General 2016 Blue Jays discussion thread

My post stemmed from a thread I saw on reddit where these closet Vancoverans came out saying that they're die hard M's fans so I was genuinely curious lol

 

Besides this is a genuine question, lets not act like Vancouver or Montreal like Toronto a lot, I could imagine a lot of people growing up going to road trips to safeco. This also smells a lot like the fans that scream USA USA when their teams are winning just because they are an american team... are the Jays like that for Canadians? Just playing devil's advocate

 

Also very board out of my mind because of my current assignemnt

 

From my experience, not really, you wouldn't hear Canada chants at a game, though occasionally people will wear Canada clothing, face paint, or have flags.

 

But you hear USA chants everywhere.

Sorry I edited my post, I'm not talking about people chanting canada, but I feel lots of casuals lets say in Windsor or Vancouver became Jays fans because the Jays are a Canadian team (a national pride thing) when geographically it would make sense to be a Tigers or Mariners fan. According to Joe Siddall Windsor is split 50/50 in terms of Jays/Tigers, he himself grew up a Tigers fan.

 

But I guess that's gone with TV

Wasn't bragging or anything just saying *if* that situation were to happen I would be able to afford to pay that much for a seat.

 

I think a more fun question would be if you could go back in time how much would you pay to be at the dome for ALDS game 5 last year.

TV plays a huge part, every game is broadcasted on Sportsnet, I know thats how I became bigger fan when I was younger watching all the games every night locally.

I'd say 5K for 93. Tough because I was too young to enjoy those years anyway.

I guess the simplest explanation is that we're hypocrites, including me. We love patriotism from our own, but when others show it then they are arrogant. It's one of the few qualities I admire from Americans.

 

One thing that I do find funny though is that like 18 (total guess) of our players are American, perhaps more than our opponents.

Right but I can kind of see why a casual fan of any other team might think Blue Jays = Canada though. Obviously the chants themselves are stupid, but the idea behind it not so much i don't think, this is marketed to be Canada's team so when it gets treated like one we shouldn't be surprised or annoyed.... although the drunken USA chants suck balls

Osuna hasn't looked as dominant his last few outings, it seems like he's lost a few ticks on the fastball. Haven't looked anything up to back up what I think I'm seeing , but maybe he's getting fatigued?

He looked pretty dominant against Seattle. I think the Yankees just have him figured out since he faces them so often. Same way we kinda have Betances figured out.

He struck out all 4 batters he faced in game 3 in Seattle series. Tex slapped a ball into LF. Good hitting. Butler was just luck and the last hit was good hitting again slashing a FB. The V is still there. If he doesn't have a change or slider working his FB is going to get hit some outings if it's up. It's not like he is Chapman V. I think he is fine. Sometimes you just have to tip your cap. Two of the the things I like about Osuna is he has a short memory and he challenges hitters going right after them. He is going to get beat sometimes.

Texeria hit a weak oppo single with 2 strikes on him

Butler hit a broken bat floater over tulo's head with 2 strikes on him

Headly hit a double play ground ball that Osuna knocked down for some reason and they got one out instead of 2

Maison Williams hit a single with 2 strikes on him

Torreyes hit a weak sac fly (Pillar had a noodle throw) with 2 strikes on him

Gardner popped out

 

So not only were all the hits weak contact, all the singles were on 2 strikes and there was a botched double play

 

And last few outings? Did you see the game vs. Seattle? He faced 4 batters and struck all them out

Yea he was sitting 93-95 I think, I swear the Mariners series he hit 99 on the TV anyway. I remember because I made a comment he'll be throwing 100mph+ in the future.
