Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted March 15, 2016 Posted March 15, 2016 Shatkins doesn't want neither Jose or Edwin for +4 years. Im fine with that
AdamGreenwood Old-Timey Member Posted March 16, 2016 Posted March 16, 2016 Really wish we would have traded them both in the offseason. We could have really restocked the farm. After this year, we're going to have a pretty bleak future for quite a few years. Oh well, Enjoy 2016. Gonna be out last year of being competitive for awhile.

Almost as though the jays aren't allowed to improve the roster in the next couple of years..
dineke Old-Timey Member Posted March 16, 2016 Posted March 16, 2016 Anthony "Ricky Henderson" Alford and Vlady jr will carry this franchise for years to come.
RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted March 16, 2016 Posted March 16, 2016 I really wish we could return to 20 years of mediocrity where year after year we could see prospects fail but use perceptual bias Those were the days

I've been imagining it ever since last year. It makes it alot easier to imagine with Donaldson, Tulo, and Martin under control for several years. If Travis and Pompey can take a step forward, and Pillar can continue to be good, then we're in pretty good shape

Aren't they 10-5 guys going back to last season? They just veto any deal. I would.

Once you're traded, you're free of the qualifying offer possibility, meaning you're a true free agent, and you will make way more money and be signed quicker after the season. Plus, there is a good chance you're going to be traded to a contender, too. Otherwise, you're not being traded in the first place.

He was responding to a comment about trading them last/this offseason. Which we couldn't, because they would have vetoed any trade.

All the Jays have are good to elite players at every premium defensive position locked up for years - C, 3B, SS, 2B and CF. It's going to be so difficult to find 105 RC+ guys to fill out 1B, DH and the corner outfield spots so that the offense is merely well above average instead of the best in the game should both of these guys leave.

Dominicans are super easy to offend.

Hard to find a team to trade to they wouldn't reject a trade to and that has a great farm/willing to pay a steep price for them. People tend to forget that they're both 10/5

People tend to forget that they're both 10/5 Both EE and JB would likely accept trades to a contender, they are very competitive. I mean, I doubt they'd agree to a trade to CIN or the Marlins.

So only such teams would be interested.

Frenchsoup Verified Member Posted March 16, 2016 Posted March 16, 2016 Shatkins better be careful with what they're doing. You don't want Bautista and Edwin to be Yankees or Red Sox's for the next 4-5 years, do you?
JaysAllMighty Old-Timey Member Posted March 16, 2016 Posted March 16, 2016 If EE and JB won't accept 3yrs then I'm on board with trading them if we can get something valuable for them. Hope they are working on it.

You don't want Bautista and Edwin to be Yankees or Red Sox's for the next 4-5 years, do you? Yankees are not going to involve themselves with aging players to massive contracts, they've already said that. Boston also probably won't go that high on their DH position anymore, considering some of their younger guys need to get signed and they now have Price. Very small chance either of those teams give JB or EE the term/AAV they are looking for.

I mean if they say yes and you have a deal in place - great.....but if they say "no" - then you've told them you want to trade them, but you can't. That can't create a good vibe around a team that's ready to win now. I know it's business - but that's risky business if you ask me and I won't be surprised if the Jays haven't even considered it for that reason.

If either of them acted unprofessional about it, there would be all kinds of magical "leaks" about how Bautista is a locker room cancer. I can't picture Edwin being a problem at all, he's too low key. But it would have too much potential to hurt Bautista's FA value. Plus, if there was that much negativity in the clubhouse, they would likely waive their 10/5 rights. Bautista does a good job of posturing for the media, but ultimately Rogers is still his daddy and they hold the power here, not him.
youngtea Verified Member Posted March 16, 2016 Posted March 16, 2016 The longer this contract negotiations go the more I can see that AA knew what was going on with the Jays front office and that's why he left. Not much you can do when the front office doesn't want to spend.
Governator Community Moderator Posted March 16, 2016 Posted March 16, 2016 If we're leading the division at the deadline I don't think either get traded even though it could be best for the team. Shapiro has had to struggle to build general trust with the fanbase and letting them play it out might be a wise move for retention purposes. In the event we are a .500 club then I think they wouldn't hesitate to ask for a list of teams. The odds of finding a competitive AL Team with a weak DH at the deadline who have the assets to trade for EE seems pretty slim, I don't see many scenarios where he's an easy trade. Where as I think Bautista would bring a lot more trade partners to the table who need an outfield or DH upgrade from either league.
