metafour Verified Member Posted November 2, 2015 Posted November 2, 2015 Lacava seems pretty nervous on camera. He doesn't strike me as a GM personality at all, which is probably why he declined the Orioles and why he's still kicking around in the same position.

He admitted in the interview he was happy with whatever role with the Blue Jays whether it be interim GM or AGM or whatever.
Slade Old-Timey Member Posted November 2, 2015 Posted November 2, 2015 That brief interview with LaCava certainly didn't seem like he wanted that GM job, he seemed like he likes to be the behind the scene guy.

He did turn down the Orioles job a while back. But I believe that was due more to Orioles ownership than him not wanting to be a GM.

Here's the original story http://www.cbssports.com/mcc/blogs/entry/22297882/33074876 Also he interviewed with the Angels but he had stated that was more of a backup in case AA doesn't resign
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted November 2, 2015 Posted November 2, 2015 Sounds like Lacava has been pretty much told he won't be seriously considered for the permanent GM role and that he will still be AGM with the Jays after a new GM is hired. Also sounds like that is 100% fine with him and he wants to be with the Blue Jays no matter what role he is in.
204Jays Verified Member Posted November 3, 2015 Posted November 3, 2015 IMO, Lacava is someone you want to keep in the org as a buffer - knows everyone, good with people, etc - but as a GM you want some forward thinking, effective communicator, leader. No disrespect to the man, but he comes off as old school.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted November 3, 2015 Posted November 3, 2015 There's nothing else they can do for now. Lacava was the only short term option. Too much immediate work to do that requires someone with knowledge of the organization

Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted November 3, 2015 Posted November 3, 2015 Likely GM for the Jays will be Falvey, Atkins and Tinnish in that order.
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted November 3, 2015 Posted November 3, 2015 I'd be surprised if Tinnish got it. I don't think Shapiro wants a guy with a scouting background.

burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted November 3, 2015 Posted November 3, 2015 Tinnish is smart though There are tons of smart people in a FO lol. No point in hiring Tinnish as GM either when you can leave him as AGM and hire a better person from somewhere outside of the org.

THANOS Old-Timey Member Posted November 4, 2015 Posted November 4, 2015 Is Atkins the top personal choice for most here?
Laika Community Moderator Posted November 4, 2015 Posted November 4, 2015 Is Atkins the top personal choice for most here? It's irrelevant because literally nobody here has any f***ing clue who would be good
ChuckNorrisHero Verified Member Posted November 4, 2015 Posted November 4, 2015 I think Mike Girsch would be my ideal choice for GM, but I seriously doubt he'll be the one. My guess is that Shapiro brings someone in he can control as it looks like he wants to be calling the shots

Are people having this perception from AA leaving speculating that there would be a conflict of interest who calls the shots?
King Old-Timey Member Posted November 10, 2015 Author Posted November 10, 2015 Ken Rosenthal @Ken_Rosenthal 18s19 seconds ago Sources: #BlueJays have signed interim GM LaCava to long-term deal. Will apply whether or not he is named permanent GM.
Brenner Verified Member Posted November 11, 2015 Posted November 11, 2015 Sounds like GM by committee and LaCava is now guaranteed to be part of that committee.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted November 11, 2015 Posted November 11, 2015 Great little article about GM's being glorified assistants. http://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/mlb/2015/11/10/general-manager-diminished-role-alex-anthopoulos/75547556/ Must say my favourite quote was Anthopoulos wanted to stay old-school. And lost to the new era.
nmrch Verified Member Posted November 11, 2015 Posted November 11, 2015 If Shapiro really does intend on taking on the traditional duties of a GM then i would be pretty happy. He is far too talented to be wasted in the role of liason between the baseball people and the Rogers which is basically what Beeston supposedly did.

You forget he is also the president of business operations. That means renovating RC, finding a ST facility etc.. Those are very important projects for the long term success of the Blue Jays.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted November 12, 2015 Posted November 12, 2015 I wonder if Shapiro would be looking into O'Dowd from MLB Network as a candidate, he gave Shapiro his chance back when he started? He's into analytics from what I've gathered from the network.
