We will likely see 4 or 5 different guys at leadoff throughout the season.

By August though, I hope to see Pompey as the man, sporting a .340+ OBP

I'm a believer in Pompey hit tool and plate approach, he just needs to find his MLB comfort zone

I traded Odorizzi for him #BBDL... He should start to take quality at bats at MLB level.

Lol Bautista is not going to bat lead off and neither is Tulo or Martin

Ppl here are so unrealistic. Most likely it will be either Travis or if he is unhealthy whoever plays LF

How can it be unrealistic to expect Tulo to bat leadoff for Toronto when he's already done exactly that.

Gibby essentially continues to tell us who is going to bat leadoff:

National Post

“I like the thought of Kevin doing it, we’ll see what he can do, but Michael’s still an option,” Gibbons said before the Braves game.

“Kev, you know, he just has that knack, he puts the ball in play, he’s done it before in the minor leagues,” Gibbons said. Unprompted, he brings up the case against Pillar as leadoff man. “The argument is, well, as a leadoff guy, he doesn’t draw many walks, he’s kind of aggressive,” Gibbons says, doing his best impression of someone with his head stuck in a spreadsheet. “But some guys out there, that type of hitter, have been very successful in the leadoff spot"

Meh it is what it is. We should still score a ton of runs.

Pisses me off. No justification for putting such a poor foot forward, regardless of how "little" the negative impact will be.

It's stupid but not sure why it pisses you off. Its not like you can do anything about it. I like the idea of Tulo hitting 5th. Can't have everything you want.

Too many "middle of the order bats" and not enough room for them all in the middle of the order. That's what pisses me off.

This man is being paid how much to maximize the chances of the team winning every game, and he flubs up something as simple as the batting order? We have like 3 or 4 potential lead off hitters and hes choosing pillar it makes no sense.

How many times are we going to see thole or goins hit with runners in scoring position late in the game? Or how about saving our closer for a save situations even though were on the road in an extra innings game?

Gibbons isnt a good manager, im sure the players get along with him though so thats worth something. Realistically a manager like Gibbons won't even cost us many games but when it happens its frustrating as f.

If it makes anyone feel better, Ned Yost would absolutely hit Pillar leadoff. And Gibby probably learned a lot as his bench coach so...

If I had to pick something to piss me off it would be trading Hendriks with mutiple years of control for one year of Chavez at more than 4x the cost to compete for the 5th starter job. A job that will probably be handed to Sanchez with Chavez filling the same role Hendriks had last year.

That's what pisses me off. Even stretching Hendriks out as a starter made more sense than this idiotic scenario we are watching play out infront of our eyes.

I never once said Gibbons was a good manager. If it was my decesion Bautista would leadoff but ego prevents that from being an option. I'm just making the point of getting upset about it is pointless.

Fair enough.

A healthy Devon Travis will likely be the #1 spot in the future... we are just going to have to deal with Gibby's "gut feelings" and "pure hitter" BS.

dont count on Travis being back anytime soon, he hasnt even started baseball activities yet

Yeah, he's back in June at the earliest.

Yeah, I think most of us knew he would pick Pillar months ago. He's one of those old school morons who thinks it's critical that the leadoff guy can steal 20 bases.

Except he hit Tulo leadoff and Revere 9th.

And he hit Donaldson leadoff for more than a few games.

That's why I'm not overly concerned about Pillar hitting lead off, even though it is a really stupid decision. If Pillar has 2 bad weeks, and Saunders (as an example) is scorching hot to start the year, I could see him making that swap by mid-April. On the flip side, if KP starts the season blazing, then all bets are off.
