Papa Buehrle is one guy from last year's team that I'd love to have back in some capacity. Miss that guy.

Of all the big acquisitions from the Marlins and Mets trades, he was the one I felt the most satisfied with by far after his tenure.

Hum... I guess they wanted to audition a lefty. He wasn't on the 40 until now so I don't think he'll be playoff eligible. Perhaps they should have done this sooner.

I thought he just has to be in the org at all prior to Sept 1

Speaking of Gibbons and his "favourites", I read that he actually contacted Buehrle to see if he was interested in joining the team in September and Buehrle said he wasn't. He probably hasn't even thrown a baseball competitively in almost a calendar year. Not sure how serious Gibbons was about inquiring about his services for the September run or where Buehrle would even be used if he WAS even able to pitch anymore.

From what I heard, Buehrle didn't even say anything. He just texted a picture of a lake which is pretty awesome.

Maybe he can be a DL replacement. I'm foggy on the rules.

Postseason Eligibility

Definition

Per Major League Baseball's collective bargaining agreement, players must meet certain criteria in order to be eligible for postseason play.

Players must be on the 40-man roster, the 60-day disabled list or the bereavement/family medical emergency list as of midnight ET on Aug. 31 to be eligible for their respective clubs' postseason rosters. Consequently, players that are acquired via September trades or signed as free agents in September are ineligible for postseason play.

Clubs can petition the Commissioner's Office to add any player that was not on the 40-man roster as of Aug. 31 -- provided the player was in the organization on Aug. 31 and is replacing a player who has spent at least 60 days on the 60-day disabled list. The Royals were able to use this tactic to add Brandon Finnegan to their roster during the 2014 postseason, despite the fact that Finnegan was not on the 40-man roster as of Aug. 31.

Additionally, all players who have served part of a suspension for performance-enhancing drugs in a given season are ineligible for postseason play that year.

Could theoretically replace Gavin Floyd then (60 day DL).

Already well practiced in the art of not giving a f***.

Love the look on his face as he's coming home from third. Pure Gibbons.

Gibby's one and only dinger in the bigs:

Because I had to look it up... He also had 89 minor league home runs.

Four call-ups expected to join #BlueJays tomorrow:

https://t.co/zF6YekdXsa

Outfielder Dalton Pompey, left-hander Matt Dermody and right-handers Ryan Tepera and Danny Barnes are expected to join the expanded Toronto Blue Jays roster Friday.

Tepera is garbage but the other three moves are solid. I'm definitely curious to see what Dermody can do. It's crazy what a revolving door the loogy situation has been, Morales, Venditte, Girodo, Loup... It wouldn't surprise me if Dermody or Liriano would be better in the role than any of the guys used so far.

Matt Dermody is so random. His minor league numbers are not very impressive. Happy Pompey is back.

His AAA numbers aren't impressive but his overall season is excellent, 5.88 K/BB.

The key question is, what are his splits? Are these stats available for minor leaguers

I really want to see Danny Barnes get some more opportunity. He picked up exactly where he left off in Buffalo. Last 10 games (since 7/20/16) he has 14IP, 0ER, 2 hits, 1 BB, and 25 K's.

Yes. Hope he gets some good shots.

Yes, he could be a key member of bullpen next season

caveat - relievers are volatile

Curious to see how Gibby uses Pompey

pinchrunner and defensive replacement for Saunders, assuming this is the regular lineup

Travis

Donaldson

Bautista

EE

Saunders

Tulo

Martin

Upton

Pillar

That lineup is optimum both sides of the diamond

edit - carrera can GTFO as a defensive replacement, heck I'd prefer Barney over him

Using MiLB.com...

Versus LH in 2016

In A+ (6.1 IP): 0.00 ERA, 1,11 WHIP

In AA (8.0 IP): 1.13 ERA, 0.88 WHIP

In AAA (6.1 IP) : 0.00 ERA, 1

.58 WHIP

They don't give K and BB rates and I can't be bothered to calculate them. The sample sizes are minuscule anyways so none to this is really significant.

Why don't we just go ahead and activate everyone on the 40 man who isn't injured? Get them a feel of the post-season run and bodies don't hurt, maybe we're beating a team 11-0 might as well use fringe arms to finish the game off

Or are we just waiting until the MiLB seasons are over?

Rogers bro. Penny saved is a penny earned. You don't want those scrubs collecting mlb cheques and eating those expensive spreads after the game.

Yea seriously, dude is a machine.

25.2 IP in Buffalo with a 0.35 ERA and a 0.75 FIP. That's insane.

His uncle has posted here since he was drafted. Pretty happy for him. He said earlier in the season that the Jays had asked him to focus on getting lefties out.

And his minor league numbers are damn good, but swayed down by the season when he failed to convert to a starter. His first year if I recall he had the lowest FIP among relievers in baseball or something like that.
