Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted November 2, 2015 Posted November 2, 2015 Jamie asking very good questions.
aselvana Verified Member Posted November 2, 2015 Posted November 2, 2015 Wish someone asked a question about the team's Spring Training facility. heres his response Shapiro:Well, its my first day here, so, Hahaha. First I have to catch up with the necessary people, before assessing the priorities of team and the organization. We would definitely look at logistics, analysis the risk involved, and address the issue at the correct time.
CJ-Freeway Old-Timey Member Posted November 2, 2015 Posted November 2, 2015 My larger point was that there was no reason to bring up Donaldson. That was just Ang trolling. Damn, he got me.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted November 2, 2015 Posted November 2, 2015 Hey a ST question! Gave a pretty general answer nonetheless.
Governator Community Moderator Posted November 2, 2015 Posted November 2, 2015 He should just shave it off really.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted November 2, 2015 Posted November 2, 2015 He didn't say that did he? Said its about the process that is in place so that that he doesn't really need to sign off on every move as the information will all be in place to make the decision.

He did say Dunedin had to put up or get out and he also said that he wants the players on the best facility possible. Unlike Beest, he has no ties to Dunedin. If I'm a betting man, I'd guess it's over and frankly after last season's debacle, good riddance.
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted November 2, 2015 Posted November 2, 2015 Blair dropping an Erik Wedge reference.
The Analog Kid Verified Member Posted November 2, 2015 Posted November 2, 2015 He didn't say that did he? I was paraphrasing one of his responses but that's how I interpreted it. Which makes sense if a GM were to proposes some outlandish trade or signing but possibly what drove AA away. It was just asked again in the sportsnet interview and he skirted the answer. If the GM had the ultimate decision (somebody has to), why wouldn't he just say so? Either way I'm not sure we learned much about him today other than Gibson is staying for now (ugh) and he won't restrict himself to 5 year contracts (good news). He mostly spoke in generalities and cliches. Maybe McCowan will do better than the "reporters" did today.

Building a state of the art facility would help the organization tremendously.
L54 Old-Timey Member Posted November 2, 2015 Posted November 2, 2015 I really hope ST gets moved to AZ.
L54 Old-Timey Member Posted November 2, 2015 Posted November 2, 2015 Really enjoyed listening to Shapiro. At least he added some substance to his answers unlike Alex. Pretty excited for this upcoming offseason!
RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted November 2, 2015 Posted November 2, 2015 It's hard not to love Shapiro instantly
ProfessionalAtBat Verified Member Posted November 2, 2015 Posted November 2, 2015 Shapiro is a stud Could care less about AA ego at this point
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted November 2, 2015 Posted November 2, 2015 I really hope ST gets moved to AZ. It'd be so weird since all you really know is the Florida teams. By all accounts the Arizona League is the much better one since all the facilities are much closer. Florida might be the easier one logistically since its closer to Toronto and they already have ties there.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted November 2, 2015 Posted November 2, 2015 I think this is the first time seeing Lacava talk.

I love Phoenix itself- played baseball for a summer there, have friends there, facilities are fantastic, no rain, easily accessible for me to fly there. NYM looking to partner on a ST facility fap.
L54 Old-Timey Member Posted November 2, 2015 Posted November 2, 2015 Lacava- "I'm a Blue Jay" That's awesome.
L54 Old-Timey Member Posted November 2, 2015 Posted November 2, 2015 AA's in better shape than 99% of you pigs. +1 Great third post.
BTS Community Moderator Posted November 2, 2015 Posted November 2, 2015 AA's in better shape than 99% of you pigs. AA is obese.

Given the amount of snowbirds in Florida, it just makes sense to keep tapping into that market. The proximity thing in Arizona is cool but really all that's needed is a facility that doesn't suck and you should be able to get that in Florida but probably not in Dunedin.
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted November 2, 2015 Posted November 2, 2015 It was interesting that LaCava kept saying how happy AA is. I'm kind of wondering if it was a family decision for AA due to the excessive hours etc, rather than any other factor.

There are a tons of Canadian snowbirds who take in the winters in Phoenix though too.

How would this work? I mean if there was a massive piece of land where you could build 2 separate facilities I would be on board but when each team has to build a Major league and minor league facility is there enough space for 2 clubs? I don't want to share a facility with a team, rather just spend the extra money to get a state of the art facility by itself.
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted November 2, 2015 Posted November 2, 2015 There are a tons of Canadian snowbirds who take in the winters in Phoenix though too. Wasn't aware of that but I guess it makes sense for Canadians on the West Coast.
L54 Old-Timey Member Posted November 2, 2015 Posted November 2, 2015 Wasn't aware of that but I guess it makes sense for Canadians on the West Coast. Yup. I think both places are full with retired Canadians come winter time.

At the same time I think its clear Shapiro will build the facility for where is best for the Blue Jays franchise, not Blue Jays fans.

Mariners/Padres, Rangers/Royals, Diamondbacks/Rockies off the top of my head. I've never been to these parks during ST so I don't know exactly how it works though. Mets are in Florida though, so I assume if they partnered both would be staying there.
agrushcow Verified Member Posted November 2, 2015 Posted November 2, 2015 There's no way we're moving to Phoenix. It would be within Florida (and I'm from Vancouver, and the trip to Phoenix would definitely be easier since I go annually). Only team in the Grapefruit league not from the Central or the East is the Astros, who obviously moved from the Central. Same with the Cactus league. Hopefully they move them down the east coast.
