JosJos Verified Member Posted February 23, 2016 Posted February 23, 2016 @SNJeffBlair I won't even mention the possibility that Bruce could replace Jose Bautista in RF next year if he leaves. Cheaper, too ... except that Bautista is a consistent 5+ war player and Bruce is barely a 1 JBlair is a tool
RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted February 23, 2016 Posted February 23, 2016 Think Blair is out drinking with Buck When was the last time Blair actually broke a story having to so wit the Jays
glory Old-Timey Member Posted February 23, 2016 Posted February 23, 2016 Think Blair is out drinking with Buck Their drunken conversation of Pillar being a great lead off hitter and Bruce batting 3rd in 2017 was probably worth listening to.
JosJos Verified Member Posted February 23, 2016 Posted February 23, 2016 Their drunken conversation of Pillar being a great lead off hitter and Bruce batting 3rd in 2017 was probably worth listening to. Pillar and his 300 obp? hahahahaha
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted February 23, 2016 Posted February 23, 2016 Are they going to convert Bruce into a pitcher? Why would this acquisition put Dickey on the block? My guess is that Blair said that because they have similar salaries? It's hard to tell what the mind of an alcohol-related dementia sufferer is thinking.
Slugger Verified Member Posted February 23, 2016 Posted February 23, 2016 We know Bruce has no problem staying healthy, so if Jacoby can help him at the plate again, we may have a decent bat.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted February 23, 2016 Posted February 23, 2016 Buster Olney Sources: There is doubt among those involved in the Jay Bruce talks that the deal will be completed.
Laika Community Moderator Posted February 23, 2016 Posted February 23, 2016 Projected lineup: Pillar Donaldson Bruce Tulo Bautista Smoak Edwin Colabello Goins Travis fap fap fap
THANOS Old-Timey Member Posted February 23, 2016 Posted February 23, 2016 except that Bautista is a consistent 5+ war player and Bruce is barely a 1 JBlair is a tool Hell, Bruce was replacement level last year at a 12M price-tag, and below replacement level the previous year http://www.wrestlingforum.com/images/smilies/roflmao.gif. Unless a magic Jacoby fix happens, and/or we receive a boat load of cash or a prospect, this can't be viewed as anything but a huge loss.

JosJos Verified Member Posted February 23, 2016 Posted February 23, 2016 Call me new school but any player who strike out 200 time is a liability even if he hit 30+ hr. It's all about the war and Bruce is at best on par with Saunders.
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted February 23, 2016 Posted February 23, 2016 Deal is dead. Probably a good thing.
ValiantJaysFan Verified Member Posted February 23, 2016 Posted February 23, 2016 I can only LOL at this franchise sometimes.

AdamGreenwood Old-Timey Member Posted February 23, 2016 Posted February 23, 2016 Oh, this better not be really happening. Probably just me, but I'm reluctant to pay $13.5 million for one year of an aging outfielder, who has averaged -0.4 WAR over the last two years.
BTS Community Moderator Posted February 23, 2016 Posted February 23, 2016 Please let this be true, please. Why? What if Cinci is covering the difference in salary, the team has reason to believe that Bruce isn't as bad as he's looked, and the deal falls through because Saunders' medicals are a mess? You'd be happy about this?

BTS Community Moderator Posted February 23, 2016 Posted February 23, 2016 Kill this deal, trade Saunders to the Angels for a reliever, and sign Austin Jackson. Make it happen. This would be most good.

Probably just me, but I'm reluctant to pay $13.5 million for one year of an aging outfielder, who has averaged -0.4 WAR over the last two years. Bruce is 28; 29 on opening day. Declining is most likely true, but not aging.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted February 23, 2016 Posted February 23, 2016 This would be most good. Yep. Improves the defense, and Jackson at the very least will stay healthy and provide a 1-2 WAR for a season. That's more than I can say for Saunders, unless his knee has miraculously healed (the fact that he's being shopped probably disproves that theory).
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted February 23, 2016 Posted February 23, 2016 well if this thing fell apart due to saunders medicals... so much for his 'i feel good' from the other day

You'd be happy about this? We have no idea if its the medical though. Its more likely the prospects going back. I would like to think the Blue Jays wouls have non tendered Saunders if his medicals were that alarming.

It's kind of annoying that Jackson is still out there. Even with Saunders here, Jackson is a perfect fit.
