It's gonna be kinda weird though, because last time Dan and Buck were together, Dan was the play-by-play guy and Buck did colour. But now Buck does play-by-play, and Dan doesn't have the on-field career to do colour. Should be interesting to see how they handle that.

Exactly. Hopefully they do it properly, but I doubt they will. I hope this is a step to making him full time, not sure his contract status with ESPN.

I very rarely pay attention to who's doing the games, and usually can't care less, and over the last couple years I've watched a fraction of the games I used to, but I just can't handle Tabler anymore. If I watched as many games as I did in the past I would go insane.

Would never happen. He makes more than a Million/year with ESPN. Rogers wouldn't even pay him half of that to be a fulltime broadcaster.

I know, you replied before I edited and thought about it! lol

He probably makes even more than that in the 2-3 million range now that I think about it.

I would doubt he would make 2 but i would say over 1 for sure.... Hard to say

He has never moved though, and kept coaching his son's baseball team. He might just be settling back in to Toronto life. In the summer's he only does Sunday Night games for ESPN and some Radio stuff which he does from home most times. I could Rogers eventually getting him for all home games that don't interfere with his Sunday nighter.

Dan told me himself that ESPN pays him out the ass, the Bluejays never came close to offering him his current salary.

I doubt he'd want the hassle of calling 150 games/year, its a ton of work for someone who doesn't need any money. 30 Games is probably perfect for him since he can continue to coach and have all the free time with his family etc..

His first 5 year contract in 2007 was said (rumoured...interesting that it's so hard to get information on salaries of broadcasters) to top out at $1.5M a year. He refuses to use an agent for negotiations so I wonder if his extension in 2012 was even an increase (he stopped doing NBA basketball games and drop from 125-150 events a year to approximately 75).

I totally agree (and even said "all home games"). I know his son is a 1999 (so 16 this year) but I don't know the ages of the other 2. I was more thinking after they are gone from the home. I can't see him only doing Sunday nighters from the point the NCAA's end, once his kids are out of the house. He just seems too ambitious for that.

Ah I missed the all Home games. Yeah that would make sense. But then it gets to the point of where he is only doing Monday-Thursday Home games since the SNB crew flies out on Fridays.

He said he will fill in for vacations, and sometimes 3 man booth.

Baseball guys get vacations during the season? That seems so weird, they already have most of November to April off.

When you have kids Summer is the easiest time to plan vacations for your family. It's a long ass season for them since they are on the road with the team too.

Those 4 months off a year must be tough on them too...you sound like a union rep man.

Time for Bf***ed Marktinez to step down, Jays had to let go of Alan Ashby already, (love his demeanor). Dan Shulman is a fantastic broadcaster, and to read its his dream come true to come home and call Jays games just screams for Rogers to sign this guy to a long term lucrative contract. Buck can take Barry Davis' job

Would you pay a 5% increase in ticket costs for Shulman to be the fulltime pxp guy?

It is? He was here from 1995-2001. Or were we dreaming that?

I'd probably pay a 10% increase.

Then again - I only go to a couple of games a year :)

And they make enough money to go to any destination in the winter. Xmas break is a few weeks long and March break is 9 at least

Schulman said it would only be weekday games since he's booked by ESPN for weekends.

Listening to his interview with Dean blundell, he explained how excited he was to be calling Jays games again. Given his resume and demand for American broadcasts (both basketball and baseball), it's pretty clear he chose to call games in Canada again because of a desire to do so and not monetary reasons like when he left at the turn of the century.

Good guy. This only adds to his awesome-factor, but his commentary and knowledge already has him on an unreachable status.
