Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted October 30, 2015 Posted October 30, 2015 Not a fan of that decision. Why can't he do both? Guys like Carrasco and Kluber have good groundball rates and high K rates. It doesn't have to be a decision necessarily. Striking out 7.5/9 with a good walk rate and an elite groundball rate is just fine. Just look at Sonny Gray.
Frenchsoup Verified Member Posted October 30, 2015 Posted October 30, 2015 Are also Cy Young contenders next season lol. Stroman is great but not on that level. Be warned, Stroman is a FIP beater.
CJ-Freeway Old-Timey Member Posted October 30, 2015 Posted October 30, 2015 Matt Williams is awful, and FWIW, didn't seem at all respected by his own players. Thanks, I didn't know that. I was trying to follow the NL (especially the Nats) but I've been too busy so following the Jays/AL was enough for me lol.

THANOS Old-Timey Member Posted October 30, 2015 Posted October 30, 2015 Are also Cy Young contenders next season lol. Stroman is great but not on that level. I could list more. I think it's a philosophical development direction, I'm curious to see what Stro's GB rates were in the minors, as I doubt they were that bad.
Frenchsoup Verified Member Posted October 30, 2015 Posted October 30, 2015 troll post? Based on what? HDMH? Good fielder, has the fastball/change combo for weak contact. 4-5 plus pitches. Give the guy a full spring training and he should come out on fire next year.

Like, dafuq? Is the Walgreens dugout the size of a f***ing football field or something?

He does have a nice arsenal for weak contact, but when you read that someone is comparing him to Carrasco/Kluber in terms of K-rate and GB % you laugh a bit. Stroman doesn't strike me as a guy who could ever be around 10 k/9 as a starter. As much as I love him I think he's going to be a very good #2 starter but not an ace like the guys mentioned.

But that's exactly what he was before his call-up, not exactly a small sample size (170 innings is a full MLB season). Even Carrasco had poor peripherals and only 6 K/9 up until 2014. It was obviously a philosophical change to his developmental direction. http://i.snag.gy/NJrGr.jpg

CJ-Freeway Old-Timey Member Posted October 30, 2015 Posted October 30, 2015 He also got completely disrespected by Max Scherzer on multiple occasions. Really? What did Scherzer say?
THANOS Old-Timey Member Posted October 30, 2015 Posted October 30, 2015 Carrasco also added 3 MPH to his fastball so thats pretty misleading. When? In 2014? Most of his strikeouts come from perfecting his slider and curve anyway. Nvm: found it. It was 2013, which was still a poor peripheral year (5.79 K/9 that year and a 4.33 xFIP). http://i.snag.gy/ZussS.jpg
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted October 30, 2015 Posted October 30, 2015 Really? What did Scherzer say? When Williams goes to the mound to pull Scherzer "f*** you, i'm not coming out" Williams turns around and walks back to the dugout
Trouba95 Old-Timey Member Posted October 30, 2015 Posted October 30, 2015 How old is GD? Anybody? My spidey senses tell me between 12-18.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted October 30, 2015 Posted October 30, 2015 What about Matt Williams? Haven't been following the NL for a while though, so I'm not sure if he's any good. Not sure if serious?
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted October 30, 2015 Posted October 30, 2015 How old is GD? Anybody? My spidey senses tell me between 12-18. Does it matter, he's a lot more mature than you?
flafson Verified Member Posted October 30, 2015 Posted October 30, 2015 When Williams goes to the mound to pull Scherzer "f*** you, i'm not coming out" Williams turns around and walks back to the dugout Was more like "get the f*** out!" And he repeated that about 3-4 times until Williams left.

Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted October 30, 2015 Posted October 30, 2015 Hire a young sabermetrics protege and go get Dave Martinez as manager and I will be thrilled.

I always picture a high school freshman, who tries so hard to impress the seniors, by saying the same things they do. It's amusing... but yeah, he's "mature" and stuff.
