Jon Paul Morosi is saying his sources told him Shapiro initially offered AA a 2 year deal. Which offended him (speculation)

If it's true AA needs to grow a set. Contract negotiations are just that, back and forth bargaining. Nothing wrong with Shapiro trying to get the best deal for the Jays. AA left us, it's all on him... f*** him.

Just to add to your comment...

Apparently Shapiro himself offered Alex a 2 year deal.

AA was not happy with the short term offer for obvious reasons and predictably rejected it, it was then Rogers who stepped in and offered AA the 5 year deal.

In the press releases by Rogers and the Jays they have only mentioned the 5 year deal and conveniently left out the original 2 year deal.

I can understand how AA was worried about the 2 year offer by Shapiro...basically a sign that Shapiro didn't have complete faith in him. The offer meant that AA had something to prove to Shapiro over the 2 years. AA in his own mind believed he didn't have to prove anything after the season he just had.

Also...It's interesting that Rogers stepped in over Shapiro and made the 5 year offer. That's an interesting start to that relationship.

Why would they mention every offer, their last offer was a 5 year deal with opt out after 1 and AA rejected and that's what they've said.

Why?

Sometimes, especially when you're in win now mode, this could be the best way to improve your team. Let's say one year some team has very good players at most of their positions, making it very difficult to upgrade their offense/defense. Also let's assume they have what will likely be a very good bullpen, but their starting pitching is absolutely awful. If the market for starting pitching is poor (but there are a couple very good FAs) and they can't strike a reasonable trade to upgrade, why not attempt to spend big dollars to put the team into contention?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but it seems like you guys implicitly assume that you can upgrade your roster by 1 win for 10 million dollars when it is of course a lot more complicated than that. The market doesn't have infinite players. Sometimes it might make sense to expect a loss in the future just like the deadline trades this year, I'm sure most people on this forum would agree.

Everyone's reporting this now. Ed Rogers made the final offer of 5 years with the opt out after 1. All Toronto beat writers, Simmons/Lott/Elliott/ etc, etc, etc, lol.

Time to move on.

That was fun, not much entails but, he definitely uses "that is a great question" a lot, like someone said, it might be his "balls are in the air" go to phrase, lol.

Usually when people say that its because it buys them time to think of answer to the question lol.

Guys, Mark Shapiro is the president of the Toronto Blue Jays. This is incredible.

To think he's come all this way when 14 years ago he was discussing trades for Ricardo Rincon in person with Billy Beane!!

-No snapshot emotional decisions.

-Tiptoes around "Is this team sustainable?"

-2016 is the time to win

Brad Fay compares him to Bryan Colangelo. I don't know who Brad Fay is. Seems like a good thing.

They pulled Brad Fay out of dry dock? I thought he was on assignment in Siberia.

Tony LaCava coming up. Really does not sound like he thinks he's gonna be the GM lol

Maybe Shapiro hires O'Dowd. It's possible, he hired Shapiro.

"I'm a Blue Jay. I want to be here. Right now, we'll collaborate." When asked on what being interim GM means long term.

Guy does not want to be GM, lol.
