RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted June 2, 2016 Posted June 2, 2016 Pretty tough schedule coming against Redsox. We face Price Wright and Rodriguez
intentional wok Old-Timey Member Posted June 2, 2016 Posted June 2, 2016 I'm pretty pumped that Dickey has been moved up to Friday. The wife and I have tickets to the Saturday and Sunday games. Was kind of bummed about a Dickey start (not that Stroman is a guaranteed win or anything). I think it's funny that even the most staunch Dickey defenders seem to have a pang of disappointment when they realize he will be starting the game they just bought tickets to. Even I've come around to not hating him (thanks Spanks), but if I bought a ticket and then he ended up starting I'd be like http://replygif.net/i/272.gif

The very first one was on my birthday a few years ago against Seattle and I had the pleasure to watch him implode in the 4th or 5th with a grand slam to freaking Dustin Ackley. They lost like 10-1 or something. Happy Birthday to me.
HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted June 2, 2016 Posted June 2, 2016 Dickey games are just frustrating to watch. On the off chance he doesn't give up +5 runs, he still ends up having a game that is frustrating and full of 3-0 counts, a passed ball and runners on. I'd rather watch Stroman get babip'd to death.

It was looking like a disappointment but did it ever turn out to be an amazing game. Afterwards we went to the Keg Mansion where I had set up a surprise party with 25 people. Then we came home and drank with friends at a local bar on the pier until closing time. The Best Day.

But I like the "idea" of seeing Stroman for the first time even though it's during the worst stretch of his young career Edited June 2, 2016 by KingKat

G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted June 2, 2016 Author Posted June 2, 2016 Problem is our chances are mostly for a wildcard spot Red Sox listed at 75% likely to win the division
RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted June 2, 2016 Posted June 2, 2016 ^ A lot has gone right for the Redsox in the first two months. No way their offense keeps up this torrid pace. They have a crazy babip Plenty of baseball between us and them left
glory Old-Timey Member Posted June 2, 2016 Posted June 2, 2016 I mean, I'd rather the Jays win a WC spot than miss the playoffs entirely while finishing around .500, but a long ass season followed by one extra game just seems so heart wrenching for the team that loses. Aim for the division, please. Although, a one game WC against the Rangers would be must see TV if it came to that.
intentional wok Old-Timey Member Posted June 2, 2016 Posted June 2, 2016 The Blue Jays will try to win every game. The Red Sox will try to win every game. Every other team will too. There's no aiming going on and the season itself is what makes baseball so fun and beautiful. Just enjoy it. I've never understood the "aiming" either. Like, will they just stop once they hit 86 wins and be satisfied with the Wild Card? Will they strategically lose games here and there to make sure they don't accidentally get a division title?
glory Old-Timey Member Posted June 2, 2016 Posted June 2, 2016 Yes, when I said aim, I was clearly talking to the players who read this forum religiously. I expected them to settle for the Wild Card so I figured if I told them to aim for the division, they might step their games up. Let's see if my pep talk works.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted June 2, 2016 Posted June 2, 2016 Problem is our chances are mostly for a wildcard spot Red Sox listed at 75% likely to win the division True but as you said, we doubled our playoff odds in about two weeks. We can turn that percentage around pretty quickly. My hope is that the Sox starting pitching starts to struggle on top of their offense cooling. On the flipside if we can continue to get strong starting pitching and our offense starts to regress to the mean we could finish the season pretty strong. I'm pretty confident that our bullpen will be much better moving forward as guys have clearly stepped up and roles are being defined.
HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted June 2, 2016 Posted June 2, 2016 superb article on how Bautista keeps in shape and numerous comments on diet and nutrition. Really good and long: http://www.sportsnet.ca/baseball/mlb/jose-bautista-dominates-body-maintenance-game/ some other interesting notes -no mention on Donaldson in regarding to eating well, but Stroman, Goins and Pillar getting nods -throws shade at the Jays org for not providing the best foods

Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted June 2, 2016 Posted June 2, 2016 Decent article on LeBlanc and Diamond pitching well in AAA. Very conceivable that one or both will be used at some point. They might not be total pieces of s*** if we have to use them. http://jaysjournal.com/2016/06/02/blue-jays-wade-leblanc-scott-diamond-earning-consideration/

That's been a huge positive so far.
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted June 2, 2016 Posted June 2, 2016 So much pitching depth and no injuries to force the team to use it. That's been a huge positive so far. I'd say if either of those two guys see any significant time in the majors (spot starts are to expected at some point an that's fine), the Jays are completely f***ed.

Yeah I'd agree with that and we've certainly seen such scenarios play out in the past. Last two years have been good. Stroman's injury last year has been the only major DL stint out of the rotation in the last calendar year. (Knock on wood and all that).

I don't know if Diamond comes in and shitballs his way to a 4.5 ERA over 10 starts it's probably ok. But I get what you are saying. This team does not have great pitching depth. Especially when you factor in that our #6 starter (Hutchison) is guaranteed to become our #5 sometime after the break. Relying on either of those two for a long stretch could be a disaster.
