I don't think they are upset he accepted.

I'm sure they aren't upset, but you've got to think they'd rather take that pick and 15.8M and spend it elsewhere.

Kind of like how it will suck if we find out Estrada accepts tomorrow.

I think they would have preferred that he walk and give them the pick. Springer in RF, Gomez in CF, and and a Tucker/Marisnick platoon in the last spot. A 5th OF would be needed, and Rasmus certainly helps, but this can't be the optimal way to spend 16M of their budget.

Such a crazy price to pay for a guy they're going to platoon.

A one year deal at 15 million isn't that much of a risk these days. What the hell does it buy you on the FA market, not much, basically a guy like Rasmus who will put up averagish numbers.

Pretty much, but I don't think Estrada provides the wins necessary, above replacement. Or do we need to evaluate RA-9 WAR?

Last 3 years

2013 5.1 fWAR

2014 0.9 fWAR

2015 2.8 fWAR

Steamers thinks 0.8 fWAR....for 2016

So ugh...i don`t know....probably a smart move by him to accept since he was attached to a draft pick.

There will be a couple more by tomorrow evening

Who you thinking? Rasmus, Estrada, Gallardo and Anderson were the guys I thought had a chance to accept. Looks like Gallardo is getting plenty of attention and will probably decline.

16M is almost an entire year of Chris Davis' 5 year contract.

Is the consensus that Davis will only get about 80 million? I would be shocked if that was the case. I think 120 million is what you're looking at.

5/100 is what I was referring to. 6/120 sure.

I'm guessing Estrada and Anderson. Kennedy maybe, Weiters would have if he wasn't a Boras client.

Retirement money for Colby. He might just call it a career after this season.

Why would he retire? He'll be just 30 by the end of next season and could have another productive year.

I don't understand why Steamer only projects a 90 wRC+ for him. He has three consecutive seasons above 104 wRC+ or more, I don't see why it would be logical to project him for a massive decline.

I don't think @TBJ12 is suggesting he retire, but rather that he has made a lot of money for a player at his age-- and now has a huge contract relative to his productivity.

And that he could hunt, drink Bud heavies and chew Copenhagen all day everyday if he wanted.

He said last year he wasn't planning on playing for many more years. Wouldn't be too surprising if he just decided to hang the cleats up next year.

I was only half joking. I really wouldn't expect him to retire, but one year contracts allow him to walk away whenever he wants.

Agreed. If he doesn't perform this season it wouldn't be an absolute shock to see him retire.

Didn't he say that he doesn't enjoy baseball much anymore/made some comments that he isn't motivated to play the game? Maybe last season changed him
