If not them then maybe the Athletics or Mariners.

BigBounceyBlueBalls Old-Timey Member Posted November 8, 2015 Posted November 8, 2015 TP for my Byung ho(le) !!! Lol
FrozenRopes Verified Member Posted November 9, 2015 Posted November 9, 2015 Sounds like Mariners or Pirates, at least on the radio.
L54 Old-Timey Member Posted November 9, 2015 Posted November 9, 2015 Mariners do make some sense. Moving Lomo may signal that they were confident in their bid. A large Asian population and a need at first base both exist.

They see marte/taylor manning SS, seek C, CF, SP, RP help

TBJ12 Verified Member Posted November 9, 2015 Posted November 9, 2015 Glad the Jays didn't win the bidding. Unless the numbers I looked at were wrong, Eric Thames had a better season than this guy. I'm happy to watch some other team conduct a $40M experiment.
Laika Community Moderator Posted November 9, 2015 Posted November 9, 2015 As a baseball fan, fingers crossed for Byung-Ho Coors. CarGo-Arenado-Dickerson-Park --> fireworks Reyes and Blackmon could steal 30 each, all four of those ^ dudes could hit 30+ each, and the Rockies would probably still lose 90 games.
Sorrow Verified Member Posted November 9, 2015 Posted November 9, 2015 I'm thinking Pittsburgh and we will see Alvarez let go.
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted November 9, 2015 Posted November 9, 2015 Byung Ho Park / Adam Lind platoon?
Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted November 9, 2015 Posted November 9, 2015 I think it will be Pittsburgh. Rockies might be out.
King Old-Timey Member Posted November 9, 2015 Posted November 9, 2015 Jon Heyman @JonHeymanCBS 22m22 minutes ago Though the a's did bid on byung-ho park, they did not have the winning bid. Marlins and dbacks also did not have top bid.

King Old-Timey Member Posted November 9, 2015 Posted November 9, 2015 Phillies, Brewers, Reds, Pirates, Cubs, White Sox, Twins and Astros. Teams left
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted November 9, 2015 Posted November 9, 2015 Alvarez would be a nice buy low option, power left handed bat between Bautista and Encarnacion.... Do not want. He's horrid defensively at 1st base. Smoak is the better option IMO
Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted November 9, 2015 Posted November 9, 2015 Phillies, Brewers, Reds, Pirates, Cubs, White Sox, Twins and Astros. Teams left I can't possibly imagine the Reds or Cubs being in on him.
admin Site Manager Posted November 9, 2015 Posted November 9, 2015 I can't possibly imagine the Reds or Cubs being in on him. Reds won the bid. They already have a deal set up with the Jays and Votto.
FrozenRopes Verified Member Posted November 9, 2015 Posted November 9, 2015 Reds won the bid. They already have a deal set up with the Jays and Votto. Haha, no thanks. We don't need more bats, we need someone to win 16 to 23 games each year for the next 6 years.
nextyear Verified Member Posted November 9, 2015 Posted November 9, 2015 From 1994 to 2014, we were 8th out of 30 teams in pitching WAR and 22nd out of 30 teams in position player WAR. Unsurprisingly, we were basically a .500 team that entire time. If anything, the past 20 years has shown that we didn't have enough hitting. I think I get your idea but what you stated is too general and does not correspond to the fact that the teams that win the AL and NL leagues are almost invariably one of the best 5 teams each year in limiting Runs Allowed; in fact during the years 1995 - 2015, the worst in the AL was the Boston Red Sox in 2013 who were 6th best in limiting RA. I went through the records of Blue Jays teams of the past 23 years and what is needed is a good balanced attack. The current Blue Jays, unlike some past teams, have more than enough offense to go with a good team defensively. Here is a compilation of runs scored (RS), runs allowed (RA) and team records for the past 23 seasons (excluding the strike-shortened 1994 season for which there was no World Series) - taken from this link http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/standings/index.jsp#20151004 Year RS RA Wins Losses 1992 780 682 96 66 1993 847 742 95 67 1994 strike-shortened season 1995 642 777 56 88 1996 766 809 74 88 1997 654 694 76 86 1998 816 768 88 74 1999 883 862 84 78 2000 861 908 83 79 2001 767 753 80 82 2002 813 828 78 84 2003 894 826 86 76 2004 719 823 67 94 2005 775 705 80 82 2006 809 754 87 75 2007 753 699 83 79 2008 714 610 86 76 2009 798 771 75 87 2010 755 728 85 77 2011 743 761 81 81 2012 716 784 73 89 2013 712 756 74 88 2014 723 686 83 79 2015 891 670 93 69

Heyward + Jo Jo Reyes >> Johnny Cueto or Zimm. You could improve a baseball team with more offensive player or more pitching.
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted November 9, 2015 Posted November 9, 2015 Alvarez would be a nice buy low option, power left handed bat between Bautista and Encarnacion.... Said nobody. Ever. Dumb
Atothe Old-Timey Member Posted November 9, 2015 Posted November 9, 2015 Said nobody. Ever. Dumb Actually that would amazing if he comes cheap to rebuild value
Laika Community Moderator Posted November 9, 2015 Posted November 9, 2015 Alvarez would be a nice buy low option, power left handed bat between Bautista and Encarnacion.... He might be better than Smoak as a platoon option with Colabello, but I certainly wouldn't hit him in the middle of the order. Maybe 6th
Nafro Verified Member Posted November 9, 2015 Posted November 9, 2015 Alvarez would be a nice buy low option, power left handed bat between Bautista and Encarnacion.... I'd prefer Justin Mourneau as a buy low option. Catching the ball is a relatively important part of first base. You have the wrong Alvarez as the buy low option. Hopefully Marlins Non-Tender Henderson.
