Laika Community Moderator Posted November 9, 2015 Posted November 9, 2015 I'd prefer Justin Mourneau as a buy low option. Catching the ball is a relatively important part of first base. You have the wrong Alvarez as the buy low option. Hopefully Marlins Non-Tender Henderson. Morneau is the best target, for sure. Low cost and short term, still decent upside, tons of experience, an impeccable human, endlessly handsome, a marketing dream, gives Pompey Martin and Saunders someone else who speaks their language, and it would be reasonable to platoon him with Colabello.

Do you think he's still able to speak Canadian after all his years in 'Murica?
Nafro Verified Member Posted November 9, 2015 Posted November 9, 2015 (edited) Sorry Adam Lind's Mom, its looking like Adam may be looking for work. That or the White Sox or Twins. Maybe the White Sox. Not the White Sox, their eliminated. Lol Edited November 9, 2015 by Nafro

Swervin81 Verified Member Posted November 9, 2015 Posted November 9, 2015 The Twins already have a rapidly declining Mauer with an albatross contract they can't do anything with, Sano DHing, and Plouffe at 3B if they had ideas of Sano playing 3B regularly. Unless they move Mauer back to C or bench him entirely (which wouldn't be the wrong move but that contract, tho...), I don't see the fit.

Keeping him healthy was one thing when he had a monster bat, but he's replacement-level anywhere but C at this point.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted November 9, 2015 Posted November 9, 2015 Shapiro, bid for that black guy with great beard who destroyed Taiwan league (.381/.497/.790 with 47 HRs) Eric Thames

Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted November 9, 2015 Posted November 9, 2015 Didn't he have 20 stolen bases as well? Barry Bonds level 103 BB 91 K
dineke Old-Timey Member Posted November 9, 2015 Posted November 9, 2015 Barry Bonds level 103 BB 91 K Almost 1:1 K/BB that's skinny Barry Bonds level
glory Old-Timey Member Posted November 9, 2015 Posted November 9, 2015 Unless there's a clear upgrade available, I'd probably just roll with Smoak/Cola again. Thats going to be a dirt cheap platoon again and there's still enough upside there with Smoak to make it a worthwhile gamble. If you can add a win or two by getting another first baseman, then that's a different story.
CJ-Freeway Old-Timey Member Posted November 9, 2015 Posted November 9, 2015 Mlb.com has posted that Twins won the bid. So I guess it's official now.
CJ-Freeway Old-Timey Member Posted November 9, 2015 Posted November 9, 2015 Damn, I really wanted the Pirates to get him
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted November 9, 2015 Posted November 9, 2015 Said nobody. Ever. Dumb I've been thinking about Pedro Alvarez for a while... If he comes on a 1-2 year deal and strictly DHs, he could be valuable. He's a monster LH bat, and would be nice in the 5/6 spot. Would replace some power lost with the departure of EE/Jose.

He'd be a decent signing that could back up 1B, 3B, DH and he could probably learn from EE and Bautista but man those strikeout numbers are so ugly.

Monster bats, but produshonnn Evan Gattis = .217 ISO, 99 wRC+ Ryan Howard = .214 ISO, 92 wRC+ Jay Bruce = .209 ISO, 91 wRC+
L54 Old-Timey Member Posted November 9, 2015 Posted November 9, 2015 Plouffe to White Sox trade incoming.
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted November 9, 2015 Posted November 9, 2015 Plouffe to White Sox trade incoming. Moving Mauer back to C would make so much more sense.

Laika Community Moderator Posted November 9, 2015 Posted November 9, 2015 Alvarez is a better hitter than all of those guys. He hasn't been in his career. I guess you could make the argument that he projects better, for some reason. I mean he's obviously better than Howard going forward.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted November 9, 2015 Posted November 9, 2015 Alvarez is a better hitter than all of those guys. He has been Juan Francisco level so far

If he is going to DH you might as well sign Jaso who is the much better fit for the lineup. In a lineup with a ton of power already I'll take a high OBP guy over a high power guy.

I was saying there's no scenario where you'd bat Alvarez between Jose and EE...
