Followthelight Verified Member Posted December 7, 2015 Posted December 7, 2015 I have that desire for two years I have a desire between my legs for many years.
Pulk_Pull Verified Member Posted December 7, 2015 Posted December 7, 2015 I think the constant mentions of 'adding depth' by Shapiro and the $3.9 mil owed to Smoak is a pretty clear indication that this team isn't looking at adding a big splash, or a starting 1B. The addition of a Chris Davis would be a precursor to something else, but as others have pointed, the one piece that you would want to move would need to approve of a trade. Just doesn't make sense in terms of the current offseason, team makeup and the god damn source.... Berger has been freelance for years now. There's a reason no one wants him.
BigRed Verified Member Posted December 7, 2015 Posted December 7, 2015 I thought I remember reading an article about how once you reach a certain distance from the mean in terms of run scoring or prevention, it makes sense to keep adding to that strength. Adding another huge bat to this lineup could have compounding effects that would not exist if the same player was added to a worse (or context neutral) lineup. Probably this fangraphs article on Tulowitzki after the trade http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/troy-tulowitzki-the-blue-jays-and-upgrading-strengths/ there's also this one http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/mark-trumbo-and-the-relative-value-of-obp-and-slg/
Gorlak Verified Member Posted December 8, 2015 Posted December 8, 2015 Isn't it easier to assume we cannot trade JB or EE at this point? Even so who would trade away young pitching for older players with no control? esp considering they are both DH's at this point. If anyone is gonna be traded for cap relief it's either Tulo, Dickey or both. Doubt it's Dickey given we just signed Thole and have no backup catcher and need SP. I know this thread and the winter meetings thread is full of stuff that has no chance of happening, but still... They have cheap contracts that would allow almost any team to afford the trade. Either would net a great return, but hard to get a great mlb pitcher from a team that wants to compete anyway.
Daniel Labude Jays Centre Contributor Posted December 8, 2015 Posted December 8, 2015 A team on the cusp of making a serious post season splash in need of a power bat like EE's would probably trade a young #2-3 type for one year of EE, if they have an abundance of young pitching of course. So.....the Mets?
Governator Community Moderator Posted December 8, 2015 Posted December 8, 2015 But EE is Forcing his Hand, he would almost have to agree to a trade now! f*** the 10&5 ! The 10 and 5 is a great rule imo. Eventually u have to treat the ones you like as ppl and not just poker chips.
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted December 8, 2015 Posted December 8, 2015 Another dude I've never heard of. He's that guy we tricked KGM into thinking is North before moogy had to ruin everything. He's probably just seeing what this Berger guy wrote on twitter and then phrasing it in a way that seems like he has a source.
BeastMode Verified Member Posted December 8, 2015 Posted December 8, 2015 Nothing about this signing would make any sense whatsoever. He wouldn't even remotely fit into our remaining budget ($5-7M). Even if you trade Revere, this requires a budget increase. That $5-$7 million you mention is generous, it's more like $1-$2 million
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted December 8, 2015 Posted December 8, 2015 Orioles Hangout would explode if this happened. Pretty much the only reason to want it to happen.
BeastMode Verified Member Posted December 8, 2015 Posted December 8, 2015 Mods need to come up with a plan, and lock all threads when the sources aren't reliable.
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted December 8, 2015 Posted December 8, 2015 Guys the delta between Chris Davis and Jason Heyward could be well over $100 million, total contract. Heyward's contract might end up being Chris Davis' contract TIMES TWO, END TO END. A contract centipede, if you will. Ass to mouth contracts. It's silly to say that if they can sign Chris then they should just sign Jay. Just silly. Nearly same AAV and Heyward is a surer bet to stay good.
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted December 8, 2015 Posted December 8, 2015 Mods need to come up with a plan, and lock all threads when the sources aren't reliable. Not going to happen. We're not Snopes. As long as people provide their sources, it's fine. Typically the board does a good job of discussing the validity of any source faster than any one mod could.

Nafro Verified Member Posted December 8, 2015 Posted December 8, 2015 (edited) Howard Berger is still a douche! Can we change the name of this thread to..."Howard Berger don't know s*** about Baseball!" Edited December 8, 2015 by Nafro

Moving EE for a pitching prospect and Davis hitting 50 bombs at Rogers makes sense to me.

Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted December 8, 2015 Posted December 8, 2015 Chris Davis @ 6 years/$150M (plus draft pick), or Encarnacion at 4 years/$80M? The choice is obvious.

FrozenRopes Verified Member Posted December 9, 2015 Posted December 9, 2015 You think We would trade him to Boston? He is in the driver seat. Its pretty apparent he likes Boston. They have a good prospect pool. So yes, I can see him being dealt to the Sox.
