Great hitter. Guy puts up at wRC+ of 138 at his age after being benched in June against LHP. http://www.sportingnews.com/mlb-news/4646923-david-ortiz-benched-red-sox-orioles-struggles

Lets hope he doesn't tear into us like he has in the past, on his last lap through the AL East.

Such an incredible hitter. How the hell does someone average 35 HR and a .370 wOBA in the age 37-39 seasons? Dude could probably get another 2 year deal after 2016 if he wanted.

And they thought he was done in 2011 @ 35 when he had a glacier like start to the season. He is still dangerous on both sides of the plate.

And this despite the fact that the shift was basically invented for him.

What are his hall of fame chances? The overall package doesn't cut it for me and he's not as good as someone like Edgar Martinez who isn't going to even sniff the Hall.

That said Ortiz has the WS titles for the once loathsome Red Sox and is one of the most popular players in the game. He was implicated by steroids but writers are pretty uneven at best when it comes to applying that.

He failed a drug test that was administered before the steroid rules were introduced, and was never suspended. It's a tricky situation. I think his career numbers and championship rings do merit HOF consideration though, definitely. Anybody in the 500 club should probably be in the HOF.

Jeff Bagwell has never been implicated in failing any sort of test and there is next to no proof that he took steroids but he still gets punished for it. Ortiz should be crucified by HOF voters for actually failing a test but for some reason he doesn't receive the same treatment.

Barry Bonds never broke any steroid rules either. I hate the ambiguity in the voting process.

Its f***ed you can't let one guy in who tested positive for PEDs in and crucify the rest (especially Bagwell one of my favorites) because it sets a double standard. If your not voting for people who used PEDs then you can't vote Ortiz because there are a lot more drug users that should be in before him.

Bagwell sure as hell looked like a poster boy for being on roids but wasn't tested positively. The ambiguity is brutal. It will be interesting how its handled when/if it becomes apparent there are already now people in HOF who were on PEDs.

He got off a little slow this year too. Over his last 100 games this season he had a 1.017 OPS.

I don't think Arod ever tested positive either, yet was suspended for a full year with no precedent. I wish MLB would just forget about past steroid usage and only blacklist guys that TEST POSITIVE in the non-steroid era. So many good guys will be left out of the HOF even though there were no rules against steroids while they were playing and literally 70% of players were on steroids anyways.

The Hall of Fame is a joke if Ortiz gets in but Martinez doesn't. Not that it isn't already anyways.

Rodriguez did positive to it, admitted it as well. Doesn't matter to me though, if steroids were a magical substance, then Gregg Zaun, Alex Sanchez and Benito Santiago would've been blasting 40+ homers a year, but they weren't. You still need ridiculous talent.

He's not a swicth hitter...

It'd be cool to see some of the best players in MLB take ABs from the other side of the plate during real games. I remember Bautista and Donaldson taking BP from the Left side and putting on a show smoking HRs.

lol. clearly. Meaning he can yank a ball inside still and can also get to pitches away driving them to CF and LCF off the monster.

Hes a first ballot hall of fame player. Anyone who thinks otherwise is insane.

IMO, he's not a hall of famer until Edgar is a hall of famer.

They both should be in the hall. Are voters discrediting him because he played DH?

The baseball hall of fame is a joke, putting Ortiz in there over Martinez would be consistent atleast in how they approach things.
