The Toronto Blue Jays announced the hiring of Mike Murov as director of baseball operations on Sunday.

Murov had worked in the Boston Red Sox organization since 2010, and most recently served as the team's assistant director of major league operations.

Under his new role with the Blue Jays, Murov will support baseball operations in creating and implementing decision making systems and processes. He'll also assist in the preparation of the analysis of financial, statistical, and contractual information, according to the team's release.

Murov is one of a number of new hires the Blue Jays have made since president Mark Shapiro took over in early November.

Well we may not be making any exciting/significant signings in terms of player personnel, but we are certainly sweling our executive ranks.

Possibly they can all sit around and discuss the unfairness of the mysteriously dwindling budget?

Mysteriously dwindling budget. It was projected to be 140 million, seems that it's going to be in that ball park. Besides that there certainly is no mystery as to where the Canadian dollar is going and why.

You misunderstand the irony of my statement. I was hinting that the money seems to be going more on hiring executives than on player personnel.

I always thought that was a different budget? If it isn't, though, I doubt these office staff signings would be all that significant.

Considering the amount of total budget spent on player personnel, I think spending some money on the executives making those choices is a wise idea. Especially when your poaching executives from the Red Sox, the Indians and the International Department of the Texas Rangers. I still think we see Ramon Pena come on board as well.

It's interesting to get the impression that the Jays are operating within the wider world of baseball. For a long time, it's felt like a lot of personnel decisions were made within a very narrow backwards looking frame of reference (bringing back Beaston, bringing back Cito, bringing back Gibby).

Except they're missing the guy we all would actually want back.

Come on, this should be an easy one - although age and Amaro might have made him senile by now so who knows.

Don't want Gillick back at 78 years old. He's had a great run. We all love him but that page has to be turned.

Are we dipping him in Bronze?

i miss Tim Johnson too. i felt like if he were the Jays manager last year, they would have won the world series. don't see what the big deal is about that one white lie about Vietnam. i tell my friends and coworkers inspirational stories from my days in Nam, and they all seem to draw helpful life lessons from it.
