People remember when all braves games we on Tbs in the 90s? Jays games were on cbc right and they didn't show all the games like they do now?

 

I remember becoming a braves fan because my brothers favourite player was chipper jones, and the horrible feeling when they would get knocked out of the nlds every year

I remember nights where there was not a local broadcast and the opponents broadcast was available on the Channel 399, Rogers Preview Channel.

I looked it up. In 90s and early 2000s TSN had 10 games a year. Cbc had intermittent games and ctv had a few also. I remember being annoyed that all games weren't watchable

Well Blue Jays games at one point were on in 3-4 different places, TSN, CTV, even some were just locally on CFTO. Then CBC was also at the table plus now this was funny ass footnote in the Jays broadcast history, those goofy spring training broadcasts on City.

I'd always circle the CBC games on my calendar when I was a kid because that meant I could watch them at my camp and stay up until 10 (or later!!).

Dave Cameron at Fangraphs would be the first to say that their advanced standings are an interesting tool designed for the regular season. I have serious doubts that he'd recommend using them to predict the playoffs. I'm sure it's something that they would answer in a chat.

The main reason, I can see, that it wouldn't work in the playoffs, is the possibility they are not projecting playing time correctly.

 

In a short series more playing will go to the better players, especially pitchers, than in an ordinary 3-7 game regular season stretch.

 

The other reason it wouldn't work, is if there are deterministic psychological factors at play.

 

I don't believe in the latter. I am not sure about the first one.

Well I just remember Shawn green, Delgado, Clemens, John McDonald, overlay, Glaus, wells and Koch, Halliday, frank Thomas. Whatever span those years were, and didn't have cable for the last 6 years so didn't follow baseball. Now this may I got a place with cable and looked forward to a game every day and get sad when there is an off day. I know the first week will be hard after the World Series is over. Anybody have any tips? Force myself to follow another sport?

The offseason is for personal growth and productivity.

For a long time until '93 there were two divisions per league, East and West, and the division winners went directly to their respective CS and those winners went on to the WS ('94 was the obvious exception). Way more exclusive and preferable IMO, but I acknowledge that the current setup allows for way more teams to be competitive for longer. It was harder to make the playoffs before, but easier to go all the way. Now, it's easier to make but you have more opportunities to f*** up your run along the way, especially if you're a WC team.

On that note, I really hope we don't see playoff expansion anytime soon (but I suspect we well). I think the current format is close to perfect.
