jays_fever Old-Timey Member Posted April 3, 2016 Posted April 3, 2016 Not a fan but anything to get Tepera away from the big league club
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted April 3, 2016 Posted April 3, 2016 Good. Osuna Storen Cecil Floyd Chavez Biagini Morales Decent enough bullpen. I think Floyd is the wildcard that could turn this into a great pen.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted April 3, 2016 Posted April 3, 2016 I am NOT a fan of this move. 3.47 xFIP against lefties last year.
2lowitzki Verified Member Posted April 3, 2016 Posted April 3, 2016 He has overpowering mid 90s fastball.. and Lefties hit 0.190 against him last year. I think not a bad move... The problem with him is that he doesn't have great breaking ball.

The problem with him is that he doesn't have great breaking ball. Last year his fastball hit 92.8. It's good velocity but hardly overpowering. Basically fastball slider type pitcher and according to fangraphs, his slider sucks. On the flip side of things, we gained depth by sending Tepera to AAA.
GreekFatAss Verified Member Posted April 3, 2016 Posted April 3, 2016 Cecil will get the tough high leverage lefty match ups. Just extra depth.
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted April 3, 2016 Posted April 3, 2016 Aaron Loup still has options. I guess he might have to go to AAA when he comes back. This move is a bit puzzling. I mean I hate Tepera as much as the next guy but there were other options besides this. Girodo could have kept Loup's seat warm.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted April 3, 2016 Posted April 3, 2016 Seems like an overpay when Venditte and Girado are there in the minors but can't complain if it gets Tepera off the team lol. Some guys in the FO were like wait a second why the f*** is Tepera on the team.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted April 3, 2016 Posted April 3, 2016 Well there we go. Contract isn't guaranteed.
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted April 3, 2016 Posted April 3, 2016 3.47 xFIP against lefties last year. And 4.24 the year before (split between starting and relieving mind you) with a career 3.89 versus lefties. Why not just let Venditte be the second lefty until Loup comes back, and save $1.5M in the process?
JTL Verified Member Posted April 3, 2016 Posted April 3, 2016 He's dealt with control problems throughout his career. Wouldn't trust last years walk rate

KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted April 3, 2016 Posted April 3, 2016 So who does a non-guaranteed contract work? He just gets the pro-rated portion if they cut him when Loup comes back?

Ryan Tepera goes to #Bisons. #Jays now have two lefties in the bullpen. I'm not convinced that Morales will provide more value than Tepera or Venditte and he's definitely not an upgrade over Loup. This move is unnecessary and an overpay in my books, especially considering we could have had him on a minor league deal earlier in the offseason.
Slade Old-Timey Member Posted April 3, 2016 Posted April 3, 2016 I guess that means the status is not good on Loup or they just don't care for him. Next step is to cut Zeke and sign Bourn.

FrozenRopes Verified Member Posted April 3, 2016 Posted April 3, 2016 Good depth signing. Loogy or not, it's better than Tempura...

Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted April 3, 2016 Posted April 3, 2016 Non-guaranteed means not an overpay. Sheesh. Non guaranteed contracts are a spring training thing and are guaranteed when the player makes the opening day roster. This needs more clarification; I suspect it might be a split contract.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted April 3, 2016 Posted April 3, 2016 That mean Loup out for period of time. Solid move. Tapera suxx, Venditte is nothing and Girodo isn't ready
RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted April 3, 2016 Posted April 3, 2016 Looks like Loups injury is a significant one. Morales career numbers vs lefties are great.
TilsonBritoFan Verified Member Posted April 3, 2016 Posted April 3, 2016 Even if it's not guaranteed, the point is, it's not necessary. First off, it's a dick move to Tepera, being told you made the team, then the night before you get shipped out. Then how about the message it sends to Venditte? If they only signed Morales to hold the bag until Loup comes back, why didn't we just save the $$$ and use Venditte to begin with instead of Morales. If the contract becomes guaranteed when he makes the team, then it's an incredibly stupid waste of $2 million. If it's not guaranteed, and he's only going to make pro-rated part of $2 million for 2 weeks then get cut, then it's bad optics, and Morales will be pissed. All this for Franklin f***in Morales? This smells like the Bruce trade. A head scratching potential waste of money for no reason whatsoever. Why again does everyone love Shapiro/Atkins?

I don't think a team has EVER won the World Series making sure to never hurt the feelings of any of their players. Which part of Ryan Tepra has been DESTROYED by left handed hitters do you not understand. Yes it may be a SSS in the majors, but we are much better having a veteran pitcher who CAN get LH out. Especially one that contributed in the bullpen to the team that won the World Series last year. Everyone loves Shapiro and Atkins because they make good baseball decisions. There were some who questioned their bullpen decision, this seems to rectify those questions. Veteran depth at the Major League level AND AAA is what wins Championships.

flafson Verified Member Posted April 3, 2016 Posted April 3, 2016 Girodo didn't pass the eye test for me at all. Anyone else? I think all the pitchers we used yesterday didn't pass the eye test for me, doesn't really mean match considering most of them are far from being MLB ready and I'm not a scout.
