 7 year old throws better.

Ceciliani please.

Hendriks has been pretty bad so far. It's way too early to call the trade anyways but at this point, even with Chavez in the pen it doesn't actually look worse.

No, I'm evaluating role. Chavez provides value as a SP, not a RP. So yes, there's still time for him to start games this season (injuries, innings limits, spot starts, etc), but as a RP, he does not provide enough value to justify losing 3 years of control and adding $4m in salary.

Not a big deal. The trade was made for depth, and it turns out Sanchez became a viable option, and even Floyd became one as well, so the deal was done for logical reasons.
