Off the top of my head, this has to be a -$30m deal. He won't take the opt out.

Pretty tough to say he won't three years from now.

So you would have given him that colossal contract that will kill you in about 2-3 years. Because i am guessing he is not opting out unless he breaks some records.

It'll be hard to opt out of 4/120

I hope Daniel Norris wins a Cy Young in the next 3 years. Suicide rates will rise.

hilarious man. lets joke about suicide some more.

Stro is PISSED.

Doesn't sound pissed to me. Stro probably just picked up his offseason workout load too lol, if that's possible.

In hindsight the trade will look bad now, but f*** I had a blast watching this team make the run they made.

A few different breaks in that Royals series and we could of been right there in the World Series.

I hate to see him go to the Red Sox of all teams but I would never boo him.

Rosenthal reporting opt out after 3 years.

I highly doubt he'd opt out at 31 per, but crazier things have happened, lol. Man that's a shitload of money.

You see Price walking away from 4/120 at the age of 33? I don't think he'll take the opt out.

What kind of performance does Price need to have for that contract to be worth it?

~22 wins without doing much math?

Stro is PISSED.

He tweets too damn much and it's never interesting.

I've gotten fairly ridiculous before about my rogers hate, warranted or not ..... But I'm definitely not going to put this one on them at all. That contract is insane.

Sucks that he goes to the rival, but I'll always have fond memories of his dominating one month stretch drive that gave us the division. Too bad he never really got a good proper send off here at home though (lost that final reg season start + got shelled in game 1 of ALDS).

Would be happier if it were the Cubs but we knew the BoSox would be in on someone.

Assuming $31 mil next year, going into 2016 the Sox have $90 million tied up in Hanley, Panda, Porcello and Price.... or more cash in 4 players than 8 team paid their entire roster in 2015.

I'm ok with this.

It makes me chuckle so many new fans thought we should and would sign him. The whole "he really loves TOR" leverage play by his agent a couple weeks ago was so transparent.

Good for Price. Its a business. I like him and a player and personality and wont be booing him. I also hope we mash the f*** out of him for 7 years when we face him.

If he starts at 5 WAR in 2016 and then declines normally while a $/WAR of $8M inflates normally, he'll be worth:

40

38.52

36.98

34.95

32.35

29.11

25.15

= $237M

Of course you wouldn't really expect him to total that much WAR. The added risk with pitchers in particular is the heightened chance that they will blow out their arm and miss a huge chunk of time, or just decline precipitously like Sabathia did. The extent to which you want to bake that into the projections is discretionary. I don't know the proper percentage for "pitcher risk adjustment".

This^^ DD has proven, he is very good at crippling teams with gigantic contracts, to players fighting father time. It looks like the Red Sox cannot even give Hanley away. I guess they figure he'll play first base this year, than DH/1B moving forward.
