G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted November 10, 2015 Posted November 10, 2015 Holy crap This surprises me greatly
EMK19 Verified Member Posted November 10, 2015 Posted November 10, 2015 He must be at a real bad place mentally right now... It seems so ever since the trade, with the way he's expressed sadness in leaving the Jays (and keeping up as if he was still one of us during playoffs, rare we see a traded player do that) and his discontent playing in Colorado. Not that it excuses any sort of domestic violence of course, but it just doesn't seem like something the Reyes we used to know would do.

The Cats Ass Old-Timey Member Posted November 10, 2015 Posted November 10, 2015 Looks like we traded him just in time.

BigCecil Old-Timey Member Posted November 10, 2015 Posted November 10, 2015 Allegations...I'm hoping they are not true. After the Kane story hoping people react a little less quickly to judging. Would be a very sad chapter in his life if they are. That behaviour is completely unacceptable.

"We used to know" - Did you know him personally? All I knew about him is that he likes to play baseball, smiles a lot, and enjoys the company of donkeys. Fans have no idea about what kind of person a player is "in real life".

And she went to the medical center with injuries. Are you saying she beat herself up?

Are you saying she beat herself up? It's an allegation. Best to wait until the investigation is complete. It's no different than Kane because people such as yourself immediately put the blame on the male victim.

True, fair enough, good point. I guess the fact that he's never been in this sort of an issue before thus far in his career plus his general well-natured demeanour that we've been used to seeing gave me the benefit of the doubt but you're right, as fans we can never tell how they really are in their life outside of baseball. Bigger point I wanted to make there was that he just seemed generally unhappy ever since the trade and with his game declining/future somewhat uncertain (he doesn't want to play in Colorado, but it'll be hard to find a team that'll take on his contract in a trade) wondering how much that may have played into his general mental state when this allegedly happened.
Cookie Verified Member Posted November 10, 2015 Posted November 10, 2015 Awful. I really hope he and his wife are getting the help that they need. I really gasped at this. Reyes is one of the last players I ever would have thought of in a situation like this.
Laika Community Moderator Posted November 10, 2015 Posted November 10, 2015 male victim. excuse me, but you are incredibly stupid

Mikeleelop Verified Member Posted November 10, 2015 Posted November 10, 2015 "good guy" Reyes maybe not the happy go lucky guy he appeared to be on camera....... shocker - sarcasm
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted November 10, 2015 Posted November 10, 2015 Okay, where do you think her injuries came from then... Rough sex! She probably asked for it! #victimshaming
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted November 10, 2015 Posted November 10, 2015 excuse me, but you are incredibly stupid Using victim seems to have been an accident. His general point is correct, though. Look at Bill Cosby, his life is ruined solely based on allegations.
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted November 10, 2015 Posted November 10, 2015 Rough sex! She probably asked for it! #victimshaming Hypothetical scenario, she hits him, grabs him or scratches him...or something. He reacts. Is he really a monster? May not have happened that way but until the facts are known, best not to put all your eggs in that basket.

Even black people have turned on him.
Laika Community Moderator Posted November 10, 2015 Posted November 10, 2015 Look at Bill Cosby, his life is ruined solely based on allegations. Ummm. Good?
HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted November 10, 2015 Posted November 10, 2015 Okay, where do you think her injuries came from then... Do you think it's out of the question that a woman would lie and fake her injuries in order to get a settlement or in spite of revenge for whatever reason? Do you think it is out of the question that perhaps the wife was the instigator? I'm not saying that's what is happening. I know jack s***, as does you.
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted November 10, 2015 Posted November 10, 2015 Totally plausible. Cosby, however, is definitely a serial rapist. Even black people have turned on him. His own wife says she knew about it most of the time and that she doesn't think he raped anyone. He might have actually done it but it's not like it will matter now since he's been declared guilty by everyone already.
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted November 10, 2015 Posted November 10, 2015 Ummm. Good? If you want to live in a world where guilt and innocence are judged via twitter, that's cool. Not where I'd prefer to go, though.

Not where I'd prefer to go, though. It's a good thing lawyers cross examine jurors. Otherwise we'd have a bunch of close-minded people who already made up their minds going in.

If it was one woman, I could suspend judgement.

magits Verified Member Posted November 10, 2015 Posted November 10, 2015 If you want to live in a world where guilt and innocence are judged via twitter, that's cool. Not where I'd prefer to go, though. How does Cosby's case have anything to do with Twitter lol. Chances are when you have that number of women coming out against you, you're probably going to be guilty (see jian ghomeshi) And the arguments that men have the right to defend themselves is stupid. There's an obvious power differential. If a mentally handicapped kid threw a punch at you is it acceptable to beat the s*** out of him?
Cookie Verified Member Posted November 10, 2015 Posted November 10, 2015 if the US didn't have such an absurd statute of limitations on rape there isn't a doubt that he'd be found guilty of rape.
magits Verified Member Posted November 10, 2015 Posted November 10, 2015 His own wife says she knew about it most of the time and that she doesn't think he raped anyone. Wow u should b a lawyer
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted November 10, 2015 Posted November 10, 2015 He's admitted to giving these women qualudes and having sex with them. If it was one woman, I could suspend judgement. Qualuudes are not exactly Roofies, and he offered it to them, they accepted. That is pretty slippery footing there. I recall one of my SJW friends posted this story on Facebook and myself and another guy kind of questioned things. We were immediately labelled rape apologists/enablers. There have been plenty of examples of rape hoax, too. If you don't know, look up Emma Sulkowicz who was basically allowed to destroy the life of a guy who was deemed innocent over and over. I just think we are getting away from questioning certain things in society and that is a scary place to go.
