So Travis has provided 4 fWAR in 110 games played so far as a Blue Jay which would put him at around 5 for 162 games.

That was a really good trade and off season overall. Also, I think at the time, many would have preferred that the Blue Jays traded Pillar instead of Gose. If this is true to any significant extent, then you have to say keeping Pillar over Gose was also another coup. Pillar has provide over 7 fWAR over last season and the current one.

Anywho.

Definitely true

The majority were not very enthused about Pillar and I would have rather traded him than Gose at the time

Trade has worked out incredibly well for us. Tigers kicking themselves I'm sure, although their other trade getting Kinsler and unloading Fielder has certainly worked out. Travis had to be traded anyway. Just the return hasn't worked out for them.

I remember so many different trade targets being discussed here like Miller and Ackley from the Mariners and boom, the Jays get Travis. Heck of a trade.

If you look @ the stat line for Travis 2015 and 2016 he is right there almost with his torrid start from 2015. He was a little rusty and slumped some coming out of a very short rehab, but he is quietly putting together similar numbers to last yr. We got a good one here. Buh-bye Gose.

His defense has taken a pretty strong step forward as well, and according to FanGraphs his base running is better as well. Striking out a bit more, walking less and hitting for a touch less overall power but still a really, really solid 2B.

15th in fWAR in 2015-2016 for second basemen with 400PA, tied with Odor. Though Travis has 100 less games than everyone else basically.

His defense has really improved over the past year. I think he is an above average defender now.

Maybe someone knows which stats best quantifies his improvement in defense since last year. The one that I looked at was the def portion of fWAR of 5.3 in 203 plate appearance in 2016, versus 3.0 in 238 plate appearances in 2015. And then there is the eye test; he looks much better on defense this year.

His defense has been great and he is a very smart hitter. Also a humble but energetic personality. What an excellent pickup.

I'm glad Gibbons is having a rolling DH, Donaldson needs the rest he's been playing hurt all year long

Has he?

Has he?

Yeah he limps a lot, that's why on half the ground balls he doesn't hustle his hardest, you can see him at time wincing out of the batters box

Howarth said that too he says he thanks Donaldson every time he gets the chance for playing hurt and he responds with 'Well Jerry, what else am I going to do? Not play?'

I hope the Blue Jays will continue to carefully monitor Donaldson's playing time and give him as much rest as possible without hurting their playoff chances.

In Houston, maybe Barney could start at 3rd for a couple of games and then have Donaldson come in late in games when required.

You're acting like this is something recent, it's been like this all season long. It's not like its a huge injury but it's his legs that are bothering him it seams

There's a difference between being injured and being hurt. If you're injured you can't play. If you're hurt you can.

He is DHing today because his hamstring tightened up on him in the 8th inning yesterday. Hopefully the other nagging things have lessened throughout the year

I don't but you can see with your eyes sometime out of batters box limping, been like that since Juneish. I'm just saying what I'm seeing, and if I'm seeing this I think the trainers can

Im glad we have Barney as a utility player. Travis is better than Barney offensively but Barney is better defensively. Id rather have Barney in the lineup than Carrera.

Yes. And I'd rather have neither in the starting lineup

Goins is indeed here in Houston. He's yet to be activated but if Tulo is a no go, it's better to have him here now. #BlueJays
