I dunno, two are better than one.

But you can only have 1 number 1 you can't have two number 1s that makes 2 and then math get tricky lol

I like EE but Bautista is my priority (assuming the 150 figure is a joke)

If Bautista isnt happening EE needs to happen but again within limits. Guy will be 33, defensive liability and has had nagging injuries. Id go 3/65 or 4/80 but that is it.

I

hate to say this but it if colabellolololo hits 850 OPS id rather keep him around for DH work next year and split him with smoak or something. The saved money goes into donaldson and stroman who to me are far more important.

anyone else seeing the direct opportunity for a number 1 and number 2 joke?

since we have no idea what Rogers is willing to put on the table it's really hard to have an opinion either way. sure, I'd love to have Ed or Jose, but not at a team crippling deal. Let just wait and see how it all pans out.

jays on tv tomorrow! that feeling of a disturbance in the force has subsided.

As has been noted there are two quality bats in free agency next year and the often injured Texiera as a third. Edwin is 32 and his comparable players are worse hitter were older and less consistent. I can't see a contract less than 5 years and $100 million getting it done. I think that there would be enough teams out there that would offer that to Edwin if he has another usual Edwin year. The Jays might be able to structure some sort of deferred payment scheme or make the last year a vesting option or something - but someone will give him 5/100. He's been something like the second best power hitter in the AL for the last 5 years or something. I can see a lot of AL interest in him. And some NL teams might be willing to put up with his 1B defense.

He has no trade rights so

I would be all for trading both of them at the deadline.

Huh? What if were in first place?

lmao they both have 10/5 they'll reject any trade that doesn't put them in a better team than the Jays. No way. I'm not too worried about getting anything back for them, if we can't retain them then we can have 2 first round picks, it is what it is.

I doubt that. If the Jays are out of it they will except the trade. Once they get traded whatever team signs them in the offseason doesn't need to give up a pick. That means more teams will be in play for them and possibly more money for them. I think they except a trade if it comes down to it.

Bautista also sounds like he hates Rogers, this isn't the first time he called them out.

It's obviously harder to trade them but they are going to accept a trade if forced to. You can always bench them if they refuse to be traded at all, no played that sees free agency on the horizon wants to limit his contract by being benched.

They had no problem trading Cole Hamels and he has a huge contract and they got a huge return on him.

Why do people keep believing this fictional scenario of the Jays being out of it by the deadline? The second wild card in the A.L. is probably going to go to a team with 85-88 wins in a league that's expected to have parity. That means anyone within 5 games of a slightly above .500 team in July is going to be "in it". The A's are probably the only team in the A.L. that won't make that definition and even that is not guaranteed.

In the unlikely scenario that the Jays are so far out of it by July, say 10 games under .500 or more, it would be due to the offense caving in and most likely that means Bautista and Encarnacion are on the DL and/or are playing like s*** and are not tradeable assets.

It's not very fictional based on your second paragraph? Just because there is a second wild card it doesn't mean that you should waste an opportunity to get good value back for those two players if it should arise. If were leading the division that's another story.

God I can't stand the infatuation with prospects that this org use to have, I hope we dont go back to the days getting excited over prospects. Only so much hype and failure we can take.

It's a fairly irrefutable fact that the vast majority of professional athletes in any of the major sports are in clear decline by the time they are in their early 30s, let alone their mid to late 30s.

Betting on aging ballplayers remaining valuable while paying them market value is a recipe for disaster. Sure you can have a couple, but after this year, that couple will be Tulo and Martin, with a side of Donaldson in the next year.

I don't want the Jays to be out of anything by the deadline, but that doesn't mean I can't see what's best for the ball club's future IF that's the case.

Jose and Edwin for young talent will be fun to watch at the trade deadline.

Welcome home Giolito, Devers, Brinson or Mazara

For those of us who only speak and read English - what was the length of the contract the Jays offered?

My Spanish is not great so maybe someone else can chime in. Seems he is looking for a 4 or 5 year deal, no specifics on what was offered.

The point people seem to forget is if the jays are out of it by the deadline payroll is going to shrink. Best case for the blue jays future is to win and make the playoffs, let Bautista and Edwin walk while having a $160 million payroll next season. If the Jays falter payroll goes back into the $120 range or lower and sets the fanbase back years again.

DUNEDIN, Florida - The first baseman and designated hitter Edwin Encarnacion will not make his spring debut with the Toronto Blue Jays in the coming days as scheduled, due to an injury on the left side, the player on Tuesday Digital ESPN said.

Encarnacion, who is prepared in Dunedin for his last year of contract, was pessimistic about the possibility of signing an extension with the Blue Jays before starting the next season of Major League Baseball.

Encarnacion, 33, was unable to play in the preseason because of a dental surgery. The slugger, who took the winter to recover from an injury to the middle finger of the left hand and a sports hernia surgery, took batting practice Sunday for the first time since a mouth 29 debrero process.

had a lot of time doing nothing and when I started to swing felt a little pain and to make sure not to waste much time, I preferred to take a couple days off and hope the pain goes away. I hope to play at the end of this week or the next, "the player said.

Encarnacion said that an MRI showed that only has some swelling and still expects to be in alignment with the Blue Jays in the opening match of the season on Sunday , April 3 against Tampa Bay in St. Petersburg, Florida .

"I think I'll be ready for that day. I know that one should take more turns to take up, but a veteran like I know what to do," he said.

Encarnacion, who averaged 38 homers and 106 RBIs in the last four years, provided an update of its contract talks with the Blue Jays. The two-time All-Star won the inaugural day as the deadline to sign an extension to keep it in Toronto beyond 2016, but is not very optimistic that reaching an agreement.

"There is nothing new in the last meeting held my lawyer [with the Blue Jays] we do not reach any agreement as to the years. We have not talked about much [money]. What interests us most to us are the years and do not reach an agreement, "Encarnacion said.

"Now I hope to finish my year, finish my healthy year and go to free agency. I do not rule [agreement] yet, but there is less chance that percentage is not made to be done," he said.

When asked Incarnation ESPNdeportes.com if you are seeking an extension of six years, like his compatriot and teammate Jose Bautista-- who will also be libre-- agent, Encarnacion said, "With four or five years one does."

We're not even in the same ballpark for the resources the Dodgers currently have. So eventually prospects will be needed to offset the costs of rostering a team of 30+ year old players getting 25+m per year contracts.

People here seem pretty keen on letting both walk unless we sign a couple elite bats to sweetheart contracts. Do people actually have suggestions of replacing them because we really don't have anything internally and you have to spend money on someone.
