fatcowxlive Old-Timey Member Posted September 15, 2016 Posted September 15, 2016 Let's not forget he was missing his butt buddy Navarro guys. Martin's elite framing and solid defense was really throwing Estrada off. He focusses better while throwing to one of the worst catchers in baseball. I still remember some ******* saying it's because he's "too fresh and throwing too hard"........in spite of the fact he was throwing harder in the first half - when he was amazing. He listened to Zaun and Barker. Both of them were advocates that 86-88 fastball is better than 90-92 because 90-92 is the average batspeed of a major-leaguer or something and the extra rest is making him throw harder so its bad lol

Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted September 15, 2016 Posted September 15, 2016 It's hard to keep track anymore. It's all just one big blur of crap right now with the Jays. How Zaun still has a job is beyond me. But then again Sportsnet has no clue what it's doing with their on air personalities across the board Sportsnet knows exactly what they are doing. The vast majority of baseball fans also have no clue. Sportsnet just feeds the beast.

Very boring voice for a play-by-play guy and not too energetic but his insight and analysis, especially when he comes on the FAN590 is really great so that's a great move to have him back for a few games. Buck and Pat are decent enough commentators, although I think Joe Siddal excels Pat and I think he should replace him, he's a real down to earth personality and very animated I never thought they could replace Ashby with someone better. Howarth is great my favourite commentator ever. Shi Davidi is great and so is Zwelling and Ben Nicholson-Smith and even Blair and Brunt's insights when not drinking the kool-aid are pretty reasonable as well. And Jamie Campbell has always been a great host and doesn't really comment on things he doesn't know a lot about of which is always great. So the vast majority of who Sportsnet have are great. It's just the people who they throw camera time at the most really suck. That includes Zaun, Barry and Hazel. I wish they'd have the roundtable of Zwelling, Davidi and Ben-Nicholson Smith with Campbell being the host for pre-game shows but that will never happen, so since Tim and Sid take the 5-6:30 slot anyways might as well give them the last half hour to set up the game. Tim's pretty knowledgable about baseball and Sid is hilarious so if it's not gonna be informative at least it will be entertaining. Zaun has bored me now for ages, especially that stupid Sunday Roast segment he does every sunday morning.
fatcowxlive Old-Timey Member Posted September 15, 2016 Posted September 15, 2016 I wonder what the show would look like if they researched their points of view first... Barker? Research? The thing that annoys me most about him is that he takes the whole "I'm an ex-MLB player so my opinion is fact and trumps all" which I get it, he's played so he knows way more about the humanistic side of the game because none of us have or will ever experience that. But he just sounds so arrogant, unless he's of course he's on prime time, McCowan does a good job of shutting Barker up lol

burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted September 15, 2016 Posted September 15, 2016 I wouldn't call Shulman's voice boring at all. Its a really deep voice but its easy to listen to. I personally can't stand Howarth on the radio.

I like a lot of the people working on Sportsnet, but they put so many awful people on tv all the time. It's quite painful. I really love Shulman and would love to see him as the full-time pxp guy. I have grown tired of Buck and Pat. Their old school approach just doesn't work anymore.

I always thought if Buck takes a day or two or ten off Jerry should get to step in as the play-by-play and let Wilner do the radio. 590 won't be the same after he retires.

Man he's old but has more energy than most of the play-by-play people in baseball. His classic "It's time for some Blue Jay Baseball! Hello friends this is Jerry Howarth.." intro is the best. The reason why I will remain to buy MLB.tv is that I could overlay the games with FAN590 broadcasts, especially for home games during the ALDS/CS instead of the US broadcasts was amazing.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted September 15, 2016 Posted September 15, 2016 I like Schulman and Howarth both. Howarth can get awfully cranky though, his criticism of Reyes was kind of weird. But I don't mind people who ruffle feathers like that.

I never listen to him, but I always thought he was fairly smart.

Clearly the new recipe for success.

glory Old-Timey Member Posted September 15, 2016 Posted September 15, 2016 Man, if Estrada is hurt, then start Dickey or even Feldman in his place. Why have him keep pitching badly just to have him out there?
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted September 15, 2016 Posted September 15, 2016 Wowzers... Jays have been out scored by 32 runs in September.
