Hurl had the scoop on Shapiro working on a deal with medical/biomechanics org back in August.

I thought it was the mental performance thing which was just reported yesterday? Either way I'm sure they will hire more people this offseason.

Most definitely. It could help our pitchers limit the risk of injury and potentially increase command with repeatable fluid deliveries.

But Cleveland has managed to build a strong club without really hitting on high draft picks. As the scouting versus development debate always rages on, one name that kept popping up when I asked around the league about the Indians was Ross Atkins. Atkins has spent the past eight years in charge of player development with Cleveland, and even after his recent promotion to vice president of player personnel he'€™ll still head up the player development department. It'€™s that continuity that many around the league point to when it comes to the success the Indians are seeing with some lesser-known prospects.

When it comes to big improvements, the Indians have done a great job in the past two seasons. In 2014 they had three players in the top 30 in greatest year-to-year WARP improvement (Kluber, Brantley, Carrasco); in 2013, when they made the playoffs, they had four (Gomes, Kipnis, Ryan Raburn, Drew Stubbs).

Just read this, but it really does point to Atkins as an indirect/direct reason Carrasco, Kluber, etc became so great. I'm confident that he hires coaches that focus on maximizing the peripherals any given pitcher can produce.

You guys seriously freeze your jeans?

A couple of weeks ago I threw a pair of jeans in the laundry, next day I see my jeans are frozen. My mom said she read this somewhere and decided to try it out. I thought she was crazy. No smell though so idk

Here's more on the philosophies that Atkins, and his assistant director of development, implemented for pitching.

Jeff Passan of Yahoo Sports recently wrote about the Indians dedication to advanced development:

"Cleveland’s devotion to pitching runs deep in the organization, where it has hired and unleashed player-development personnel whose philosophies don’t exactly run parallel to baseball’s deeply ingrained thinking on how to grow pitchers. Assistant director of player development Eric Binder came from the Texas Baseball Ranch, the pitching think tank run by independent coach Ron Wolforth."

Through Trevor Bauer, Eric Binder, and an open-minded front office, the Indians have implemented weighted baseball throwing regimens, shoulder sleeves to strengthen muscles, pitching sleeves that store kinematic data for analyzing, and other techniques throughout their major and minor league systems. Pitching coach Mickey Callaway spent part of his offseason in Seattle, Washington to learn more about these techniques and their potential benefits from Driveline Baseball.

This should shed some light on what exactly Atkins could be bringing to our development system.

Grant its better to spot wash denim with a damp cloth than it is to machine wash. Once bacteria is in denim it doesn't really come out, for smell put them in a garbage bag in the freezer and the smell is gone in a few hours.

I'm not sure I should believe this. I was told before not to believe everything

I figured it wouldn't be a bad idea to actually post something of relevance in this thread, instead of adding another post about jeans or hair..

I like the sounding of all of that. Where's TilsonBritoFan to bitch about this?

Decided to quit the forum. Thought himself more of a noteworthy villain than he actually is so I don't think many people noticed.

He'll reply with,

"who cares about that fancy pants geeky mumbojumbo, we want WINS in the Majors, all of this is just more strategies to get cheaper and use the no-name prospects, instead of spending money, like AA would have done"

I have two pairs so I rotate which means they don't smell. Washing jeans is basically pointless. I don't work as a dry cleaner for who ever had asked. I like dressing well so I've learned to care for clothing.

IMO I think Atkins is a good hire. LaCava would do a good job also, but the ability to bring another bright baseball mind, which Atkins, by all accounts, appears to be, can only be good for the organization.
